Manti Te'o's girlfriend who died... (2 Viewers)

Interesting story. No reason to doubt the kid after hearing Schaap discussing their interview. At least he found out while in college and not getting his bank account emptied by this hoax in the NFL.

After reading more - I think he was embarrassed by meeting her online and not really knowing "her". He said he lied to his parents, hence their confusion. I think he was just too embarrassed by the whole thing when things started panning out that he had no idea what to do. I think he may have played up some things or maybe thought them in his mind but I don't think was part of an elaborate hoax
No Skype? No stop to visit when she's dying and he's on Spring Break?
...
Te'o told ESPN he tried to speak with Kekua via Skype and Facetime, but person at other end of the line was in a "black box" and wasn't seen
That doesn't make sense. That doesn't raise red flags for the guy? He's going to continue dating the black box when he has a line of co-eds beating down his door? His story rests on him being the biggest rube on the planet. I think at this point that's worse than him trying to gin up some Heisman hype.Phone records clear all of this up. Maybe those are the "facts" that have been alluded to.

Dude was either biggest idiot ever...and then continued the lie...to try to save face.Or gay and killed her off before people dug too deeply to find out she was made up.
So he's going with my first option...what took him so long to come up with that?

There's not?
If you wish to continue discussing it, feel free. :shrug:He answered all of the questions Schaap asked and what people wanted to know. It was an interesting story while it lasted.

They also said he started dating someone else betwean the time she "died" and when he found out it was a hoax. Yeah sounds like he was pretty torn up about her death.

After reading 10 long-winded blog posts about the Ashley York saga, I don't know anymore. People seem really willing to shut off their brain and believe anything.

Freaking awesome and worth the read.
The guy that wrote it was walking this line between sober analysis and jilted lover. You could tell his head was still in the clouds.Granted it was a convoluted mess to unravel, but he brought 99% of that upon himself.

I still don't understand how he supposedly talked to her for months and yet he never asked to meet "her" or facetime/webcam with "her". Why didn't the ESPN reporter ask him this? Seems like an obvious thing to ask.

Maybe it's because I don't follow college ball and I didn't know about the stories, but I don't see the big deal. Yes, lying is bad and makes everything you do afterwards questionable but I have no idea why this story is so huge.I don't know much details, but isn't Te'o basically claiming he was "catfished" by his friend, but that doesn't make sense because Te'o allegedly "talked on the phone" to the girl for hours everyday while she was on her death bed? Am I correct? The only logical explanation I can think of is Te'o being a closeted gay, as I mentioned in the other thread. Think about it, there's an estimated 3% of NFL players who are homosexual but NONE of them are out to the public. It's crazy how the athletes will own up to being womanizers, cheaters, alcoholics, druggies, murderers, etc but they wouldn't dare admit to being gay. Crazy how society is, but that's another thread.Like I said, I don't know much about this kid but I hope this won't affect his NFL career too much. As a gay man I can completely understand why he would make up a girlfriend, but why not just say you guys broke up instead of dying? That's what I did..lol.Has he spoken publicly about this yet?

Idiot broad on my FB friends list started a thread about this yesterday .... was basically her and some freakin' house frau heifer friend of hers .... anyways, after 10 or so exchanges, house frau lets on that "there are gay rumors floating around" .... Idiot girl's response?

"no way is this guy gay ... HE'S A FOOTBALL PLAYER!!!1!!!1!! THEY CAN GET ANY GIRL THEY WANT"

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Still having a hard time thinking Manti is this gullible and dumb, now I doubt he is all that bright but struggling to think he is at an Otis level.

It's interesting that the original espn story about this interview said somebody claiming to be Lannay was in the hotel lobby the night of the NCG but that part was edited out without any explanation.

So, he met with his advisors for the last 2 days after this story broke, gave an interview off-camera, and now suddenly had answers for all the inconsistencies in his story?I'm not buying it, his word means nothing to me.

I still can't believe anyone would buy his malarkey.
Agreed. On my other board, a guy who is a huge ND fan, didn't say anything about this the first few days. Now, after the interview, he is 100% behind Te'o  I honestly don't know what to believe, whether he was duped in the beginning and then kept it going for the attention or embarrassment, or whether he was in on it from the beginning, don't really care anymore. He will never be free from this, it will haunt him for the rest of his life.

I wouldnt call him the biggest rube on the planet, seems like tons of people have fallen for similar type stuff. Definitely naive, dumb, etc

I'm sure he'll really care about your feelings when he collects his huge payday shortly and has women throwing themselves at him.

Teo is so full of it. I can't believe some of you actually believe him. He's making up silly story after silly story I cover up. Now he lied to his dad! Of course he did! How convenient!

Big ND fan here...Not really sure where all of the gay rumors are coming from. Te'o is a devout LDS member. They don't typically date outside of the faith. So that he ignored the "lines of coeds" outside his door to explore this "relationship" isn't exactly crazy as it may seem. How many LDS do you think go to a Catholic school with 8000 students enrolled?I have a hard time fully believing Te'o. I think he's likely a naive kid who got caught up in something embarassing and lied to keep it up and save face, hoping it'd never become public. I have a hard time believing it's a lot more than that, especially with ND doing their own investigation and supporting the guy. This is the school who's blacklisted players for being caught with weed and sleeping around. At bare minimum, right or wrong, they believe him or they wouldn't be this soft on him and standing by him.

I think I've got this whole Manti Teo thing sorted out. He was dating a woman he thought he met but she didn't really exist so he never met anybody. Things were going really good in the relationship for awhile, after all it's hard to argue and fight with someone that you never met and isn't even real. Then she got sick which made him sad. He never went to visit her because in make believe world no one ever dies. Then it happened, she passed away. This is where the train derailed. How could she die when she never lived? Even the best fiction writers couldn't have foreseen this, or so we thought. Christmas came and went and Lennay was back, now she's alive again. What to do now? Gotta account for the past few months and explain why she faked her death (when death wasn't even possible.) Was she hiding from someone? How could such a wholesome LB from Notre Dame end up with someone that has trouble with the law or even worse? Then it all started to make sense.... it was just a dream.

This story needs to just go away. I am sick of going to every channel and this is the news AND sports update.

Has anyone bothered to ask who the girl was on the other end of the phone? Was it just the Tuiososopo guy doing a high voice?

He went way farther down the rabbit hole than I would have. Then again, at the time I was profitably single and lots of baskets for my eggs, so maybe that's easy for me to say. I would imagine that for a guy who is single and lonely at a point in his life with less options, it would be easier to put a lot more effort into it and get dragged further in. But I definitely began calling her out early on.That said, when a girl invests THAT much effort into something like this, I have a harder time blaming the guy for stupidity. I mean, what's the upside in this for the woman, and when she starts calling, and has am active Facebook profile complete with pictures, descriptions of daily events, and -- the real kicker -- accounts of apparent siblings and friends posting on her Facebook wall -- at some point it just seems like it would be way too much effort to be a hoax. And yet, people out there do it. I still don't see the upside, and there's no money in it, but these are people who I assume are in need of some emotional fix and so they've got tons of motivation. It's one thing when you get suckered into a nigerian scam when there's a money payoff; this one is harder to see/understand.It's a crazy world out there.

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/8859077/manti-teo-notre-dame-fighting-irish-denies-being-part-hoax-late-girlfriendSo he shows this DM history in the picture from 1/16, this week between Te'o and Lennay. But wasn't it proven/shown this week that the person behind the old Lennay twitter account doesn't run the twitter anymore and it was reregistered by someone else this week?http://www.sbnation.com/college-football/2013/1/17/3885600/lennaykay-twitter-manti-teoSo maybe it is possible that this account sent this DM and deactivated the account on 1/16 and the same day someone else reregistered and scooped up the account???

Some guys prefer the black box. Bill Maher and Roger Ebert come to mind.

Even in best case scenario he's still a real piece of work:

He never made an attempt to visit her in the hospital."It never really crossed my mind. I don't know. I was in school," he told ESPN.
Not to mention that even if he was hoaxed he still manipulated the media with fake stories about the love he had for his girlfriend in order to better his Heisman chances.

Idiot broad on my FB friends list started a thread about this yesterday .... was basically her and some freakin' house frau heifer friend of hers .... anyways, after 10 or so exchanges, house frau lets on that "there are gay rumors floating around" .... Idiot girl's response?

Yes, the MoP theory of guys becoming gay after they get rejected by women.

On a recent PTI Wilbon said that when he met Te'o he was struck by how childlike Te'o seemed. Almost innocent and naive. Maybe Te'o's boys knew this about him and catfished him specifically because they knew he would fall for it and it would be hysterical. Sounds like something I'd do in college and share it with the other guys so we could all have a laugh at our naive friend's expense.

That's bizarre. The Deadspin article says that the @LennayKay screen name was deactivated in September 2012 (and changed to @LoveMSMK).
