Marc Bulger vs San Francisco (FBG rankings) (1 Viewer)

I noticed Siggy Bloom had Bulger ranked rather low circa 14 or 15, which I don't agree/disagree... but I'm thinking there is some merit to that on a number of fronts but mainly the shifting around of STL offensive lines. last time we saw some of this personnel, Bulger was pretty sore on Monday. Also the SF secondary/defense. Fitz AND Boldin... come on, those guys were shut down, and their certinaly wasn't this all-world pass rush, and it's not like the Arizona running game was shut down.

Curious if anyone is worried and/or benching him this week (vs SF of all teams) in lieu of another QB (not named Manning, Palmer, Brady, McNabb, Brees, etc...), but someone down the list like

Dodds/Norton have Bulger at 7

Bloom at 15

Another fantasy service (nameless) doesn't even have Bulger listed (they only do the Top 20)...

Interesting. I had over managing my team, but does Bulger need to win a spot back on the starting roster of squads? The Niners ppl...

Hasn't Bulger had pretty much subpar performances against SF during the last few meetings? Maybe that coupled with the offensive line needing to readjust, is why he is ranked lower.

Yes, Bulger was poor against the Niners last year, even in the dome, and this year's Niner D seems like it's better (almost has to be).

I personally am benching Bulger for Kitna.

The Niners defense is strong this year. Nate Clements bothered Boldin all night. Leinart tried to pick on pro-bowler Walt Harris, but got intercepted by him. The secondary held Boldin and Fitz to 42 receiving yards combined.

I have Bulger and I am confident that he will do well in the upcoming weeks. Heres why:After week 1 they will really start to try to establish the run first in games. I think that with SJ back there they have a good chance of succeeding (he was the #2 guy in most leagues a week ago). This in turn will open up the passing game. Sure there is questions with the line but they will increase the quick hitting passes as well as increasing SJ's activity even more by getting him the ball in the flat. I think you will see a decrease in the deep strike attempts but I think because they are limited they will be more successful. His game will really come down to SJ's game.I feel confident still and will wait to bring in Schwaab..................exactly what choice do I have at this point.

The Niners definitely played well but Bulger is light years better than Leinart. That said, I agree he's very risky this week and I wouldn't start him if I had a better option.

All valid points. add to that the loss of Pace and SF's pressure D (did I just ype that?) and I think it could be tough going for Bulger.having said that, Bulger>>>>>>>>>>>>>Leinart, who looked just awful Monday night.

the 2005 stat is one game, and a huge game it was, but the 2006 stats were 2 games, and he played pretty subpar in those two. 49ers defense is much better this year and the Rams look to be having some problems on offense, I'm benching Bulger for Roethlisberger this weekend...

You guys have hit on a lot of my doubts about Bulger this week - new line chemistry (I thought they actually looked decent with Goldberg in, I'm not as sure about Barron), SF getting good pressure and really settling into Nolan's attack defense. I would definitely start Kitna and Roethlisberger over him, and probably Favre.

Also in terms of NFL savvy Holt/Bruce>>>>Fitz/Boldin. A lot of that SF D is young and StL's wr/qb trio ought to be able to do a little more brainstorming than the youth of AZ did. Also, I don't recall Egge or other RBs getting too many looks and we all know what kind of success they had throwing to SJ last year. As for the line, they played pretty well without Pace last year so that's not too bothersome either. I nkow that SF's D looked good, but it was against AZ and although they've improved, AZ<<<<StL. I think veteranship will keep Bulger as a very viable option this weekend. I am starting him without fear, although I really have no other options. But there are few others I would insert over Bulger anyways. IMO, Bulger is pretty much not a "matchup decision". I sat him last year against the Bears and lost because of it (400 yds I think?), so no way am I sitting him against the SF D!

The Niners D is not young at all. Smith, Young, Clements, Harris, Lewis and Roman are all veterans. Young linebackers Willis and Lawson looked awesome, so that's not a drawback at all.The Rams are 1-3 against SF the last two years, and 2-2 against Arizona the last two years. That's not exactly STL>>>>>>AZ,SF.

As for the records, divisional games are a toss up. Sf swept Seattle last year who won the division. Seattle got swept by the Rams a few years ago and Seattle won the division. I don't think you'd find anyone who claims that the Cards or Niners were better than the Rams over the last few years. Wins and losses don't affect stats.I didn't say the entire SF D is young, maybe "a lot" isn't quite accurate. Willis and Lawson looked great against the Cards, not the same as looking great against SJ, Bulger, Holt and Bruce. And regardless of how good you play in your first game, there are youthful mistakes to be made and all the vets on the Rams are more equipped than the youngsters on the Cards to take advantage of that.

I have zero worries playing Bulger this weekend.
