Marking it down: RG 3 a good scheme fit for Kelly/Eagles. (1 Viewer)

I'm sure Kelly is looking for a great locker room guy like RG3. Why would anyone bring in that kind of toxicity this late in camp?

Sam Bradford is going to get paid. Why would Griffin go to a place where he has zero chance of starting for the next five years?

Terrible scheme fit.

Kelly's system calls for guys to read defense and make the appropriate read quickly with little to no ad-libbing.

When passing, must be able to hit appropriate receiver quickly and not hold on to ball too long.

After play, be able to get team up to line quickly for next play.

None of that sounds like RG3.

There's no good fit for a guy who is so broken that he can't recover his own fumble without getting injured. The guy is made of glass. And not football-smart enough to convert to a pocket passer. He's done.

This. RGIII needs to go to a team that will work to his strengths, while developing him in long term. Shanahan did a good job of adapting his playbook to RGIII, and not forcing RGIII to immediately play from the pocket, diagnose defenses, or go through progressions. On the other hand, Gruden seems determined to fit a square peg in a round hole. This was actually discussed in detail on Mike & Mike this morning for anybody who wants to go back and listen.

I don't see him being able to step into the Eagles offense. He has never shown ability to make quick reads or go through progressions. I just don't see it.

No. For the 1000th time. He's a KR/PR/Specialist who just so happens to be able to throw the ball 70 yards.

Even if he was developed (prior to the NFL) he would still have pencil thin legs and lack coordination.

I don't think it's a direct fit but it's the only thing, in my opinion, that's even close to a fit.
Zone read options for running. Deep Ins for passing (. He has the arm)Negatives: Big ego

Salary prohibitive this year

Health

Shattered confidence

Lack of football IQ

Lots of negatives for sure but I think if he were to fit on a team he could come in next year after getting cut, play for a low salary, learn the scheme, and be a backup.

My biggest fear for his career is the inability to do any of the three. Sure he can learn the playbook and the plays, but the overall grasp of the offensive scheme including where protection should be shifted for different defensive fronts is something I don't think he'll ever get.

Griffin is about the absolute worst scheme fit for Kelly that you could find. You almost couldn't find one worse if you tried. First of all, even taking into consideration that Kelly does not "need" a running QB as many casual fans think he does, Griffin's running ability is shot anyways. He was never quick or agile, he was just fast in a straight line and it got him absolutely killed.

The other thing that got him killed? Bad footwork, hesitation in the pocket, inability to quickly find the open man, and absolute lack of pocket awareness. Coincidentally, those are all things Chip Kelly prizes in his QB's. Fast, efficient decision makers with accuracy.

Griffin is the opposite of what Kelly wants.

Not that i think it's going to happen but the same can be said about Tebow.

He would make an awful returner, though. He's a straight line speedster with zero shiftiness or quicks, and zero ability to mitigate a hit.

If Tebow makes the roster, it would be as basically a specialist, not as a "traditional" backup QB.

Who cares about scheme. Griffin doesn't listen to coaches, and Kelly cuts or trades you if you don't pee in a cup exactly the way he wants you to.

??? What happened is Sam Bradford injured already? Why are the Eagles even looking for another QB if they "found their guy" in Bradford.

i don't get it.

Agree he's the opposite of what kelly want in a qb.

Aside from all that, has anyone ever seen a more awkward open field runner? Literally Brady and manning are more shifty and have more moves at age 67. Anytime I seen rg3 actually try a juke I always remember and laugh while remembering chad Penningtons triple juke from years ago (except it worked).

Can make the throws. Mobile. Zone read experience.

I agree the big negative is the attitude but he should get a big slice of humble pie this year getting splinters in his butt.

A reclamation project if you will.

Kelly has done a great job in getting rid of locker room cancers like Jackson and McCoy. Why would he bring in Griffin who is despised by his own team?

I think he could potentially succeed in the Chan Gailey offense (provided he stayed healthy), where even Ryan Fitzpatrick and Tyler Thigpen had some success. Not that I think it's going to happen...

Sure he could. He could possibly be a shadow of Cam in that offense as well if he would be able to stay healthy.

RG3 as a rookie was the "Wildcat" effect. Not much film on the scheme yet and not yet planned for. Once film was available on him, he's been hogwash.
