So if they don't pay their maids what is the excuse for how ridiculously expensive hotels are these days?

I don't consider myself cheap but the expense of hotels seems to be one of the things that is outrageously expensive in relation to what you get.

And they pay their employees crap wages to boot.

Surely the automatic waffle makers don't cost that much. The ones that beep a thousand times when the kids baseball team is loud and trashing the place and you just want a reason not to hang your self in the closet like David Carradine.

I don't know about at Marriott, but the article I linked said they make an average of 10.17/hr nationwide.

ETA I believe that puts them a bit above the average wait staff wage nationwide since I saw in the tipping thread that was $9.97

I always tip $5 per day and hand write a little "thank you" note. But I'm cool that way.
