Actually I've come to realize that this doesn't matter. What you need is one team of 4* 3/30s and a pile of units to recharge it. That's how most everyone is approaching the 4* arena.

If you wait to have enough 3/4* champs to compete it will never happen. Even the players with every 4* in the game are still using units on recharges.

This is why I don't even bother playing the 4* arena. Although I probably will now just to 200k points for the shards.

I play 4* for the milestones, and now the rank stuff, too. I have no delusions of ever placing high enough to get the good stuff.

 
That 200k milestone isn't very hard to reach. I'm only playing once every 2 hours with my top team. Need to try to do at least that for every 4* arena.

 
I have a roster of 9 teams, where i can use 8 teams (4* or 3* to rank 4). With these 8 teams i can play in the endless streak. These 8 teams give me about 100k point each round i play. With this i can easily get to 2mil points, without spending units.

To be able get more points, I need more teams which i can play every x hours, and then i could use units to recharge my top team while the rest is being recharged. This would save an enormous amount of crystals during the 3 days.

I'm not going to spend 1000's of units to recharge a single team to get a 4* which is only worth 2500 units, doesn't make sense to me :)

And if i would not get the 4*, then i wouldn't have wasted a pile of units ;)

The difficulty ramp is tough for me... I just ran my top team ( 2 3/30 4*, 1 4/40 3* ) at win streak 8 or 9 and faced 3 3500-4000 champs. Red special'd from near full health to dead in 2 of 3 matches.

I run about 75-80k / streak. Hitting 200k is easy, but I want to get a few milestones. I can reasonably get the 600k, but 1 million is more time than I'm willing to spend as my teams stand now.

I need to get better at that. I'm typically all offense, so they get red quickly.

I agree, and in both these cases I was one or two hits away from winning the fight. There is very little room for error, though.

** note ** I make a lot of errors while fighting.

 
You got to trigger them to throw a green or yellow special at you. When they have a special, i hit them once while they are blocking, and then get back. Just keep repeating. Sometimes you're screwed and it doesn't work. Then when they have red special charged, go at them full force.

This basically where I am at. With the limited time I have to grind, I run the 4* about 6-7 times in 3 days and finish around 600k. Milestones are much much nicer and until recently I would also place around 9k or so for a rank reward. That dropped off recently though, last two I was out of the money with those scores but hopefully this change to percentage based rank rewards will be pretty nice.

Working on getting my top three 4*'s up to 3/30 after our big rank up. It's really true the rich get richer in this game, I can pull down over 18k points a fight with my top 3 and they aren't even maxed yet.

 
4* shards for dupping 3*s is a better prize than whatever we'd get in a 7 day crystal opening IMO.

I'm gonna hold out for now and hope the rewards are worth it. Can't imagine we're gonna ever get this many saved up again. I know you pretty much have full immunity to do rankups and crystals whenever, my concern is that others will see crystals being opened and just follow suit. It's a crappy situation all around. Kabam is so frustrating.

damn them. Was hoping for a 3 day crystal event.I still think we should open. No event reward we've ever gotten has been as good as a portion of a 4*. None.

Only thing that could potentially trump that is a level 4 cat and I doubt that will be a 7 day reward.

 
This duping 3* for 4*shards is probably the best deal kabam has ever had for getting 4*s.

I say open all dailies, phc, special phc, and 3* crystals before the 31st.

Save the 4* crystals you earn via shards. Heck, they may be worth more in a 7 day event later anyways.

 
I actually can agree with most of this....but some of us don't have a fleet of 4* champs. Sitting on any of those earned from shards would be tough.

 
Waiting until then makes sense.

Each 3* dupe will equal roughly 1/36th of a 4*. Between 3* dupes and other sources, I'm hopefully I could make a 4* by the time the 7 day crystal event rolls around, which would largely mitigate the points lost by opening these crystals now.

 
I don't care either way, I'm good with opening or holding. But opening on the 31st and taking our balls back from Kabam might be the biggest plus on either side.

 
I want to open sooner rather than later. The fun is being reduced a bit and I can use the class ISO to upgrade heroes at a discounted gold rate. Shards are an obvious plus.

Sorry I didn't get my second set of duels in. Woke late and then was dealing with work stuff.

 
I'd lean towards opening, too. Anything that progresses towards a guaranteed 4* seems better than holding and hoping that Kabam releases an event with prizes that are achievable and better than that.

And opening crystals is a lot more fun than hoarding them.

 
What really sucks is you just know they're then going to have some kind of crystal or dupe event the first week of Sept. They must get some sick twisted pleasure from the way they run their events.

 
Pulling this from chat since it will probably fall off the chat log there soon:

If we do open crystals, that should start around 10:30 a.m. pacific time Sunday (the 30th) or when ever we are pretty sure no 3-day crystal event will be starting on that day.

If we open, it should only be crystals with a decent shot at a 3*, so save the dailies. Also, Punisher & U.C. dupes don't count so no alliance or battle crystals either. You should only open PHCs, special hero crystals, or 3* crystals, but not 4* crystals.

But still undecided on whether or not to open.

 
I know the spreadsheet isn't necessarily up to date. But assuming that the ratio of points stays about consistent.

We have just under 2 million points showing in it. 950k are from PHCs. 100k are from 3* crystals.

So if we do PHCs and 3* crystals we probably cut our saved points in half. Just putting that out there as info.

 
What would be best milestone reward be for a 3 day crystal event? I doubt a 4*. And I don't think we stand a chance for the rank rewards, since the big alliances will have way more crystals, at least a lot of 4*s.

If we keep on saving crystals, we might get a 4* from the 7 day event. But when is that event coming? If we are not opening, we're missing out on the 4* shards. A sure 4* but not knowing when, or partial 4* shards now. Tough, tough.

 
Holding crystals is a gamble for sure. Kabam could easily just hold off the crystal event for another 1-2 months or it might be just around the corner. Either way there's a possibility I might kill myself, but I agree with yuk here that we should probably decide soon

 
I haven't been holding anywhere near as long as some of you....but I'm ready to open stuff. Really need to land more 4* champs and the PHC/shards/saving credits are really my only realistic options.

Waiting for another *Insert Guess As To How Long Kabam Takes to MAYBE Do a 7 Day Event* could be lengthy. I get some people will be pissed as hell if it winds up being three days from now, but personally it won't bother me that much.
