OuchNow when I watch Marvin Harrison on the sideline, I don't see peculiar. I see petulance. I see the Colts' skill players huddled around Manning, and I see Harrison -- who is having his worst season as a pro -- sitting by himself, 30 yards away. I watch this happen last week at home against the Patriots, and again Sunday at Pittsburgh, and I wonder if Harrison has more in common with Terrell Owens than we'd suspected. But that's not fair to Terrell Owens, because T.O. would have done his damndest to make that catch in the second quarter on Sunday, and he wouldn't have been spooked into alligator-arming that drop in the end zone in the third quarter. Terrell Owens can be a baby and even a jerk, but he's neither indifferent nor scared when the football comes his way. And he's never been accused of shooting a man. Marvin Harrison? We don't know Marvin Harrison. Or at least, we didn't know him a few years ago. Maybe we're starting to know him now. I liked him better when I didn't know him at all.
That play reminded me of a friend of mine who I played high school basketball with. He would go down "hurt" once every 2-3 games. He'd stay on the court looking like he'd just been shot, get up, hobble off and then come back in the game a minute later as if nothing had happened. Great guy but we always ripped on him for being a drama queen. Harrison reminded me of my friend on that play.I won't go so far as to call him a fraud, but after that 2nd drop, considering the defender barely touched him, I wondered if he was "playing dead" after dropping what should have been an easy catch for him. I even said it in the game thread here.

the ones that know him.. know he's an A Hole
I have stated on this bored in the past that Harrison is just as much a jerk if not more than some of the other WRs with a worse reputation.
Harrison was given a free pass becasue he was quiet ...and people thought he was a class act because of it....they are wrong.
QFT. He's done this throughout his career....For the record Harrison sits on the bench by himself quite often.
I always remember Marvin sitting by himself..even years ago.For the record Harrison sits on the bench by himself quite often.
I tend to agree with you. That said, I do think Marvin is something of an enigma wrapped in a mystery, and he is worth writing about. But as you said, this was in poor taste.Kick him while he's down type article IMO.Not exactly a brave write-up...more like a calculated, well-timed bash session. Maybe it's well deserved but it comes across as a hatchet job on a future Hall of Famer instead of a rational piece on an aging player who had a very poor game and off the field issues this past summer. There is a way to write Harrison's 2008 story but this isn't it.
Has Sean Taylor been gone that long? Have we forgotten? That said, the 2nd quarter drop/miss/didntmakeaneffort was pitiful. And I agree with the drama queen remarks. Just 'cause Harrison never used a pylon as a putter, and didn't talk to the media, didn't make him a role model. But that's not fair to Terrell Owens, because T.O. would have done his damndest to make that catch in the second quarter on Sunday, and he wouldn't have been spooked into alligator-arming that drop in the end zone in the third quarter. No. Pretending like he's still a good NFL wide receiver makes him a fraud. As I wrote on these boards last summer, if Harrison hade any PRIDE he would retire rather than subject his legacy to the abysmal season he is about to have.dropping a pass makes him a fraud? can't see how his performance on field relates to the alleged shooting...
LINKS?the ones that know him.. know he's an A Hole

Proof down?Whether he is a fraud or not, Harrison should be behind bars. It is a good thing he is past his prime, otherwise his aim might have been better when he fired the gun and almost killed a guy.
Harrison seems to be a decent guy who keeps to himself. You saying he should be behind bars (probably because of the bogus gun thing he had no control over) is obviously a reaction from someone who is misinformed. Anyone who puts Harrison in the same company of other NFL thugs is an idiot, through and through, no doubt. When it's all said and done, Marvin Harrison will not only go into the Hall of Fame, but his character will follow him intact.Whether he is a fraud or not, Harrison should be behind bars. In my opinion it is more than likely Harrison was the shooter. At the very least he was involved in the crime. Hey, turn a blind eye to your football heroes and believe what you want, you have your opinion and I have mine. And by the way I believe OJ was guilty of double murder even though jury said he was innocent. In some cases there is never enough proof. Just ask Ray Lewis.A source told the Philadelphia Daily News that Harrison, during an interview with police, later admitted to being in a fistfight on April 29, but the Colts receiver said he wasn't involved in the shooting
A source told 610 WIP radio in Philadelphia that the victim came into Playmakers -- a bar owned by Harrison that is about a half-mile from his car wash -- about 5 p.m. and engaged in an argument with Harrison. The victim then left the bar, heading to his car, with Harrison following. Gunfire broke out and the victim was hit in the hand.
A source told the Philadelphia Daily News that a 2-year-old boy suffered a cut under his eye from glass that shattered when an errant bullet hit a car windshield, according to police.
Police came to the scene, but the victim did not identify a shooter.
On Wednesday of last week, according to the WIP report, a source said ballistic tests showed that the gun that had fired the shots was a custom-made Belgian weapon, and police determined that Harrison owned such a gun. A source told ESPN.com's John Clayton that the gun is registered.
Police then went to the Philadelphia car wash owned by Harrison to question him about the gun. Harrison admitted owning such a weapon but claimed it never left his suburban Philadelphia home.
However, WIP's source said the gun was discovered in a bucket at the car wash, and tests showed that it had fired seven bullets that matched those found at the scene"
A guy (who Marvin Harrison recently fights with) gets shot outside Marvin Harrison's bar with Marvin Harrison's gun. Connect the dots. There is actually a law on the books of PA that if someone is shot with your gun, you are responsible whether you pulled the trigger or not. I'm not sure why Marvin Harrison isnt behind bars now unless that law only results in a misdemeanor charge.Proof down?Whether he is a fraud or not, Harrison should be behind bars. It is a good thing he is past his prime, otherwise his aim might have been better when he fired the gun and almost killed a guy.
His character is already flawed due to the multiple incidents he has been involved in.Why is the "gun thing" bogus? A guy was shot with HIS gun which he keeps under the bar at his Bar. The gun was later found in a bucket at Harrison's Car Wash. What do you think happened?Harrison seems to be a decent guy who keeps to himself. First, where do you people come from. Second, I'll side with the law and Marvin is free because he didn't do anything."Proof down?Whether he is a fraud or not, Harrison should be behind bars. Do you have any proof Harrison shot at anyone, or is that your assumption because it was his gun? What is bogus about a guy getting shot. How informed are you? Was it not Harrisons gun? Was it not found on his property? Did the altercation not happen at his business, a strip club in seedy area in Philadelphia? Sounds like he was in complete control when he fired HIS gun. Another question, do you know Harrison personally? If not, what do you know of his character? You watch him play football, that tells alot of one's character. Get real. Enough with the jibberish. Let me ask you, is there proof he fired the gun? Is there proof he was holding the gun that was fired? LOL. Or have you already convicted Marvin Harrison? The law says the case is still open. Harrison has been charged, but it also doesnt mean he didnt do it. Crimes are committed everyday without proof for incarciration. OJ went to trial and was found innocent, go figure. Alot of people said there wasnt enough proof. So call me uninformed and an idiot for believing that OJ was guilty even though there wasnt enough proof to put him away for double homicide.Do you have any proof Harrison shot at anyone, or is that your assumption because it was his gun? What pisses me off is that his character is in question at the twilight of his career. I believe Harrison's character is one of the best ever in the NFL, and it will be looked upon as such once he puts on the yellow jacket.Since when do FF owners care about character? We had people here defending LJ to the hilt..Can Marvin put up 60-70 and a TD on Sunday? That is all I care about Marvin Harrison.

Who cares? The guy plays football. Why do people care about what these guys do/say/etc. They're athletes. They run around as entertainment.I personally don't care about any celebrities/athletes. I don't put them on a pedestal just because they hit the genetic jackpot. They're people like you and me. I don't give a #### about his legacy and I don't get why people care... all Marvin Harrison has done is play football at a high level. The only legacies that should matter are the ones of Martin Luther King, Ghandi, Lincoln, Jesus, Bill Gates... people who actually have made the world a better place. #### MARVIN HARRISON!What pisses me off is that his character is in question at the twilight of his career. His character has come under scrutiny a lot these past few years. He's been accused of accosting two kids asking for autographs at the Pro Bowl, he whined incessantly a few years back for not being more involved, he has this shooting episode hanging over his head, and you hear reports from those who have met him and interviewed him that he is NOT the high character fellow we have been led to believe. His character is certainly NOT one of the best ever in the NFL, not sure how or why you believe this jibberish, and it worsens all the time. He'll get into Canton, but his image is not as clean as some have been fooled into believing. What pisses me off is that his character is in question at the twilight of his career. Why I think Marvin can turn it around somewhat.Reasons for decline-1. Early in the season, if Marvin #'s are down 50%- 25% of that is do to his decline, 25% due to Manning being off and missing him. For all the lost a step talk, I have seen every game and am a big Manning fan, but there is no doupt that Harrison has gotten open multiple times early in the year, and Manning either overthrew, underthrew or often threw to the back shoulder instead of front, or too late on a comback route e. Even Wayne's #'s are down, take away the lucky tip and even last weeks game was just avg... So unless Wayne has lost a step too- some of this decline is on Manning--- also the oline not giving Manning his usual time, and lack of running game.2. Early in the season, teams were actually paying alot of attention to Harrison, Minn, others put their top CB's on him or doubled him..3. For the most part Colts have played top def's.Reason for rebound4. Harrison is currently getting slammed for the dropped passes.... as Dungy said- it's more important that Harrison is able to get open and behind the def-- the guy got open- he just dropped the passes... His hands have never been in question, he has lost a step def, but he hasn't lost the ability to catch- that doesn't happen-- he just had a really bad game-- that does happen to everyone--- Michael Jordan in his prime had plenty of 5 for 30 shooting nights, but that didn't mean he lost his shot for good.5. As in the Baltimore game_ Harrison has shown the ability to abuse the CB's with his route running, experience. That game was a great example of his #'s being worse than they should- Manning flat out missed a wide open Harrison at least 3 times for td's when Harrison had blown by the CB.6. The Colts have some really good passing matchups finally- weaker CB's that will have to double Wayne, account for Clark, Gonzo, and take chances with Harrison7. There has to be some pride from a great athlete to go out on a better note I would think. So I agree he's not what he was- but he should be with what he does have left and in that offense a borderline 1000 yd wr... Maybe he is hit shy now, maybe his heart isn't in it- but the things people are pointing out he is doing to indicate that is things he has always done. He never sat with the rest of the offense, he always would go down and not take a hit, etc.. Its just that he was putting up huge #'s so no one cared...I believe sold WR3 in fantasy lleague here on out, maybe WR2 if he gets some momentum going.Geez, another argument about Harrison's alleged involvement in that shooting incident? That's sooo August/September.Let's stay in the present. I'd much prefer to read a logical reason why Harrison will turn around his sub-par season with an outstanding performance against the Texans this Sunday (since I'm bravely starting him in several leagues).
Thanks, King. I'm a Colts fan and I agree that Manning's early problems -- caused by the July knee surgery -- were a big reason for Marvin's declining stats.I'm beginning to feel a little better about starting Marvin now. But if he doesn't perform well against the Texans' DBs (and with Manning now apparently back to full health), he won't see my starting lineup for the rest of the year. Why I think Marvin can turn it around somewhat.Reasons for decline-1. Flip through Doyel's archives and you'll see this is the only kind of article he writes. He's a who-do-I-rip-today hack, and it's impossible to take any of his columns seriously once you've read at least two of them.Kick him while he's down type article IMO.Not exactly a brave write-up...more like a calculated, well-timed bash session. There is a way to write Harrison's 2008 story but this isn't it.
You are right. I shouldn't have gotten sucked into the shooting incident topic. My bad for elevating it.As for his fantasy production, I think Harrison will continue to be inconsistant. His upside is if Manning and the colts offense keeps improving. His downside is what we have seen all year, which is medicore play at best. I would play Harrison strictly on what is the best matchup in relation to the other spot starters that you are considering to start.Geez, another argument about Harrison's alleged involvement in that shooting incident? That's sooo August/September.Let's stay in the present. I'd much prefer to read a logical reason why Harrison will turn around his sub-par season with an outstanding performance against the Texans this Sunday (since I'm bravely starting him in several leagues).
I agree that Harrison is one of the best WRs in the history of the NFL and belongs in the HOF.I have no idea what really happened at his bar / car wash. You appear to be confusing character with outstanding peformance on a football field. This is a common mistake. In this life, people get reputations. Whether or not the reputation is good or bad, or deserved or not deserved, it happens.
