Marvin Lewis just lost his job (1 Viewer)

I mean, he did kinda get jobbed by the refs in this one. Bryant didn't have control till his last foot touched down, Shazier absolutely should have gotten flagged for a crown to crown hit, and the ref get jumped in front of jones for the last penalty.

:lmao:

i'd fire him asap if i were the owner of that team
This sounds like something the Briwns would do and something the Steelers would not do.

Given those respective fanchises' performance, I would choose to emulate the Steelers...

Serious question...was the Burfict shoulder to head hit illegal. If so, why?

I will be honest...I have followed this game for 30 years and I don't even know what the rules are anymore in terms of what is a catch or an illegal hit.

I mean...there was some brief speculation or out loud asking by Nance if the Burfict sack of Big Ben was illegal...I mean...that is where we are at with the game.

It's a hard call - another damn good season and was in great position to win the game with a backup QB if not for the knucklehead and the personal foul. On the other hand, can't get past the first round of the playoffs and he is ultimately the one who should be on these players to not do stupid ####.

I agree and it is quite frustrating.

I don't really have a team, per se. So, my interest in the game has waned significantly from when I was a kid/high schooler who would devour any all sports. So, I am not sure if my situation is even all that relevant because I am not a die hard fan.

But, I have genuinely reached the point where I just don't watch football anymore other than to have it on for background noise or to take a Sunday nap on the couch.

I may sound like a whiny insincere complainer...but I feel like I have watched games and get invested in the game (not even in any specific team winning) only to watch the game get decided by terrible calls on roughing the passer, targeting, hitting a defenseless receiver, etc). So, too often I come away from a game feeling like I got cheated or that I have no idea what it is that I am watching.

I legitimately watched probably 3 hours of NFL football this season. I am like...it is the playoffs and it is the Bengals vs the Steelers. I will sit down and watch this. Now I feel like I got burned again. I don't feel like the game was really settled on the field.

I will probably watch the Vikes sub zero game out of the curiosity factor...but if something crazy happens there I will probably just tune out until the superbowl and show up at the obligatory watch party at a friend's house we go to every year.

Don't question the Burfict hit in the other forum or you will get attacked. I asked the same thing. Brown weighs 100lbs, if Burfict hit Witten or Gronk across the middle no flag and they barely nudge. The hit wasn't that malicious. Some people act like it as attempted murder and he should be doing time behind bars.

It's a hit to the head on a defenseless receiver. Brown hadn't made any kind of move. Burfict is an idiot to lay that hit in that situation. almost had two brain dead players on the same play.

I agree. I used to have all the games and had NFL rewind to catch games during the week. Now I have trouble getting through a game. Too many challenges, and so many big penalties from refs at key moments. If my fiancé wasn't all into fantasy this year I would have completely tuned it out I think. Just line up and snap the damn ball. Leave the camera and flags at home.

Shazier's hit seemed more targeted to me, but at those speeds it's always splitting hairs.

Is the new rule you have to let a player run five yards past you before you can chase after and tackle him?

Yeah and Bernard also is tiny. The hits look much worse cause they are on two guys who look like they should be selling popcorn and not playing football.

Bernard was not defenseless. He made a football move, hence the reversal to a fumble on the challenge.

Did I say anything at all about defenseless?

On the play that knocked Benard of the game?
That wasn't an illegal hit. If anything, the Bengals lucked out the play got blown dead and had to be reviewed. Shazier cruises for a TD if they don't.
You're delusional. That's been an illegal hit for decades.
It was without a doubt an illegal hit that the refs failed to call... but it's only been illegal since 2013.

I have no idea. I'm pretty drunk.

The rule Shazier violated has nothing to do with the defenseless player rule. This is the rule that was added in 2013 that Shazier broke on the play (but was not called for): http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000238662/article/new-nfl-rules-crownofhelmet-change-to-help-runner-defender

NEW RULE: A ban on a ball carrier initiating contact with the crown of his helmet in the open field or by a defender while making a tackle.

What the rule changes: A 15-yard penalty will be called if a runner or a tackler initiates forcible contact by delivering a blow with the top/crown of his helmet against an opponent when both players clearly are outside the tackle box (an area extending from tackle-to-tackle and from 3 yards beyond the line of scrimmage to the offensive team's end line). Incidental contact by the helmet of a runner or a tackler against an opponent would not be deemed a foul.

Why the change was made: The NFL is trying to avoid concussions at all costs, so this rule will make it illegal for players to use their helmets as weapons. Using the helmet on hits against receivers already is illegal, so this is the next logical step.

I said the hits to Bernard and Brown look a lot worse cause they weigh 100lbs and are getting hit from grown ### NFL players. AP or Witten could take either of those hits and been just fine.

I thought Adam Jones named it on the post game Instagram, sorry Willie but I found it entertaining and the real side of these guys. I might have a new avatar if I can get a stillshot.
