Matthew Stafford another reason to like him (1 Viewer)

Throwing players down by the helmet/facemask after throwing your 4th interception in a blowout loss. Very classy, good sportsmanship, etc
He was fending off a block from a DB, was getting held, and got a little carried away. I like seeing my QB showing a little fight and spunk.
1) DJ Moore was barely blocking him. Stafford is much bigger than Moore and easily could've attempted to get rid of him. But didn't until the ball carrier was well past him, meaning it wasn't part of making a play.2) "Got a little carried away." He was being an immature baby in a blow out. Nothing of that speaks of a class or a reason to like him. If people don't like Jay Cutler for hanging his head after a pick, how can you like someone that throws people down by the head(remember this is a bigger deal with all the safety issues now).

3) Matt Stafford is a role model to a lot of people, even Will. Now you think acting the way he did is the "right" "classy" thing to do? QB showing fight and spunk is different than displaying poor sportsmanship. Showing fight and spunk, would've been Stafford going all out to either tackle the ball carrier or force a fumble.

How does drinking under age or an on the field incident take anything away from what he did for that little kid? How many of us didn't drink under age or get into a few fist fight?

I have to side with "k" on this one. I mean, it's not like he's stepping on a player after the play is over...I've seen plenty worse scuffles from "decent" players on the playing field...

That doesn't justify it.Example: Your GF when you were 18 cheated on you with 10 guys. Your current GF cheated on you with only 5 guys. Does that make it okay because it wasn't as bad as the first gf?

Looking for someone to argue with - nice. Stafford's moment of lost composure on the field doesn't epitomize who the guy is. Give me a break Benson.

Not looking to argue anything, acting as if that isn't classless/really poor sportsmanship is denial on your part. Outside of that, I like Stafford as a player. He's competitive, tough, etc. I coached against him in college...kid is uber talented.

WTF? How is this even remotely analogous to the discussion here? :loco:

This comment "I've seen plenty worse scuffles from "decent" players on the playing field..."

It doesn't. Not in the least. But I'm sure the justification is coming.ETA: That was quick.

Benson, you claimed you coached against Stafford in college, yet you call him classless for that? I would think you would know that losing your composure briefly and showing some extra competitiveness and spunk does not make you classless. Tell me who you think has class, and I'll find you a video clip of something just as bad or worse than what Stafford just did.

I'd way rather have him on my team than a QB who is not going hustle in that situation.

But I agree with the others. It looks like you are arguing for the sake of arguing.

I think we can all point to a moment in our life that we acted out of character. If that is the worst we see from Stafford I am okay with it. No need to point to argue the small negative when there is a much bigger positive to be discussed.

Lets just agree to disagree. By the way, I didn't even bring up the play.

Benson, this is a ridiculous troll. Give it a rest, my goodness, ruined a thread trying to give a player some due respect.

Deal.

Good to see this side of him. Last pictures I had seen off the field were him at a boat party or something.
