JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Still reeling from a 41-0 loss at Seattle, Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew(notes) lashed out at the team’s play-calling, its lack of offensive identity and its constant shuffling of offensive linemen.

Frustrated? Try furious.

In a 15-minute session with reporters Wednesday, Jones-Drew ripped several aspects of his team. He even called himself the second-highest paid “decoy” in the league, behind New Orleans running back Reggie Bush(notes).

Jones-Drew acknowledged that his bitterness stemmed from the offense’s struggles and the humbling shutout in Seattle.

“I don’t like to be embarrassed, so I do get upset about it,” Jones-Drew said. “You lead by actions. You can only say so much. You can talk to somebody until you’re blue in the face and they’re not going to do anything. But if you go out there and show why you’re upset and you try to do something to correct your mistakes, then they’ll pay attention.”
Didn't see a thread on this. Anyone think we a different offense next week?

Dude is overcompensating for something. Obviously his Friday night didn't go as well as some guys.

Last time I checked everyone on this board rips the Jags play calling.

I'd think he has more of a right to do...

JDR should suspend him 4 games for conduct detrimental to the team. Then, after losing 1/4th of his salary for the year, he won't be the 2nd highest paid decoy anymore.

Seattle beat them 41-0. If you get any offense next week it will be different.

Things seem to be unraveling quickly in Jacksonville.
One and a half years is considered quickly?
Winning cures a lot of problems and before last week the Jaguars had two strong offensive performances and had just beaten two division rivals in a row. They looked like they had a big playmaker receiver and Gerrard was playing well. They had some momentum. Now is one week Del Rio deactivates his big time receiver for a curfew violation and MJD is publicly complaining about his role. The momentum had taken a quick 180.So, yes. Things seem to be unraveling quickly.

I don't disagree with you here. I just thought it was a good time for me to relay my displeasure with what has been going on in Jacksonville.

Watch out, Del Rio might bench him for a week for "talking #### in the media" Not kidding.

You know you have a top FF RB when a guy is #3 (PPR) or 4 (non-PPR) & hasn't even really broken out yet, but is complaining about not getting enough touches. You gotta love that, LOL.

On a serious note, MJD is well-respected & is kinda like E.F. Hutton, if you know what I mean. I don't know if MJD will necessarily get more touches because he spoke up, but sometimes the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Del Rio & company would be wise to listen, IMO.

There's precedence for defying Del Rio, actually. See Deon Grant and Mike Peterson.

I don't know how much money the ownership has tied up in DelRio and his coaching staff but money has to be playing a part in his retention. The team is clearly floundering and attendance is down. I am sure ownership is not excited about paying the salaries of two staffs.

I can't decide if naming Reggie Bush as the biggest decoy in the league is a compliment, insult, or neither.

Do we have a figure on the percentage of plays that MJD touches the ball?

He averages roughly $5M per year through 2012. Yes, you read that right. Wayne Weaver won't and can't pay two salaries. Unfortunately, he's not going anywhere for a while.

JDR was stupid to sit his best WR last week, IMO. Sending a guy a message is one thing but sitting him out and putting your team in a tough spot is another. He should have sat him for the first half or something along those lines.

I wonder when the axe will be brought back into the locker room to build team unity...

I can see it now, "Maurice Jones-Drew: week 6, late inactive." Or worse, JDR decides Jennings needs to see 50% of the reps. Seriously, I would put nothing past JDR.

MJD doesn't sound like the typical football player. While he was criticizing the team, he did it in a way that was respectful, and most NFL players aren't eloquent enough to pull that off. He appears to be a very smart guy, the Jags coaches should listen, imo

MJD has been putting up decent FF numbers on the season, but from an NFL perspective - if I was him I'd be upset too. However, none of this is really surprising. I actually didn't expect him to be putting up as good FF numbers as he has been, and expect them to drop off... not because MJD isn't good... rather because he can only do so much by himself.

Maurice Jones-Drew and Santana Moss

or

Cedric Benson and Reggie Wayne

What side would you rather be on?

someone should tell MJD that three yard runs are not the recipe for eliminating a huge deficit . . .
He averages 4.4 yards per carry and is the only big-play threat the Jags have when MSW isn't on the field.
He hasn't averaged over 4 YPC in the last two games. Against HOU he had a big game, but they are the worst rush defense in the league.

More surprising: that MJD averaged below 4 ypc on 6 carries two weeks ago, or that Switz thinks that's somehow meaningful? Frank Gore has only averaged 4 yards per carry since week 3, his explosiveness must be gone, too.If MJD's not the best big-play threat the Jags have when MSW isn't on the field, then who is?
