The Seahawks have agreed in principle on a three-year contract with running back Maurice Morris.

A second-round choice from Oregon in 2002, Morris has averaged 4.7 yards on 171 carries in four seasons behind Pro Bowl starter Shaun Alexander.

Morris carried eight times for 104 yards to help Seattle set a franchise record with 320 rushing yards against Houston on Oct. 16.

The way you guys are moaning, you would think that you spent an arm and a leg trading for him. Or god forbid - picked him up for FREE. Exactly what did you lose? So you "wasted" a roster slot. Big deal. Of course, if you did spend an arm and a leg trading for him, my comiserations, but you really shouldn't be spending too much on prospects anyways! Let that be a lesson.

FWIW, I spent a 12th rounder in 2004 inaugral dynasty draft on Maurice Morris. And I'm not complaining.

It's a sad day, like the end of a long relationship.

For years I've been drafting Mo Morris late in my keeper league as a "he may get a change to be a starter somewhere next year" player. It looks like we are going to break off our long standing accord this year.

Goodbye Mo Morris, hello Davenport!

:lmao: Think again! From the Blogger...Packers Sign RB Davenport To One-Year Contract

Tom Silverstein, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel - [Full Article]

Drew Rosenhaus, the agent for free agent running back Najeh Davenport, said on Saturday afternoon that Davenport will sign a one-year contract to remain a member of the Green Bay Packers. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Wow, I really expected Indy to sign him after saying they think he'd be a good starter in their offense. Bump up Rhode's value a little. There arent any worthy free agents left on the current market. That could still change after the draft even if Indy cant get one of the top backs. As someone could lose their job and become available.

There goes his value off a cliff.
Not so fast says the man hoeing out his posting from the past...

He basically only played two extra games. The Seahawks had a first round bye and he barely played in the second round. Since Seattle locked their playoff spot early he only played sparingly at the end of the regular season. He was well rested for both playoff games.Shaun Alexander has carried a huge load EVERY season. He certainly isn't showing any signs of wear and tear. Someday he will and THEN you will be right.

:lmao: at those who actually had their hopes up for something to happen

Morris is and always will be a backup RB in the NFL.

:goodposting: No, great post.

I gave up on Morris two years ago, and I'm an Alexander owner!

I've said this numerous times, and since we're all supposed "sharks" in here, or else you're not a shark, but you're looking for good advice... let the also-rans chase guys that "maybe-someday, if the chance is right, and the starter breaks his leg, and, and, and..."

Yeah, yeah, I know... every once in a while a backup breaks out, like LaMont Jordan or Stephen Davis. But for every Jordan, there are 10 Maurice Morris's. Handcuff backups to your own guys and let the guppies worry about the coulda-shoulda-woulda's.

Works for me, though it depends on roster size. I've traded Dayne, Rhodes, and Ricky (twice) away this offseason for good returns, and have CTaylor as a probable starter for next year. This is in just two dynasty leagues, and those guys cost almost nothing to pick up. Only Rhodes was a handcuff for one of my players.Sure, I've taken shots that didn't work out, like with Musa Smith, Maurice Morris, and Labrandon Toefield... but I don't mind holding five wildcard RBs on a 53-man roster if I can get a decent return for even two of them.

I think each backup RB case needs to be analyzed independently. There was a big difference between LaMont Jordan and Maurice Morris and Musa Smith. Plus, it all depends what you have to do to get the backup. For example, I picked up Maurice Morris at the end of last year and dropped my second kicker. I then parlayed Morris into something better (1.5 pick in college draft) last month when his value was inching higher. If I never picked up Morris, I wouldn't be sitting on the 1.5 pick right now.

I think it's hard to make blanket statements about backups because there are just too many variables.

Well said. But you did what every shark who owns Mo Morris should have done long ago.Dropping your 2nd kicker at the end of the year, and parlaying that into a better pick was a deft move. Holding on to him, refusing to trade him, hoping he'll get a shot someday is the weak move.
