McClure's BBQ (1 Viewer)

My hours since Friday:

approx 630 am to 11 pm everyday. I went home at 930 one night to be honest.

120+ hours. Gonna have to trim that back a little
Start making a list for the whole process now. You will need to be able to delegate sometimes. And this place is going to be huge. You'll need to explain it to whoever runs your second location.
I've decided to quit my career and read tea leaves.

The wheels are turning extremely fast right now. A cafe on the westbank closed and needs a new tenant. Its cheaper rent, a bigger suburban crowd with a heavy industrial base of workers nearby, and the place is huge...nearly 4 times bigger than what i have now. they want me there...i know i will absolutely kill it for M-F lunch alone.. I CANNOT PASS IT UP. Dude doesn't want me to sign more than a month to month lease for now. I have very little to lose by trying. I wouldn't waste my time or money if I thought it wasn't going to kill it. My biggest worry at moment is that demand will force dinners and weekends too. Staffing can solve that easily enough I guess....i just never pictured me having two restaurants going...i feel sick to my stomach with excitement.
The pinnacle of awesomeness!

actually....my hometown needs one...mainly so I have an excuse to go see my mom more. It has been put on the long range planning.... my partner has visions of his music production company hiring bands to make a circuit from houston to destin. he of course wants mcbbq to come along for the ride.

I haven't had my burger yet this week. That'll change later. I've been pimpin' it pretty hardcore to the neighborhood peeps who sit at my bar.

Congrats GB!

Be careful. My sister, also the chef opened a second location in year 2, 3 or so. Since she was the chef, she was indispensable to both locations. It wore her out. 2nd location closed after about 14 months. Original location was crazy busy #2 was decently busy, but it was just too much without someone to totally run the other kitchen, unpossible in her case.

Man I gotta make it to NO

ive got the kitchen guy to do it...he cooks my stuff now. i have another guy i can split time with here at original for running the pit. One pit may supply both a few days a week...very feasible with such a short distance.

all I really need is the operational cash to get this one running by the end of the month. anybody got 15 to 20k they want to make a nice return on within the year???

I'll go in for half
Hey if 100 of us tossed in $250, he is set with $25k. FFA Kickstarter!!!

Hmmm, if Potato Salad worked on Kickstarter, how 'bout BBQ? ;)
how does kickstarter work...how do contributors get paid back?
Varies, some products get you a discount, shipping earlier on a new product. For example, a software had a $5 donation get you listed on a "Hall of Fame", $25 got you the $5 award plus a t-shirt, $70 got you a firmware and a lifetime license to software, and so on.

A restaurant is giving notices in their menu, free meals, guided tours.

Below is the sample of the potato salad Kickstarter. It is sort of a joke.

I'm making potato salad.
Basically I'm just making potato salad. I haven't decided what kind yet.

UPDATE: WE DID IT

Stretch Goals:

$35 - I will make 4x as much Potato Salad. I know $40 isn't 4x $10, but you guys have earned it.

$75 - Pizza Party!

$100 - I will try two different Potato Salad recipes.

UPDATE #2: ALL THE POTATO THAT'S FIT TO PRINT

We made the news. Let's keep up the good work! New stretch goals coming soon!

http://www.cnet.com/news/guys-kickstarter-dream-making-potato-salad-possibly-with-dill/

UPDATE #3: WOW YOU GUYS

We're making a lot of great progress. I think it's time for us to think about getting hats made. I added a new donor level for people who want hats. For those who are interested the hats could look like this: http://www.zazzle.com/i_love_potato_salad_mesh_hat-148005376484063142

Stretch goals:

$250 - Better mayonnaise (from the natural foods section)

$300 - Call a chef to get a better recipe

$350 - Make way more potato salad and probably do a third recipe.

WE MADE THE NEWS!

http://www.abc6onyourside.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/mans-potato-salad-plea-takes-off-kickstarter-33010.shtml

NEW STRETCH GOALS:

$1000: I'll do a live stream of the potato salad making

$1200: I'll pay someone to film a thank-you video for all of my backers!

Fbgs poop 20k. That's nothing. How is that all you need?
because its got everything i need for the most part...ovens..coolers (i need more) ...even tables n chairs. hell the silverware is still on the tables from last place that closed recently.
And it helps with your underutilization of the smoker for weekday lunch - almost all variable cost for little investment. That is a very opportunity!

I would contribute at the 250 or so level and I'm not looking for any returns.

Would have to be in September when I start getting paid again though

Congrats GB!

Usually by a bit of the product the business sells. Donate $25, get a tshirt and a packet of McClure's dry rub, that sort of thing.
Yea im seeing alot of restaurants do this. You can do a number of things such as: $100 - VIP card which gets you 50% off meals for the next year; contribute $1000 name a sandwich after you; Contribute $1500 get a private party. tons of options. And i agree it would be easy to do with just FBG by itself. But the real benefit is, people in your neighborhood will like to support their local business. As a result they have more incentive to come by and tell their friends to come by.

its empty again...thanks

Kickstarter keeps a good chunk, and the taxes on it suck, from what I've heard. Research it fully. If it is just operating cash influx a return could come around fairly quickly, right? You may be able to raise that in here.

I'd love to participate in a McClure's Kickstarter!
:goodposting:
you guys rock. i'll think about this option for a couple of days.
It would probably be easier for you to get your goal than most because you've got a bunch of FBGs that would contribute, which would get you off to a great start...then use social media to get it out there to a bigger audience. People tend to contribute more when they see that a campaign is getting steady contributions. Rewards could be like for $25 you get a free meal card...$50 you get a meal and a shirt...$75 gets you a shirt and 3 meals...$500 gets your name on a plaque that will be posted in the restaurant of those that helped raise capital.

Just spit balling here.

:good posting: you have enough credibilty to raise probably close to 5 figures around here tipsy.

I'd throw in $1k if I could get a sandwich named The Big Kutta on the menu. Well, that and I'd like some free ribs if I ever get to NO.

ETA: I'm serious here.

it would be a damn fine fishing trip if he was scamming us

That's kinda lame about Kickstarter, but I guess they have a business to run...

I like Wingnut's idea. Not sure how often I'll be able to get down to NO, but probably enough to get some mileage out of a free meal or two.
