McDonald's year over year sales were terrible. How would you fix (2 Viewers)

They're fighting a losing battle. They have such a bad rep. And they're not going to change it easily.

Better treatment of their employees plus better farming practices would help the rep. But still wouldn't bring back the yuppies. And that's expensive. I don't know how they can ever get rid of the bad for you rep.

I think it's pretty common that parents won't take their kids to McDonalds but would take them to a place like 5 Guys or Chipotle that's probably just as unhealthy. (I know I know better ingredients but an extra 1000 calories in the average meal probably negates that advantage).
This guy gets it.

It's an uncool brand and I'm not sure they can ever reverse it.
Of course they can reverse it. There is a McDonald's on every street corner and they have the money to do anything they want to do.

They need to take a stand: Healthy or unhealthy. I don't see Five Guys adding salads and grilled chicken wraps to their menus, they just focus on great tasting food.

McDonald's could completely change the entire fast food industry. If I were in charge, I'd make two changes, and profits would soar.

1. Real beef. Just start buying real, local beef in bulk, and start having a prep guy that takes that meat and spends all morning cutting the meat into the proper portions. Not pre-frozen patties, but real fresh meat. Basically, how its done at Five Guys or any other place.

2. Animal fat for fries. Go back to what made the company successful. McDonald's fries are ok now. But they aren't amazing like they were 20 years ago. Change that. Go back to doing what you did.

Show your work on the 1000 calorie difference.

I've said that In and Out is a perfect version of what McDonalds used to be. Clean cheap burgers and fries. Get back to basics and do it cheaper and recapture some of the McD's magic.

I dont think the food is as good as it used to be. The biggest difference that I see is the service is horrific. I know it's fast food but I can go into a McDonalds and order my food with the only words from the cashier "that will be $6.88". Same thing with the drive up window. I cant tell you how many times I have been given my food without one word from the employee. this may not seem like a big deal but it bugs the #### out of me. I go into a Culvers and I get the complete opposite. Their stores are clean, the employees are courteous, and the food is just better than McDonalds.

Maybe that's an isolated incident. They are all pretty courteous at the 12 locations near me.

Apparently giving free food for life to mr Andrew Hammond of the Otttawa Senators is the means to success

So basically give up their stores in CA/AZ/TX and become In and Out for the rest of the country that doesn't have it?

They're taking out all of the playgrounds when kids are determining factor when a lot of families are deciding where to. Chicfila is killing for this reason. Very family friendly.

Mcdonald's is slowly on the way out. No longer really catering to families. Removing all the playgrounds. Idiots must be running the company now. Lmao @ someone up there thinking remodeling the stores or giving healthier menu options will help. What a waste

McDonald's has become a parody of itself. They sell horrible tasting, unhealthy, low quality food served up poorly in an unsanitary dining environment. How are they going to reverse their well-deserved, unfavorable image? Run a Dominoes Pizza style ad campaign that openly apologizes for selling crap and promising to do better? I'm not sure that would even help at this point. They have evolved into a giant, slow moving, bureaucratic dinosaur that is like GM, BlockBuster, Kmart, Radio Shack and every other fallen brand wrapped into one. They also just announced an extremely unimpressive and misguided turnaround plan that mainly focuses on shifting around the corporate structure with more emphasis on franchising, rather than actually fixing the underlying issues with menu, service, and quality. The morale of their franchisees is reportedly at its lowest level ever.

I don't think healthier menu options are the easy answer. They need high quality, great tasting food options and better service. If they served a burger that tasted as good as Shake Shack and was slightly cheaper, they would have my business the next day. But that will never happen. Social media and online services and apps like Yelp have also further undermined big brands like McDonalds because consumers can easily discover, share and discuss previously unknown options that are highly rated and vastly superior. And the official McDonald's apps for Android and iOS do not even support mobile ordering. Meanwhile competitors like Chipotle, Starbucks, and Subway all have this.

Forgot breakfast today and they are the only place on the way to work. Was greeted by two rude #######s at the windows and then I waited 11 minutes (ELEVEN!!) for a sausage mcmuffin because I ordered it with no cheese.

Next time I'll starve.

The ad campaign for their new burgers is horrid.

And the burgers look exactly like the last steakhouse burgers, the Angus burger which no one cared about either.

By taking the playgrounds out, they are trying to make the restaurants more like a Starbucks. They want people to hang out there and do work. They have tvs and high tables and plugs to hook up laptops and stuff. Not sure if McDonald's is going to be the place to hang out at but that's what I think when I walk into one... which is not often and the few I've been in are in better neighborhoods.

Also, that Hamburgler looks too much like Swiper from Dora.

McDonald's taps ex-Obama press secretary Robert Gibbs to head communications

McDonald's tapped two outsiders for key brand roles on Tuesday, the latest signal from the world's largest restaurant company that it wants to ignite change in the organization.

Robert Gibbs, former press secretary for President Barack Obama, was named global chief communications officer. Silvia Lagnado, a past chief marketing officer for Bacardi Limited, was named global chief marketing officer.

Gibbs and Lagnado will each serve as executive vice presidents and report to President and CEO Steve Easterbrook.

3000 - 2000 = 1000

Some of them have iPad type devices now. Yeah, I want to take my kids out so they can fight with other kids to play more video games. No thanks.

That new spokesperson guy hawking their angus burger and doing that stupid neck motion thing is the worse ever.

I caved in to my son's demands for mcnuggets last weekend (I know bad dad - I haven't let him have them in like six months prior), and got one of their new "artisan" chicken sandwiches. I don't think it was food. More like what a robot would produce as an approximation of food if a human described it to them. Do not get one of those things if you're unfortunate enough to be at a McDonalds.

The fries were still o.k.

Nothing wrong with doing this -- don't let anyone tell you different.

"Artisan" used to mean something. Not anymore.

Oddly, as much as people bag on "Don't let your kids eat McDonalds!!!!", the nuggets and fries are better tasting than a lot of their "high end", "artisan" offerings.

Oh, the fries and nuggets taste good. But they're terrible for you - that's why I try to avoid getting anything from there for my son.

i never did McD's as a kid or an adult but i do go there now with my son after his soccer class. he likes to hit the indoor playground area to run around for a little while. i'm fine with it because he's keyed up after soccer and this helps him. this is especially helpful in during the chicago winter which can be downright brutal.

the trade off, of course, is the Happy Meal we get him for playing. he likes whatever toy is included most of all but he'll eat most of what's in each HM. so a 4-piece McNugget which he never finishes, apple slices and the very wee french fries with milk is the price. we do this once a week when he's doing soccer. i get a coffee or smoothie.

meh.

God I ####### hate that guy. I don't know what they were shooting for with those commercials but if "likeable" was involved they undershot by a few magnitudes.

My kids get McDonald's chicken nuggets sometimes. I'm not sure how that makes us bad dads. It's all good. Nothing wrong with getting them what they want sometimes.

I used to bike a lot and I have never felt the need to stop at McDonald's while doing it.

ETA: Biking obviously. But not the other either

They discontinued 3 value menu sandwiches at my local McDonald's today - Bacon McDouble, Jalapeno Double, and the Buffalo Ranch McChicken. Their "dollar menu and more" seems to be shrinking by the month.
