McGahee with a knee injury? (1 Viewer)

Just found out that Ray Rice may be starting the first preseason game for the Ravens, anyone have any news on this?

Why knee injury - completely misleading here.

I would imagine it's beacuse they'll rest McGahee - haven't read anything different.

This title should be revised if there is no information to support a knee problem - something like "Why is McGahee out" would be far more appropriate

per Rotoworld:

Coach John Harbaugh says Willis McGahee (knee) is in danger of missing the Ravens' first preseason game.

Baltimore begins the exhibition season Thursday in Foxborough. Ray Rice will start. McGahee's left knee injury is not thought to be serious, but he often tends to deal with nagging ailments, making this a situation to monitor.

Time to take the Ray Rice bandwagon out for a spin.  :D

I'm sure it is not really anything, but if given the chance Rice will cut into McGahee's touches.

Not misleading. There has been mention of it.. althought I am not sure how serious."Baltimore Ravens rookie running back Ray Rice has been enduring punishing hits and bouncing off tackles, as well as honing his skills catching passes out of the backfield. Mostly, though, team officials took notice of his toughness and hard-nosed nature. Rice never complained while taking virtually every snap with starter Willis McGahee sidelined due to a knee injury with three other running backs injured, too. "I was impressed with the way he came through that," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. "He learned how to pick up blitzes. He was dog-tired, and he stepped in the A gap and hit linebackers in the face. That's not easy to do." "see footballguys news

Either Rice is one of the toughest guys to play football or he is going to hit a big time wall sometime this season. He had about 850 carries the last 2 years at Rutgers, and now every snap in camp.

that's why I put a question mark in the title. and asked if anyone had any news on this?
Let me press replay...You started a thread that had the words knee injury and McGahee in the same title...that was like pouring gasoline on an open fire in this place. Then when there was no link the board police quickly stepped in to make a citizen's arrest. However, a good smaritan stepped in and provided a link that just happened to correspond with your thread question...so all in all this is turning into a very interesting thread, although there doesn't seem to be any real cause for concern. Portis didn't play tonight and likely won't for almost all of the preseason. Don't take the preseason too seriously...Mike Hart had 53 yds on his 1st 4 carries tonight...he'll be lucky to make the team.

People in the community are really down on McGahee this year and I really don't understand why. With all the RBBC situations I thought there would be more love for McGahee. He's young, will get the bulk of the touches, etc.

I like McGahee a lot and think he will get a lot of touches...however he has lost a great possibly HoF LT the likes of a Willie Roaf and when he left KC, next is a very shaky and fluid QB situation at the moment, a supporting cast of WR/TE that are aging, can't stay healthy, and slightly unproven for some of them. I have a very tempered enthusiasm for him.

Hi tbbucs,MOP is trying to help and be constructive. We WANT insight and news here, but we want to make sure it is news and not speculation. That's why many want a link - because then they'll act quickly in their hardcore FF leagues.

You shouldn't feel that way at all. I just was having fun doing the recap.

I haven't gotten out to Westminster, but I've talked to many who have and kept up on the Ravens.

McGahee is banged up, but so is the offensive line. They just signed another back I think as a camp body (or so I heard, didn't check the depth chart) just to alleviate Rice's workload.

The concern is not about McGahee or Rice as for production - the concern is twofold. First, the O-line is looking bad and already injured. Second, unless the QB situation gets resolved and the passing game keeps D's honest, expect 8 in the box against either back.

Agree on all accounts. You really have to wonder whats going to happen if they dont get the OL situated.

How does McGahee's situation at all differ from LJ's though, and people are high on LJ who is coming back from injury as well??? That is what I really don't understand.

I'm not that sold on LJ either - but LJ's done more in a season than McGahee so he gets a nod.It is very close for me between the two and I'd be sweating both situations.

I guess, but there seems to be a fairly substantial discrepancy in how the two are being valued and I don't see that much difference between them imo. Both will get a lot of touches. Both have suspect OLines, suspect passing/QB situations, both have injury concerns...LJ has done more in the past, but McGahee is two years younger iirc...

I don't remember where, but the report on McGahee was "swelling down, but fluid on the knee". I would call that an injury concern.

I have Ray Rice (not Mcgahee_ but this injury has not even made a neuron blink yet. He coud probably play if he had to. Lets not start jumping around when McGahee never even reported to have an MRI done.

Don't be hatin' on Hart

how many carries is the starting RB really going to get in game 1 of the preaseason anyway? 2? he'll play the first series and be done. no big deal in my opinion. worth keeping an eye on though for sure.

True...but, Cam Cameron worked magic with the lousy Miami O-line and last season - Ronnie Brown was on a tear until he broke down - there are plenty of reasons to be cautiously optimistic about McGahee in 2008..

i admitted there is some injury concern with mcgahee, but also with LJ coming off a foot injury
Alll reports so far are that LJ looks 100% and has no lingering affects from the foot injury. So it really shouldn't be factored in at all at this point IMO. McGahee has a current injury right now, that IS a concern. Not a major one yet, but one none the less. Add in that Rice has looked fantastic in camp so far and will get more of a chance to show what he can do with the first team, and Rice could end up winning himself a larger share of the carries than what he was currently slated for.

Ailing knee may keep Ravens' McGahee out of preseason opener

Associated Press

WESTMINSTER, Md. -- Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee might miss Thursday's preseason opener against the New England Patriots because of an ailing left knee, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Sunday.

"Right now, we need to get the fluid out of his knee and get that thing settled down a little bit," Harbaugh said.
