McKinnie suspension? (1 Viewer)

How would this affect AP?

Artis Hicks is expected to replace Bryant McKinnie as the Vikings' starting left tackle if McKinnie is suspended for being a repeat offender of the NFL's personal conduct policy.

SI's Paul Zimmerman probably should've considered this potential disaster before making the Vikings his preseason Super Bowl pick. Hicks, a 6'4/335-pound guard, is unlikely to be near as potent as McKinnie versus speedy edge rushers. And there are several good ones in the NFC North.

I find this practically impossible to believe. McKinnie has to be near the worst tackle in the league vs. speed rushers.

I agree, but he is good for the run game. I am thinking he is gone the first two weeks of the year, not a huge deal though for AD either way imo.

Hicks started in '06 14 games, Chester averaged 4 YPC over the course of 300 carries. I think Adrian Peterson won't be impacted so dramatically for the duration of a McKinnie suspension.

A suspension would not be good but it would not be terrible either. Despite what many non-homers believe, McKinnie is a big dude that's not lived up to his potential. I agree that it would hurt the running game a little but not enough to get worked up about.

It might actually be a good thing going against Indy in Week 2 to have someone else lined up against Freeney (as BigJim stated, McKinnie sucks against speed rushers).

It depends if it hurts the running or passing game more,

and how that affects the play calling.

Run more, helps run.

Pass more, helps pass.

The opposing defenses' expectations won't change.

I expect a big drop-off with Hicks in both the run game and the pass game. I think the suspension will be at least 4 weeks, but could be more since it's a second offense. The rest of the line (mainly Hutch) will have to step up with Hicks in.

 This is exactly the case. Mount McKinnie moves as slow as a mountain glacier against speed. I personally think that Hicks will not wind up being the starter at LT. Hicks is a backup that they can bring in at multiple positions if there is an injury during the game. I wouldn't be surprised to see them try Marcus Johnson at LT (he is 2nd string RT) or Chase Johnson (current backup) during training camp and find a better fit.
