McNabb Trade Rumor du jour (1 Viewer)

Donovan McNabb-QB-Eagles Mar. 24 - 4:18 pm et Brian Stull of ESPN 101 disputes a rumor that the Rams have traded the No. 33 pick to Philadelphia in exchange for Donovan McNabb.Stull calls the rumor, which originated from a New York radio station, "incorrect, or at least premature." However, Philadelphia station 97.5 has also apparently gone public with the report, although we're unable to confirm it. Acquiring McNabb would presumably take St. Louis out of the running for Sam Bradford. McNabb, entering his age-34 season, would also require a multi-year extension, in addition to the premium draft choice.
This is interesting to me. Seems like a quick dispute for a rumor that isn't very old. Who is Brian Stull?

I would think the Rams might then try to trade the #1 to the Skins or Browns or somebody that wants Bradford and get back a 2nd to replace the one they traded for McNabb and still get a good player in the top 10. Could work out great for them if they could pull it off.
Why would the skins trade up? If StL doesn't take Bradford, the Lions or TB aren't likely too as they both have young QBs already. So I can't see either of them taking him. So he would likely fall to the skins anyways. Now Clev is another story.

You just answered your own question. If Wash love Bradford and they want to make sure they get him, they trade up so that a team can't jump in front of them.

I agree that the Skins would be an unlikely team to trade up unless they are worried that the Browns are trying to get ahead of them to take Bradford and even then the new regime probably values having picks unlike the Skins of the past that traded all their picks. The money involved may prevent a team from making a move, but Holmgren and the Browns might just be desperate enough for a QB to make it happen.

PFT has something on it, and included this:

That rumor heated up today, as Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic in Philly was discussing it on the air. He eventually pointed out that Chris Mortensen of ESPN had informed him via text that he had checked out the story with both parties, and that there's nothing to it.

I don't think teams pre-emptively trade up. Let me know if you have evidence of the contrary.

There is a ton of evidence of that. Teams have made trades to move up 1 spot before.

The Eagles did it last year because there were rumors of the NYG trying to trade up to get Maclin.

Sal Pal saying he has not been traded. But the Eagles have been talking to the Rams & Bills about McNabb and Kolb in the last 48 hours.

McNabb trade talk heats up

Posted by Mike Florio on March 24, 2010 4:38 PM ET

A day after Eagles coach Andy Reid told the media that teams are "entertaining us with offers" for the various quarterbacks on the roster, evidence is emerging of teams interested in starter Donovan McNabb.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports reports that the Bills and the Raiders have inquired regarding McNabb's availability. Per Robinson, McNabb would favor a trade to a team with a contending roster, like the Cardinals.

Also, persistent rumors have been making the rounds of the Eagles trading McNabb to the Rams for the first pick in the second round of the 2010 draft.

That rumor heated up today, as Mike Missanelli of 97.5 The Fanatic in Philly was discussing it on the air. He eventually pointed out that Chris Mortensen of ESPN had informed him via text that he had checked out the story with both parties, and that there's nothing to it.

Still, the move makes sense. If no one is offering a first-round pick and if the Eagles are intent on getting the best deal they can for McNabb, the first pick in round two would be the best possible deal. Now that the draft is spread out over three days, with the second round starting on Friday after after the first round finishes on Thursday night, the team that holds the first pick when the draft reconvenes holds a lot of power. Players that other teams covet will have slipped through round one, and there will be an extended time period for the team that has the next pick to do a great deal.

Of course, the Rams would have to want McNabb -- and they'd have to be willing to give up the second overall pick and the power that goes along with it. At this point, it's looks like it won't happen.

Which means it probably will by the weekend.

McNabb to the Rams on the table

ORLANDO -- Donovan McNabb could be in a Rams uniform by the end of the day, possibly by the end of the week.

The Eagles have an offer on the table that would give them St. Louis' second-round draft pick (33d overall) in exchange for McNabb. That deal, however, is "not yet completed," according to a league source.

McNabb would be willing to go to the Rams if he was given a contract extension, according to a source close to the situation. He would not be willing to play for Buffalo or Oakland, two moribund franchises that might be willing to take McNabb without an extension.

McNabb has publicly stated that he wants to remain with the Eagles and retire with the only organization he has played for. McNabb released a blog post earlier today after coach Andy Reid said for the first time publicly that the Eagles were entertaining offers for McNabb and their three quarterbacks.

"I was asked to respond to statements made at the NFL owners meetings that the Eagles would entertain offers to trade any of their three QBs," McNabb wrote. "Here is my response: My position hasn't changed. I've said all along that I would like to win a Super Bowl and finish my career in Philadelphia.

"I understand the situation well and just hope whichever direction the Eagles decide to go in, they do it quickly. I think that would be best for me, Kevin [Kolb], Michael [Vick], the Eagles, and any other teams involved. No matter what happens, I've already begun preparing to have an outstanding season in 2010."

A trade could happen quickly.

The Eagles had no comment. Owner Jeffrey Lurie, coach Andy Reid and general manager Howie Roseman returned back to Philadelphia today after this week's NFL owners' meetings. Team president Joe Banner is still here.

McNabb, meanwhile, hasn't spoken to Reid in months, according to one source. While Reid said that the Eagles were listening to offers for all three of their quarterbacks, McNabb is the most likely to be dealt and be dealt soon. He has spent most of the off-season at his home in Arizona.

Rams offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was previously McNabb's quarterbacks coach with the Eagles. Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo was a defensive coach under Reid.

If this becomes true I think the Vikings will be kicking themselfs for not getting involved in this situation and letting Favre lull them into doing nothing. Waiting on a 40 year old QB to deceide what he wants to do when a proven winner at 33 years old that has full knowledge of your offense is available for a 2nd and probably a 4th or 5th because your 2nd is so low is carzy to me. Donovan has 4 or 5 good years left. I know there has been alot of bashing of him, but the guy wins games and gets his team to the playoffs. Thats all you can hope for, a shot in the playoffs and hope your uber stud RB doesn't fumble every other drive.

If true, I think Avery and L.Robinson should get HUGE bumps
From the passes bouncing at their feet?
:(
McNabb is the John Stockton of the NFL.
At least the Utah fanbase appreciated him...the grass ain't always greener. McNabb is a better man than me; I would have found my first oppy out of town and signed with an NFC East team, just to shove it up your arses two times a year.

this is spicy. its been a pretty dull couple of weeks following the initial bum rush of free agency. it's nice that we finally have something big happening again! ah the excitement!

no way the vikes could get him for that imo, they would want at the very least our first rounder

I'm going to throw up in my mouth if all we get for 5 is a 2nd rounder :wall:
Funny... I almost threw up in my mouth when I heard this trade story was erroneous.
Me too. I can't wait for McNabb to be traded so all of the Eagles fans who have no clue how good they've had it for the past decade can watch a borderline-bad team for the next decade while they try and find another franchise QB.

I fear that's :wall:I'm stunned at how many of my fellow Eagles fans just assume Kolb will be BETTER than a guy that's been as successful as McNabb has been. It astounds me. No sense of historical context IMHO.
