On bad exchanges it's a toss up sometimes on who gets penalized. That's just the way it goes.

Did you see the play?The OP is right. Typically if there's a botched handoff (and that's essentially what this play was since Mendy never really had possession), the fumble is accredited to the QB... like with Kolb and Beanie on that pitch. You can't fumble what you never received. That said, it's kind of like an error in baseball where it's up to the scorer to decide and even considering to appeal to Elias (particularly in only week 1) is totally dooshy and deserves a hardy Haaaw-Haaaaw and a

I feel you on this as it has negatively effected one of my games. BUT if the recipient does not get charged for the fumble, then why should Ben? Its an exchange/handoff that either party could be responsible for. If a pass goes off the hands of a receiver and into a defenders, why should the QB be charged with that interception? The same logic applies here as well IMO.

There are a lot of weird rules like that in the NFL that just are there for ease of score keeping..

Stat corrections typically come out on Thursday morning. If you're playing on MFL, your commissioner then has the option to use these stats and correct scoring. Typically most corrections are tackles being passed among defenders, and rushing yards/sacks being re-distributed. There could certainly be a change though, as it was quite obvious the fumble started with Ben and no control was ever really established before he doinked it off of Mendy.

My solution: Don't play in a league with negatives.

When a Receiver is hit in the hands/chest with a pass and drop it, it's their fault.

When a Back has the handoff placed squarely in his chest and he drops it, it's his fault.

i just watched the fumble frame by frame. i'll guess that mendenhall will retain the fumble even tho he never had it, ben had already pulled his hand away when the defender smashed into mendenhall preventing him from securing the handoff.

This is a funny thread...however if the RB never had possesion then the QB is credited with the fumble. The RB is supposed to make a pocket and grasp the ball while keeping his eyes and head up. It is up to the QB to put the ball in that pocket and to make sure he has the ball before letting go. I have not seen the play yet but from what I am reading I suspect this will be changed to a Big Ben fumble.

EDIT to add that I went and watched the play and now I am more convinced that this will get changed. Mendy never had the ball at any time.

I honestly don't know the answer as to why they credit the QB but I do know for certain that when the RB never has possesion of the football on a handoff the QB is credited with the fumble. I don't make the rules.
