MERGED: Possible 17-Game Schedule (1 Viewer)

Seriously, as a football fan, wouldn't it be great to have the league go two bye weeks for each team and expand their total game play out further. The only negatives I can see is .........

What if we played all the games in the states, but in the pre-game warm-ups the players wear funny hats designed to impress the country that we're trying to gain fans in?

Why does anyone have the notion that the current schedule is balanced? All teams in a given conference are competing for playoff spots. Yet they play very different schedules. Maybe I'm confusing balanced with fair or equitable.

I have posted in the past that a logical move that would create a fairer schedule IMO is to move to an 18 game schedule. In that case, each team would play its 3 division opponents twice and each other team in its conference once. No playing the other conference until the Super Bowl. This would make playoff competition much fairer, as all opponents would be common, and it would preclude us from Super Bowl rematches, in which the teams already played earlier in the season.

I would do this by eliminating 2 preseason games, or maybe even 3, without replacing the third one, as a bonus to the players. However, there is a problem with making one of these two extra regular season games a neutral site game... it means half of the teams would end up with one more home game than the others... unless they made the other extra game also a neutral site game, whether in country or out.

I'd suggest 2 preseason game, with one possibly outside the U.S., and 18 regular season games. I suspect people will say the teams can't be ready, can't determine who to cut, etc. I disagree. If they have a different schedule, they will adjust to it and be ready.
