MFL IDP scoring question: need help! (1 Viewer)

Need help:

We play in an IDP league. From 2006 to 20010, we gave 4 points for a qb sack. Then, in 2011, we gave 2 points for tackle for loss...and dropped qb sacks to 2 points because after a careful examination of nfl gamebooks - we determined ALL sacks were considered tackles for loss.

This worked in 2011 and 2012.

The problem after week one is that now not all sacks are being given credit for TFL. For instance, Robert Quinn DE Rams had 3 sacks but 1 tackle for loss. We've seen this with other players as well.

Does anyone know why?

my gut tells me it must have something to do with a strip sack/fumble. When a defensive player forces a fumble vs a qb, they get credit for a sack.

for the past 2 seasons, ALL of these types of plays gave qb sack and TFL points.

however, this year...in NFL gamebook....it shows 3 sacks for Quinn but 1 TFL.

Noticed this after Sunday's games, and worked with MFL Support to resolve the issue. TFL's are no longer awarded for sacks by MFL's stats provider - evidently this was a change to correspond with new NFL stats rules.

A sack will still accrue a tackle in most cases, but will not accrue a TFL.

You simply need to change your league scoring for sacks by adding back the 2 points that the TFL would have automatically scored for the sack.

The TFL for Quinn was a separate tackle aside from his 3 sacks. Once you add back the 2 points for sacks, your scoring will be correct for all players.

MFL also assured me that this scoring will remain in effect for the entire 2013 season. Hope this helps.

I appreciate the answer, but It isn't correct. Here's why:

MFL gave DE George Selvie credit for 1 tackle. it was a sack. and it was credited as a tackle for loss.

I find other instances of this as well.

After doing more research today, I've actually found the problem to be NFL Gamebook.

Check out the nfl gamebook for SEA/CAR. Charles Godfrey had a sack for 13 yards. not TFL credited. Charles Johnson had a sack for 7 yards. no TFL granted.

However, there is proof that TFL are still being credited on sacks...but just about on half of them it seems.

again, thanks for the information...but from what I see...that isn't accurate info about MFL.

Dang, you may be right - have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out and thought it was solved. Do me a favor, and please update this topic when and if you find out how we can fix this for certain. I imagine there are a ton of IDP leagues out there right now with invalid scores and results.

Thanks again.

Thanks, Mikey B. I will report if I found out what is causing the error and if it can be corrected.

Our league is looking at having to remove the 2 point bonus for each tackle for loss because of the indiscriminate awarding of them.

Please be aware that the NFL has changed the way that it scores a SHARED sack (1/2 sack awarded to one player, 1/2 sack awarded to one player).

From MFL"...the bottom line is that our stats provider has changed the way TFL's are scored this year in our feed, and apparently it is a change to match how the NFL scores a TFL in the official stats."

So here's how I understand it: Tackles for Loss are only awarded on a solo tackle behind the line of scrimmage. So if a sack is shared between two players, then both players get 1/2 sack, but neither player gets a TFL. Also, if a player sacks a QB and it results in a fumble, then that player will get a sack, but not a TFL.

I believe this is the answer to what's going on. Hope it helps.
