Miami Dolphins Rookie Camp report according to Drew Rosenhaus (1 Viewer)

Ministry of Pain

I think everything will hinge on what you think of Rosenhaus. I am not sold on him as a talent evaluator, however he had some very eye opening answers to some questions. One of the stations down here in South Florida has him on every week for their "Sunday Night Wrap" show and tonight for whatever reason I tuned in as I wanted to learn more about what the Dolphins were doing.

1. Jake Long: "Safest bet in this draft, Miami has their LT for the next 10 years." I have heard this all before, nothing new here. Till I see him take the field and play, I will never be sold that he was the most talented player in the draft but whatever.

2. Jason Taylor: Now I find this part rather disturbing. I am one of those people that feels Miami could be competitive in 2 years...not a SB contender but simply competitive, like they might be able to win almost any week and teams are not looking forward to facing them...you know, competitive. But Drew stated that Taylor is all but gone and even though a deal could not be worked out before or during the draft that there are several teams that would talk seriously about parting with a pretty high pick in the 2009 draft to acquire Jason Taylor. Drew went on to say that the relationship between Taylor and the Miami Dolphins is terrible right now, and he wants out of here ASAP. Now I don't like this because I feel Taylor is top5 at his position if not top3 and while his shelf life may not be long he still is in great shape and 3-4 more years is not out of the question. While his skills coule erode, he probably will still be awfully good, and could really help Miami. The Dolphins drafted a lot of DL including Sterling, they can't all be on the roster so Jason will be traded prior to training camp...those are Drew's words.

3. Shawn Murphy: Likely going to start for Miami. So the OL is shaping up to look like this. LT-Long, LG-J.SMiley, C-Satele, RG-Murphy, RT-V.Carey...and they have a lot of competition for the back up jobs with some wiggle likely for the starters as well. Murphy runs under a 5 seconds in his 40 time, 1 of only 2 in the draft at his position so he is pretty athletic. Carey is a bit of a finese guy as well so the OL is going to be interesting and of course Sporano is an OL Coach form Dallas so you can expect he will get the most out of this bunch. And no i am not comparing them to the Dallas Cowboys OL...not even close.

4. Chad Henne: Rosenhaus thinks he will start for Miami this season. I have looked at Henne in his new uniform and I gotta say just form the looks alone, this guy looks like he was made to play the position. I am not going to bash John Beck but I have to think having Long protect his blind side just like he did in college...gotta be fun for Henne to be in Miami right now.

Sorry, I don't have any written links here or video to pull form but I though Phins fans would be interested in some of this. He also mentioned the Bess kid at WR but he already has hisown thread going so no need to keep hyping a possession WR. He mentioned the other one form Purdue as well, said there was some off the field issues but that he should have been drafted.

I'm not a Phins fan - far from it but thanks for posting - always important to hear a word from any phase of camp - rookie, full or what have you.

The Taylor thing isn;t a shock. Even with it not happening at the draft - he's been out the door for a while.

I don't much like Rosenhaus, I don't think much of his methods and I don't know what to think of his evaluations as the only ones I would expect him to make are ones that regard cash income. But any info is worth listening too, even if nothing he said is completely earth shattering.

I don't like the idea of a rookie QB starting behind a OL with 2 rookies, the other 3 aren't all-pro caliber either. I always wonder if fierce rivals make good teammates, Henne to Ginn will give many fans in the midwest nightmares.

Satele was awesome as a rookie last season...Ronnie Brown was tearing it up on the ground and that was with no passing game. I understand the concern of 2 rookies on the OL, but you know that Long who we have $57 million ties up in is going to start. Smiley has been around for 4 years in SF, Satele I just talked about, Murphy is a rookie, and Carey will finally shift over to where he was strong coming out of college at the U. Long way to go bu remember their is some fierce competition and Sporano is an OL coach so I think the absolute 5 best Miami can muster is who is going to start. I am not as worried about the OL, what I worry about is our lack of skills positions in the receiving department.

(IF Taylor's gone)I'd be most concerned about losing Taylor and Thomas. The negative impact of that could be real high. Seems like those two have been there forever.

Whole heartedly agree, however the flip side to that would mean Miami is going to have to score a lot of points to stay competitive...just something to ponder.

Out of curiousity: everything I hear about the MIA QB situation is the competition between Beck and Henne. No one seems to view JMcCown as the starter -- I'm not suggesting that McCown is the long-term answer, but I'd have to imagine he'll be the starter this year. Thoughts?

Rosenhaus on the Dolphins, eh? This is like the fox predicting which hens will lay the most eggs. This interview seems to have more to do with self-promotion by Rosey (shocker, I know) than it does anything relating to insider information.

I though McCown would be the starter too and I liked his upside but apparently they want to go young. I don't understand the McCown signing...if anyone checks out the game logs for McCown when he played in AZ...it will get your attention.

I'm taking Brown's success as more indicative of his talent than the OL. After Brown got injured, they had 3 decent weeks of running, but 6 weeks where they failed to get more than 86 yards on the ground. If their line was strong, they shouldn't have lost as much. From what I saw, the line could run block ok for Brown, but they weren't great as pass protection, not too consistent anyway. That's a concern with an immobile rookie QB. In time I think the OL can be very good, Parcells knows how to put it together, but I have concerns with Henne starting this year (even though I did draft him in one league).
