Michael Bennett (1 Viewer)

Dunn is out. Gruden seems to like Graham at FB. Bennett is healthy and ready to play a grudge game against his old team. Could be a deep deep 1 week wonder. Bennett never amount to anything in KC but showed some flashes of brillance in Minny, and he iswas lightning fast.

(SIC) covered in another thread

My starting RB trio this week is Cedric Benson, Kevin Faulk, and Leon Washington...and even I'm not that desperate!!!

And didn't Grahama lose a fumble on his first play?

I guess I need to pencil in a big fat Zero by Bennett's name - thanks Adam Sheffter :goodposting:

Not sure where the thread went that said he was starting but he didn't it was a lie
Adam Shefter said he was
It's such bull####. Yet another one of many erroneous reports by NFLN.
The moderators should have changed the thread title to include "Adam Shefter of NFL network reports..." Really amateurish to allow it to happen like it did.
Yeah, even better FBGs should clutter up everything they say with a list of A,B,C say this but D,E,F haven't confirmed it yet.

This was one of the most horrendous "he's starting" claims ever. Bennett saw, like, 2 snaps. Not only did he not start, he hardly played.

Where in the #### did Shefter get this garbage?

I picked him up and started him after finding out Lamont was out. One of my many bad moves during this season. I used to be real good at this game.

Yeah, me too. I plugged him in place of Ray Rice when I heard that McGahee was active and "starting" and that Dunn was out and supposedly Bennet was "starting."

One of your bad moves based on AWFUL reporting by NFLN. They were reporting that McGahee was starting this morning, and they were the ones to announce the Bennett debacle.

I'm not sure why he didn't get a few carries? From Grudens quotes last week it sounded like he was going to get some decent time. Not sure what happened...

Gruden's a doosh. He's done this before. I can't remember with whom, but I don't believe a word he says, anymore.

Here is what Pewter Report had to say,

With Dunn out, that meant more work for backup Michael Bennett in theory. Bennett got his first carry on third-and-2 at the Kansas City 5-yard line. Bennett caught the pitch and was tentative as he two Chiefs approached. Instead of running decisively, the hesitating Bennett was tackled for a loss of two yards. Bennett got another carry in the second quarter, and ran the ball for three yards. As the game went on late, the Bucs used backup Clifton Smith more than Bennett.

Unfortunately for Tampa Bay, Smith caught his first pass and fumbled the ball after getting hit by Chief Tyron Breckenridge. Turk McBride recovered the fumble. Fortunately for Smith, Kansas City turned the ball back over on their possession. That set Tampa Bay up on the Chiefs 3-yard line. Graham took a handoff and faked the run, only to throw a touchdown pass to tight end Alex Smith.

Even after the fumble, Clifton Smith got some carries late in the game as Graham was spelled. He ran the ball three times for 17 yards, and he had a 10-yard run on the Bucs final drive of regulation that forced overtime.
IMO, there are several possible scenarios that unfolded here today.-Michael Bennet's indecisiveness on his first carry was a big enough mistake for Gruden to not play him.

This is what JG said earlier this week,

Tampa Bay RB Michael Bennett has only been active for four games this season while Earnest Graham and Dunn have carried the load in the running game, but that could change due to Dunn's injury.

Gruden suggested Thursday that Bennett, who had an impressive preseason, could receive some playing time vs. Kansas City, where he played from 2006-07 before being traded to Tampa Bay midway through last season.

"Yes, it's possible [that Bennett will play]," said Gruden. "There's a chance you will see some of Mike Bennett this week. Like a lot of guys in pro football, you have to make the most of your opportunities. I know he's prepared to play well and hopefully he does if we need him."
:lmao: maybe he didn't play well...-Bennet made some comments earlier in the season regarding not dressing, and since he played RB so much in pre-season he couldn't practice ST. Gruden doesn't like guys opening their mouths, so maybe he is in the dog house? Athough, not sure how many chances the guy got to shine with just 2 carries. I would hate to believe Bennet could have done something bad enough in his two opportunities to warrant him not seeing the field again. JG has stuck with guys like Clayton in the past, even after they suck all game. If he was in the dog house I doubt Gruden would say he was going to use him, and then barely do so.

-Maybe Michael Bennet just sucks, or Gruden thought a harder runner like Clifton Smith was better against KC.

;)

Hopefully, someone asks him about it at his PC tomorrow.

Again, this all just begs the question: Who gave the crack pipe to Adam Schefter, then?

I saw the first play and no matter who was running that play was going no where. It wsa a pitch out with maybe one blocker and two defenders coming his way.Anyways FU Sheffler

Is this gamesmenship by Gruden? Is he the next Shanahan? Declare a starter but then do not play him. It happened with McGahee yesterday. Active but not starting...did he even play?

One of your bad moves based on AWFUL reporting by NFLN. They were reporting that McGahee was starting this morning, and they were the ones to announce the Bennett debacle.
What I've learned from this past weekend: If a running back doesn't practice much all week, and as late as Friday he's still "questionable," it's probably best to sit him no matter what you hear on Sunday morning (e.g. McGahee, S.Jackson).

Bennett is who we thought he was.

Sympathies to those of you that were hoodwinked. Most likely Adam was playing against a guy with Bennett on his roster. Jerk!

Bennett's problem has always been that he tries to bounce it outside. His speed allowed this to work for him in college, but not in the NFL. Maybe Gruden and the coaching staff talked to him about the bouncing outside stuff and they stressed before that they want him to cut up field. Thus, the play where he got tackled for 2 yd loss showed Gruden that it was the same ol same ol Bennett. Thus, he wasn't going to put him in any other situation to hurt them.

There's no evidence that Gruden declared Bennett the starter. The only source is Schefter.
Correct.http://blogs.nfl.com/2008/11/02/tampa-bays...ake-trip-to-kc/
And Schefter's blog doesn't even confirm that Bennett was starting -- it only says that he was "expected to start".Did Schefter ever say that Bennett would start??

Yes, 11:55AM NFL Network TV

If Graham's knee injury keeps him out for awhile Bennett may see increased PT. However, in OT MB was hardly used - if he was in at all. Anyone see the game and can comment on this? I have no desire to see the game log.

Roto:

Chargers claimed Michael Bennett off waivers from the Bucs, according to NFL Network's Adam Shefter. It's an odd fit, but the Bolts knew Denver was desperate for a running back and decided to block them. Denver indeed put in a claim, meaning Tatum Bell's stay with the team could have been brief. Instead, Bennett will rot on the Chargers bench.

Bennet should consider sending fruit baskets to the Chargers front office. He may not play a down in SD, but at least his luggage is safe.
