Michael Smith: Patriots offered conditional 3rd rnd pick for Moss (1 Viewer)

ESPN's Michael Smith just mentioned that the New England Patriots have offered the Raiders a conditional 3rd round pick (I believe in 2008) for Randy Moss.

Al Davis is still working the phones to see if he can get more.

Smith also reported there is another team involved.

I still doubt the Patriots will bring him in.

I dont think the Pats have the money so they would have to have already worked out a restructuring with Moss. Should be interesting.

According to local radio Moss has agreed to rework his contract to get out of Oakland + come to the Patriots or Green Bay.I also find it interesting that GB just picked a wr in the third round. Does that mean they are out of the Moss sweepstakes?

Interesting. From a 2005 interview with the late David Halberstam who wrote a book about Bill Belichick:

JM: You mentioned ego. Tell me about that in the context of Belichick.

DH: If Bill could get Randy Moss or Terrell Owens for $1.5 million a year, he would not do it. If one player takes up too much oxygen, it is not good. He looks for players who accept the concept of team. Bill, himself, has a tremendous ego, but it manifests itself in the concept of team. He learned from his father and other mentors that the team depends on him to lead them. He takes this responsibility very seriously.

From Reiss's Pieces (Boston.com):

The Patriots must feel there is nothing on the board in this draft at all. What does this mean for the Moss deal? The Raiders just took Johnnie Lee Higgins in the third round. I am 100% convinced Moss is out of Oakland. I don't know where he is going, but he is gone.According to reports the Moss deal would be a conditional 3rd round pick in 2008.

Any guesses on who this third team might be? I just dont see NE doing anything for Moss. What if SD somehow managed to get him? They would be a nightmare to defend, and its not easy without him. Still believe in the right spot he can get back to the elite level for 2-3 more years. Might have to be the perfect spot for that to happen, but you never know.
