Mike and the Mad Dog show (Not Done!) (2 Viewers)

I didn't realize Mike was doing a special last Sunday show (from Mulcahy's) today until it was close to over. Mic'd up his kids (no pun intended) at the end. Kind of sweet. He said he couldn't imagine not doing something football-related on Sundays in the future. Don't know if something is in the works that can't be mentioned yet or he was just talking.

A thousand years ago there was an HBO real sports thing on fantasy football and they interviewed a bunch of FBGs, one of whom had like 10 TVs set up to watch games

Who was that
most I've had was three... but 8 games on the large one. :youth:

@Raider Nation did you supple WEEI with the clip of Mike they played yesterday afternoon? It was of the guy calling Mike, telling him his wife left him and his 3 boys. Mike was into it and the caller was saying listening to his show has helped him get over his wife leaving and it has helped his boys. Mike asks if they all listen to the show in the car together. The guy goes "yes, we do. In fact, the other day we had you on and I turned to the boys and told them Mike is your mom now".

:lmao:

i nearly pissed myself

This afternoon show is brutal.  Thank god Joe and Evan at least go to 2p.  No way this new trio lasts thru baseball season.  Just a generic non national, non ny show.
I really enjoy Joe and Evan so I don't get the hate for them. Benigno has a memory like nobody else when it comes to sports. Thing is I'm not even a New Yorker, I listen down here in Maryland and prefer the Fan to our options, sans Rich Eisen.

What hate for Joe and Evan? Most people love them. They should've got Mike's slot

So dumb to introduce a new, unproven crew into that slot. No chance they last.

A few guys in this thread have said they don't like J&E, also I agree, they should have gotten Mike's slot
Joe and Evan said yesterday that the station asked them which time slot they preferred, and they said they wanted to stay in the midday slot. I believe that Joe wanted no part of the afternoon drive because he’s older and wants to spend as much time as possible on the golf course. I can’t imagine that Evan didn’t want Mike’s spot though. And yes, this new trio is about as boring as I expected. I’ll listen from 2-3 since the alternative is Screamin’ A Smith, but I’ll be listening to Michael Kay mostly after that.

yeah, seems like joe and evan had the choice.  I wouldn't want to work till 6.30p either.  carlin is brutal and he is the best of the 3 somehow.  heck, I'd die for kim jones and jody mac about now.  if evan really wanted drive time, they should've split evan and joe up and found new partners.

Joe and Evan are fine, and if I'm driving and don't feel like listening to music or Sirius, they'll work in a pinch. Problem is, you need to be really good these days for me to stick to a show through all those terrible commercials, and they don't cut it.

I was a big Boomer and Carton guy and found that I watched them on CBS SN way more than I listened to them for the same reason. I'd watch for a bit as I was getting ready for work but only watched/listened in longer stretches on days when I was working from home, because I'd DVR the show and FF through the commercials.

The end result is there may be 10 people on the planet who ever think "I gotta hear what Joe/Evan/Carlin/Bart effing Scott/Maggie Gray" say about this. Mike & MD have the personalities to drive that, and it was built for most people out of 20 years of habit when this was really all we had to listen to.

I remember when I was a kid, on days I was home sick from school, grabbing my dad's radio and listening to the entire show as I sat in my room playing video games. I feel like if a 10 year old wanted to do that in 2017/2018 with the new show they should be evaluated by their school psychologist.

you are still in ny.  think about these shows for displaced nyers.  it helps keep us attached to the day to day feel of the fans.  lord knows, nc has HS sports on the evening news.

Unfortunately for someone like me, I’m on the road all day and the radio is my only source of entertainment. Mike being gone really sucks.

Dan Bernstein and Jason Goff, WSCR 670 AM Chicago. Great social justice/sports radio topics everyday. Outrage over the blackballing of Colin, Ron Rivera and Cam Newton supporting Mr.Richardson, all sorts of racism charges mixed into sports conversation, and, of course, inside information that only these two have on the Chicago sports scene and beyond.

Give it a listen, 1-6 PM CT, M-F.

man tough to see 1pm and no Mike to break down/discuss the weekend games.....he's been off the grid completely as far as I've seen.....not even speculation as to his next gig...bummer

no - i guess ive missed it....where has he been and whats the speculation on the next gig?
No speculation that I've heard (yet) on next gig, but he's been appearing on Bill Simmons' podcast giving his football picks every Friday for the past few weeks.  Still mum on his next endeavor up to this past week's appearance - I don't know if he spilled any beans on the most recent one, I haven't had a chance to listen yet.

I used to love when Mike was on vacation and they would take his time slot. I agree they should have gotten it permanently. I think the reason they probably didn't is that Joe is no spring chicken and they may fear that they'd need to search all over again in a few years.

I can't believe they couldn't do better than what they ended up with though. Crazy in this market.

Never thought I would want to hear Francesca, but these 3 are brutal to listen to.
For any group I would think it should take some time to gel.  But I think having 3 people was a mistake.

Boomer is the best thing they have going right now.  They should’ve given him the spot.  In fact, I think Boomer has such a good on-air presence that I’m surprised he wastes his time on WFAN at all.

I've resorted to listening to Kay on my drive home...

jesus, Kay sucks

WFAN’s new afternoon show averaged 4.4 percent of the radio audience and ranked sixth in the market among men ages 25-54 from 2 to 6:30 p.m. in its first month on the air, according to Nielsen Audio figures covering Jan. 4 through 31.

In the 3 ½ hours from 3 to 6:30 p.m. that the show is head-to-head against ESPN New York’s “The Michael Kay Show,” WFAN’s Chris Carlin, Bart Scott and Maggie Gray averaged a 4.3 share, tied for eighth in the key demographic. Kay was 12th at 3.5.

Both station’s numbers were down significantly from the fall ratings period, Mike Francesa’s last at WFAN. From October to December, Francesa ranked second with an average rating of 6.6 and Kay was fourth at 5.0.

Traditionally, radio ratings are judged by quarterly “books,” so the January figures should be considered merely a partial score, like the first intermission of a hockey game. The official winter book runs through March 28.

I like LaGreca and Rosenberg and I like how they are always busting on Kay. Kay himself is obnoxious. But at least that show doesn't make me fall asleep and drive off the side of the highway like the show on WFAN.

I'm really surprised by this.

The WFAN show seems horrible.  They replaced an icon with 3 no names. I assumed they would have tanked and Kaybwould have picked up a good chunk of the listeners.
The first month #s can be the curiosity factor. I read an article that said Kay's #s were better after January.
