Mike Anderson in balt (1 Viewer)

what do you think his role will be? how much will he affect Jamal?

here's a billick quote:

Gary Mihoces, of USA Today, reports Baltimore Ravens head coach Brian Billick has named RB Jamal Lewis the starter with RB Mike Anderson as the backup. However, that does not mean that Lewis will earn the majority of carries as Billick intends for Lewis, Anderson and RB Musa Smith to all be involved in the offense. Billick said, "I don't isolate starters, non-starters. It's about whoever is playing well. I don't have a distinct - Jamal is going to carry this many times. Mike and Musa (fourth-year man Musa Smith), they're all going to play. And I guess I've got to put someone out to start the game, and I guess that's technically the starter."

Given that Jamal jsut came off the PUP list, I'm not surprised about Billick's attitude. As for the actual results? I belive in JLew's talent, and expect him to be rejuvenated, especially now, with McNair and Mason reunited. What I don't expect is for Lewis to get 350+ touches. I'm thinking that the staff would like to keep him to between 280-320 touches for the season.

I expect that Mike Anderson will have something in the neighborhood of 150 touches, and I believe that they will have Anderson in for whole series, not just 3rd downs.

what about GL touches?Any chance they both play in the same backfield? Ricard's in Buff now, right?

Logically I think this is a return of Anderson to a fullback role. He was a great lead blocker and more than able to step in for a spell but most importantly there in case of injury.

I wouldn't adjust Jamal any more than I have (he's fairly low anyway IMO).

--so Jamal's got the goalline I'd asssssume and I'd assssume same backfield.

Jamal Lewis WILL be on my squad this year.

He's healthy, not distracted, and could have a legit passing game to take pressure off him.

IMO he's WAY underranked.

Unless he improves drastically from last season, I think Lewis is overrated. I expect Anderson to outperform him and earn the majority of the touches.

We were talking about this yesterday on the radio here in Baltimore.

There's still an open question as to how Jamal, Mike and even Musa will share the ball. MA was signed for a reason - we just don't know how much he'll contribute.

Musa Smith has had a lot of work early in camp.

We will all know more on the 5th in the scrimmage vs. the Redskins.

Musa Smith is reportedly pushing Mike Anderson

(Rotoworld) Musa Smith is reportedly pushing Mike Anderson for the backup role in Baltimore.

Impact: Considering the money Anderson received, it would be a surprise to see Smith pass him on the depth chart. Anderson owners shouldn't worry yet. Rookie P.J. Daniels will probably only be used on passing downs.

Who is the Ravens starting FB. Is that the bare minimum job Anderson could hold?

Billick's got some loyalty to Lewis no doubt, and for good reason. But at this stage of their careers I think Anderson's the better RB.

As a Jamal owner it pains me to say this, but I think Anderson could eventually take the job. However, this isn't the shangri-la of Denver and there's no way Jamal can be as bad this year as last. Even if he sucks, he has to improve upon last year. If he can't step it up he needs to quit and go home because he was brutal last season.

I think MA will get spot duty and will get GL carries early on. If Lewis falters, MA's role could expand. Just a guess at this point.

Like I said, we'll know more after the scrimmage.I think Jamal Lewis will get 275-300 carries, and MA will get 150-175. Musa Smith is a wildcard and could get 50-100 touches, but the question is where on the field he'll get those. It is also a question as to who will punch the ball in inside the 5.

I disagree on both. Chase, Lewis last year didn't look like he was the same back that ran for 2,000 yards in 2003, but I'm not going to toss him out of the equation after his first (and only) season rushing for under 4 YPC. He's still remarkably young (27 later this month) and has but 1508 carries so far in his career. The tank is far from empty for him.As for the passing game, I think that will open up the offense a little more and give Jamal more room inside. It's all speculation at this point, but that's how I see it right now.

:goodposting: I agree with this, Lewis will look more like the 2,000 yard back than the back of last year, but still somewhere in the middle.
