Mike Brown - JAX WR (1 Viewer)

If I may, the whole "garbage time" theory has really only worked for TEs. if you look at the good WRs, they tend to be on teams scoring lots of TDs during the competitive part of the game- i.e., on the better teams. this mike brown's 5/120 game was the first huge garbage-time game by a WR that caught my eye. but, really, i think the theory works best for TEs, since the other teams are in 6 DB packages.
Depends on the league type. Garbage time receivers are great assets in PPR leagues. See Vincent Jackson, Cecil Shorts, Andre Johnson this year, etc.

Apparently, some of you are super rooks in this game of orcas.

Little breakdown on Mike Brown last 3 weeks:

4/49 DEN

5/120 SD

3/42/1 SF

That's as WR3 on the team, playing approx 50% of snaps on average.

Wake up gentlemen... he's more than a bye week filler (unless you're stacked). This guy will be cracking lineups.
i agree. why isnt there more discussion on him?

I probably will put him in my lineup 3WR from Week 11 on, this week isn't a good matchup, TEN has not let up a WR TD in something like 6 weeks and nothing over 74 yards all year to a WR.

In my eternal search for a decent WR3, I'm plugging him in, even though Tennessee is more likely to be run upon. Someone has to catch the ball, situation seems to point to Brown...might as well test that theory

You guys are making it hard to release him! Was thinking of making a speculative addition of Nate Burleson, but now you guys are making me want to stick with him. Hrmm...

All right - who's on board for this week? Let's start the hype...

I'm strongly considering Mike Brown in my lineup over Nicks (inconsistent), White (matchup / injury), and Trent (need I really explain this one). I need a WR2 and a Flex from those four guys... good chance I'm going to find out what Brown can do for me.

God help me, I am thisclose to putting him in over Wallace, who will be wearing a finely tailored Revis suit Monday night.

But the Titans have a Top-5 pass defense, so.......

 Revis has been playing zone defense half the time, and the Bucs coaches are too stoopid to put him in man coverage and put anyone on Revis Island. Revis doesn't care. He's all about collecting his million dollar weekly paychecks. Yeah boss, whatever you say, just pay me.

Wallace is a target whore, and Brown isn't promised anything. If you need to take a flier, do so. But not over Wallace. That's just silly.

Revis has publically said that the reason he has been playing as much zone as he has is because he wasn't physically capable of playing man to man like in the past. As the season progresses and he gets healthier I think we will continue to see the trend change.

i thought id add the blurb rotoworlds evan silva thought about him this week:

Now facing Tennessee's top-seven pass defense without his beastly Z/slot receiver, Henne is barely a top-24 fantasy QB. The Titans have limited opponents to a combined 7:6 TD-to-INT ratio. ... The primary box-score beneficiary will be emerging Mike Brown, who had already earned 78.7% of Jacksonville's offensive snaps the past three weeks. He'll now be an every-down player, lining up as a motion man at Z and slot receiver. If Tennessee has a deficiency anywhere in the secondary, it's slot cornerback Coty Sensabaugh. Brown has a plus matchup, his playing time is on the rise, and he's going to benefit from pass-happy comeback mode just like Cecil Shorts and Blackmon before him. Brown is squarely on the WR3 radar this week. ... Rookie Ace Sanders has performed so poorly that Stephen Burton is more likely to play the old Brown role. Shorts (WR2) and Brown (WR3) are the Jaguars' only pass catchers worth standard-league consideration this week. Burton is worth a flier in 16-teamers.

I guess I'm silly then. I'm probably going to regret it, but I'm pulling the trigger. Just a strong gut feeling.

Excuse the double-negative, but there's nothing not to like with Brown now. He averaged 7 targets a game the last three games WITH Blackmon in the lineup. Now he has the #2 gig all to himself, on a team which throws the ball a ton because they are always behind. And what sealed it is reading that TB's defensive coordinator basically came out and said that Revis is gonna be stuck to Wallace all night. He held Tate and Steve Smith to garbage numbers the past two weeks playing press coverage. Also, Miami's awful O-line won't give Tannehill time to let any deep routes to Wallace develop.

If I did make the wrong decision, I at least feel confident that I had valid reasons for making it.

Incidentally, I was mesmerized by this video. Couldn't stop watching it. Brown as a college QB at Liberty.

You plainly see the elusiveness which translates so well to the run-after-catch skill set at the WR position. He makes a couple of dudes look flat-out stupid. And not just the other small schools.... he puts moves on the big boys too. His power and leg drive was surprising to me. He carried a few piles, which you wouldn't expect from a guy his size.

I'm keeping him on the bench today but am really looking forward to seeing what he does against the Titans. Could be some nice value down the stretch this season.

That is definitely what I am hoping. I dropped the Panthers defense to keep Brown, so hopefully that doesn't burn me.

Oh well. 6 points is definitely disappointing. But he looked good in space, as usual.

One thing that hurt was Jacksonville uncharacteristically having a lead all day.

Exactly! He'll be pretty useless if the Jags are actually competitive.
What an irony. I'll have to think about it next week to make sure it isn't a rash decision, but moving on from this guy is a definite possibility.

He was in for me because Gordon was on a bye. Still like his long-term potential though, if the Jags ever get a QB.

With Stevie Johnson potentially out again, I may need to plug him in at flex. Not thrilled about it, especially with a tough matchup vs Arizona, but I figure there's at least some decent upside there.

Well, Shorts will draw Patrick Peterson... so there's that.

Brown: 2-40-0

Wallace: 4-15-0

Looks like I won the tallest midget contest, 6 to 5.5!

Here's hoping that extra half point saved your bacon.

heres to hoping the jaguars get blown out

Just realized that if Stevie Johnson is out this week, my only alternative to Brown would be Coby Fleener, who plays tonight. Since Stevie is looking increasingly unlikely, but I'm not ready to commit to Fleener yet, I guess that means I'm Down with Brown this week!

If you are scared to use one of your regular WRs who are playing in the bad weather games tomorrow (BAL/CHI, NYJ/BUF, CLE/CIN), Brown is an interesting option. Patrick Peterson should shut down Cecil Shorts, and Jerraud Powers, Arizona's other starting corner "is near the bottom of Pro Football Focus’ coverage ratings and has allowed a 99.5 quarterback rating on passes thrown at him."

Brown may produce based on sheer volume alone. I may give him a start over Gordon or Jeffery if the weather in those games truly looks AWFUL prior to game time. Just something to keep in mind if you get in a jam.

Everyone's searching for plug`n`plays right now.

Cecil is GTD. If Cecil is out, Mike Brown steps to the fore for Jax.

He went 5/120/0 vs SD, 4/43/1 vs SF, but not much else.

No one has ever stepped in for that extra production with Blackmon out, it seems like Jax upped their run game in its place.
