Mike Goodson CAR RB (1 Viewer)

Any chance this is the guy from here on out this year? What is the prognosis on Stewart? Didn't they decalre him out pretty early in the week?

It's amazing what a starting RB can do when he is featured and isn't taken out for the next guy after every 8+ yard carry. (oh, and the situational formations that totally give away the play called). Saw this coming a mile away. This would be DeAngelo Williams if the coaching staff had 1 functioning brain cell and gave him 20 carriesa game like they are forced to do with Goodson.

I will add that they purposely tried to get Goodsen 100 yards. Panthers were running draws while the Ravens were playing back at the end of the game. Goodsen ran for about 40 yards on those draws in the last 3-4 plays. The panther were taking timeout with 1 minute left to get him the 100 yards. Still was a good game for Goodsen but on that team he will rarely ever have a TD chance unless he scores from 40 out and Stewart will be back possibly this week and its either 50/50 or stewart gets his job back ( Fox always goes with veterans, why stewart was always behind Williams). This could have been Goodsens last good game. all depends on Stewarts health.

It's astounding to me that a 4th stringer can get consistent work for a struggling team and do what Goodson has done, when Stewart and Williams have struggled so mightily. Goodson has everything stacked against him. Poor line play, no QB, no WRs that can stretch the field consistently, a lame duck coach and yet he's getting it done. VERY impressive.

It simply has to do with the RB getting in the rythym of the game. They refused to allow DeAngelo to do so. When he and Stewart ran for 1000 yards, both, for the most part, ran every play in the series they were in. This year, for some reason the coaching staff thought that it was a great idea to shuffle 3-4 RBs in and out of the game constantly depending on the down and distance. An obvious failure. ...and Goodson is a pretty damn good RB.

I agree , the 2 back system hurts alot of backs who need to get in a rythym. It will get messed up again when Stewart is back. It sucks but its the NFL. Also agree that Goodsen has talent. Hes not on Williams or Stewarts level and I think if they gave williams the commitment to carries he would have 150 yards rushing yesterday.

Maybe Goodson is better than Williams and Stewart? :goodposting:
I don't think this is the case, but I do wonder if it could lead to the team not trying to re-sign DeAngelo because they're comfortable moving forward with Stewart/Goodson.
This is whats frustrating. If they let Williams just walk and get nothing in return then they should have dealt him earlier in the year to try and recoup some lost draft picks. We could have at least gotten a 3rd for Williams and maybe a 2nd. Typical Panther management bungle.

Agreed. Dude looks good, but as FavreCo pointed out, a lot of it to has to do with rhythm. That being said, how healthy is Stewart for next week's game against the Browns?

No , hes not n the level of Williams or Stewart. Hes a good Rb with decent speed. thats about it. He has alot of negative plays and he has 3 fumbles in the alst 2 games. he has flaws. Again if the team didnt prposley take time out to get goodsen 100 yards he would have finnished under 100 and people wouldnt be so high on him, the 120 number makes it look better. They need stewart back. They cant play the rest of the year with 1 Rb. no team has 1 RB on the roster. Stewart must be close as they didnt even sign anyone.

depending on CBA and what DeAngelo signs for and FAs signed by Carolina you could get a comp pick maybe as high as a 3rd rounder.but I get your point

The smart move is to franchise Williams, then get what they can in a trade. He won't help this team now. He's 28 and they need to build around a younger team. I can't imageni that they screw that up....well other than asking for too much.

I wouldnt be so quick to dismiss his game. He definitely passes the eye test, and is a dual threat in PPR. Just hoping Stewart needs a bit more rest.

92 yards while still in the game vs Baltimore with no sign of a passing game is pretty good. Fumbles aren't.

Let's be honest, there's no chance the Panthers re-sign DeAngelo. Nor should they.
Honestly why should they. He is going to demand a kings ransom and he is getting older. Plus we have stewart that is cheaper and a new coach will probably want to get away from the john fox offense that is run based and open it up in the air more. That seems to be the trend in the NFL.They should have traded him, plain and simple.

They still can franchise tag and trade him.
They could. But why would they? There's not much of a market for RBs in free agency with mileage on them, much less ones guaranteed Top 5 dollars. I don't think they would get much back in return for a franchised guy coming off an IR season.
They should have taken the 3rd round pick that was reportedly offered for Williams. Hurney is horrible. Not sure how he still has a job especially after the Armanti Edwards debacle. You want to know why New England stays good, because they take advantage of inept organizations like the panthers. We traded our 2nd this year for Armanti Edwards, a player that every analyst said would have been there in the 6th. Thats inexcusable. Now that 2nd looks to be around pick 33,34ish. Thats incredible value for New England and a bummer for the Panthers.

2 draw plays and 21 yards. Not sure the intent was to get Goodsen to 100. May have more to do with the last two possesions being pick six for Balt def.

He was at 96 yards and Fox took time outs as Baltimore thought the game was over. just to get 100 yards for Goodsen. Takes absolutley nothing away from him. he had a 100 yard game either way.

RUN OFFENSE: After failing to register a 100-yard rusher in the first half of the season, Mike Goodson has now done it in back-to-back starts finishing with 120 yards on 22 carries. Granted, it took two late timeouts by coach John Fox and a couple of meaningless draw plays with the clock running out to get it, but hey, it’s little victories for the Panthers at this point. Carolina’s offensive line did a decent job blocking as Goodson averaged 5.5 yards per carry. Grade: B-
