"Yep - the DB was holding on that play, but he let go so it wasn't called"

"There was illegal contact - but it wasn't called and justifiably so..."

Either they're penalties - or they're not. I will not watch another Thursday night game with the sound up as long as those two are in the booth. They were horrible. I'd rather listen to Kornheiser, Gruden and Dennis Miller - all together for 12 hours straight - singing, rather than sit through a fottball game with those two morons behind the mic. Wow.

"Clay Matthews is the defensive player of the week.... unless someone has a better week"

I wanted to biatchslap my television

Yeah, he was pretty bad.

Rodgers made two bad throws (one to Nelson, the other to Jones in the end zone), and both times Maylock blamed the receiver both times, saying, "You gotta catch that," when either catch would have been nothing short of spectacular considering the overthrows.

Blaming Donald Driver on the Bears TD pass.

Calling Cutler an All-Pro.

He was all-time awful.

Yeah on that Jones incompletion in the end zone, the pass was clearly too high. I was trying to figure out which game Mayock was watching.

I noticed him... which is a bad thing. Tried to sound authoritative but kept sitting on the fence so he could wiggle out and go a different direction once a call was made.

I usually don't mind the guys in the booth too much. I enjoy most crews, but when Cutler and Mathews were talking and he said a couple of all-pros talking making it about the 10th time he said that about Cutler I actually winced in pain. Not sure most people regard both those guys in the same light.

Tough crowd this morning.

I did notice he said "that's pretty cool" about 6 times but after listening to Gruden say "Stinger" 50 times and I'm sure "Sheriff" 100 times this coming Monday, or Berman, or just about anybody outside Troy and Buck, I can't really complain.

I mean, I can work with a surgeon in surgery for 5 hours and I'm pretty sure his work on the body will be superb but his ongoing chatter may drive me crazy. So I focus on the important part (the game in this case) and ignore the part I don't really need to improve my life.

They should mix it up.. forget Mayock, he stinks.

How about adding each team homer play caller, the ones who do the preseason games. For instance Carl Banks for the Giants and Greg Buttle for the Jets, they do the preseason games, if they play each other on Thursday night, add both. Each week take the local team guy add in the play by play and it could be fun.

These are brutal games to listen to. Makes me really appreciate Simms, Collinsworth and Aikman...

Every game thread someone complains about the guys in the booth. They don't bother me and it's a tough gig. Add to it now all us :nerd: are dissecting every syllable, I like most the announcers just fine personally.

Thought it was Bob Poppa. You talking radio or broadcast?

Me too. That's why it actually suprised me that I found him to be so annoying. The play by play guy was kind of whateverish. I mean, he sounded like a "standard" play by play guy. But several (and by several I mean 20+) times last night, when Mayock would say something I was either. or :loco: or  - he was just suprisingly - and annoyingly bad.

I actually thought Mayock had a significant number of intelligent comments that were far more in depth than the typical network dumb-down. Does he need to get rid of some stupid comments? Yep. No question. But he was regularly making insights that other crews either don't notice or don't comment on because they've been warned not to get too technical by their networks.

I'm talking the analyst, not the play by play, Papa calls the radio broadcast for the Giants... I was saying keep the play by play guy the same each week and then each week, add the local color guy for the bears and the local color guy for the pack.. the guys who do the preseason games.. and have a 3 man booth and have some fun.I feel like its taking medicine listening to Mayock.. no fun at all...

I really liked Mayock. He's still honing his craft, but he provided better analysis at times than anything you get anywhere else. Really pleased with the Nessler/Mayock TNF crew.

:goodposting: I thought he made some great observations last night. He did have some mistakes but who doesn't...it's a tough gig.

:goodposting: :goodposting: :goodposting: I love hearing Mayock.

Whhhaaaaaa!!!!

Mayock is one of the better guys out there. Saying silly things here and there that have little to nothing to do with the actual Xs and Os on the field is irrelevant for what I want to hear. He breaks plays down well. That's all I care about and the only reason I watch football with the sound on rather than listening to music with the TV on mute.

I like that Mayock tries to be authoritative...but, I don't need him to blame someone for each play that doesn't work. He has to give blame on each incomplete pass.

Unless there is a great defensive play, there is accounting on incomplete passes.
Mayock must do accounting for Bank of America then. Because he attributes blame to all the wrong places.
I bet he does. You would probably do much better then a guy who does this for a living.

Whoah, that was cool.

That play was cool.

Wait, did you see there, Tillman punched the ball, what a cool play.

Shouldn't the TV guys at least sound like they have watched a game before??

you're probably correct in that sarcastic assumption.

mayock is awful bc he is routinely authoritatively wrong. it was blatanly obv that guy was still on the field on the 12 man challenge, and that that challenged int would be upheld. also, every pass is perfect and its the wr fault.

I kinda agree. He's not as polished as a lot of the other guys and he has a way of making some insightful comments actually sound dumb, but I like that he wasn't afraid to take players to task on the air, especially the WRs (though QB and WR are the easiest to get after as their mistakes are so obvious). Overall, I'll live with some of his clunkiness to get some of his honesty, even if it's not always on the mark.

This is my stance.

This post was special.
