Mike Tomlins news conference (1 Viewer)

Mike Tomlin said that RB Willie Parker had a very productive workout today and should be able to resume practice tomorrow. He said they will evaluate Parker throughout the week as to whether or not he'll play this week.

Long snapper Greg Warren underwent surgery and was placed on the IR. The Steelers worked out four different long snappers and will sign one by the end of the say. Safety Ryan Clark suffered a separated shoulder Sunday and is listed as doubtful but Tomlin said the injury was not as serious as originally thought.

CB Bryant McFadden's broken forearm is improving but still is several weeks away from playing. OT Marvel Smith is to resume practice this week with his bad back and will start if he is healthy.

Punter Mitch Berger has a hamstring problem that he has been dealing with for several weeks and wil be evaluated in practice. The Steelers have worked out another punter (most likely Ernster) just in case he cannot go. If that is the case then Hines Ward may hold for Jeff Reed.

QB Ben Roethlisberger (shoulder), NT Casey Hampton (toe), CB Deshea Townsend (groin) are all probable.

WR Santonio Holmes returned this week and Tomlin said as far as he was concerned the team has addressed the situation. He said that further action by the league may occur after the legal process is over.

According to 970 AM Sports Radio the punter the Steelers brought in for a workout is Ricky Schmitt, who has been with Arizona and San Francisco preseason camps.

I'd say it all depends on the "hole" and if he steps in it again. HAHA

Nah, for real, he either..

A. Stepped in the hole, recognized the knee was still tender, and stopped before more damage was done. Which would give him a good chance, say 75%-80%, of starting.

B. Steeped in a hole and re-damaged the knee. 50/50

Thanks for the update Godsbrother.

The "hole" incident was two weeks ago. So that doesn't explain why he sat this week.

Has a hearing date been set for Santonio yet? The NFL won't go ahead with a suspension until the legal process is over, yet the team can subject him to penalty as if he was "Guilty" before he is legally tried? How would this play out with the Players Association if the NFL suspends him too seeing as the team already suspended him for basicly the same incident? Isn't that against the CBA? Thanks for the update. Keep 'em coming!!Just a frustrated S Holmes owner....

Ok can someone explain to me why Harrison was the long snapper instead of Hartwig?? I mean Ben lines up in Shotgun - I would think Hartwig would be able to do it better than Harrison...

A reporter told Tomlin the players union wasn't happy about Holmes being deactivated last week and Tomlin said he was not interested in the thoughts of the players union. He said that he has to make choices every week regarding which 47 players to activate and last week he chose not to activate Holmes.

He said he had a long talk with Holmes and decribed it the discussion "productive from my standpoint", implying that it was he that did most of the talking. He said the matter had been handled by the Steelers and the team was moving on.

Tomlin said that long snapping is very different from snapping in a shotgun. Apparently Harrison and James Farrior take a few long snaps every week in practice and are considered the emergency long snappers.

Ive heard this before from other coaches too...they don't want to mess up the center's regular and shotgun snaps.

I know it's different but I would have felt better for 1 snap out of Hartwig but that's just me. :lmao:

I am with ya.

A shotgun snap is with one hand and just lobbing the ball backwards.

A long snap requires 2 hands and it is spiraled backwards very fast. It is actually a difficult skill to master.

Good for him. Maybe the union should talk to their members about being idiots and they wouldn't have to worry about being deactivated.
