Some people had the rookie WR Mike Walker replacing Matt Jones and Reggie Williams, but apparently he is starting the year on the IR. The dream comes to an end for now...

Many loved this guy, but I never saw it. This is a surprising move though, given all of the questions surrounding the WR situation. I see a really bad year for the Jags.

Is he actually hurt?
Recovering from a torn acl. Cant imagine it was all that healthy since he never really had any down time.
drafted him and with only one IR spot back to the WW heap. Sucks I thought he was a steal in the 12th round
I drafted him in the 3rd of a rookie/FA draft. Just traded him away for a pick and now i wish i hadn't since he can be IRed. oh well guess thats how it goes.

Knee is the official but he also injured a finger in training camp. Charles Sharon was cut and I guess he'll go to practice squad if he clears waivers. So much for cutting a veteran WR. Basically the Jags are stashing him for a year. The whole article:
Jaguars trim rosterTrade Pearman09/01/07The Jacksonville Jaguars today released 19 players including quarterback Byron Leftwich, traded RB Alvin Pearman to Seattle for an undisclosed draft choice, and placed two players – DE James Wyche (groin) and WR Mike Walker (knee) on injured reserve. The other veterans included in today’s cuts were G Dan Connolly, S Jamaal Fudge, LB Nick Greisen, DT Seth Payne, WR Charles Sharon, CB Bruce Thornton and CB Dee Webb. One of the Jaguars’ 11 draft picks, safety Josh Gattis (fifth round), was waived. Joining Gattis were ten first-year players: DT Joe Anoai, LB Kevis Coley, DL Walter Curry, OT Ryan Gibbons, DE Tyler King, DB Jamar Landrom, LB Roy Manning, G Pete McMahon, CB Rashod Moulton and TE Isaac Smolko. The Jaguars’ roster now stands at 53 players. The team can sign eight players to their practice squad after 12:00 noon Sunday. Of the 53 players, 34 were drafted by Jacksonville including 27 from 2003 through 2007. This marked the first season under head coach Jack Del Rio that no undrafted rookies made the initial 53-man roster.

He was just dropped in a 24 man roster dynasty league, hmmm. I'm seriously considering stashing him, but that would mean I would have to drop one of Huard, Ryan Grant, Maurice Hicks, or Sproles (I'm a LT2 and Turner owner). If I convince myself to do this, I guess it's Sproles that is sent packing.

Was Walker dropped in any of your dynasty leagues? Maybe that would be a better question in a couple of days when owners actually know the news that he's been put on IR.

I think he is worth IRing. I traded him 3 days before this news came out(had do get my roster down) but had I known that this would happen i would have kept him. I wouldn't drop sproles but then again thats me. Ryan Grant would probably be the guy I cut but then again I know nothing about him.

IMO, this would be foolish. A RB, even a backup, is more valuable than a rookie WR who has never played in the NFL regular season and who is spending his first year on IR and whose team has no QB. If you really think Walker is all that and more, wait until after the bye weeks and pick him up later in the season. People will forget about him in a about a week once the players who are rostered start putting up points.

I think I will just forget about it. We don't have an IR, and the players I mentioned have more value to me now. I never was convinced Walker would be anything special anyway. He might be good down the road, but it's not like stashing a sure thing.

Just to be clear here, he definitely is not able to come off this list, correct? I know that players on the PUP list can play eventually, but once he starts on the IR I think he is there for the rest of the year. Im thinking of dropping him if so, should be able to get him at the end of the year if he doesnt play.

Yes, by putting him on the IR his season is done.

IR = end of season. Nobody comes off that list.

You know, this whole Jacksonville QB and WR situation is really annoying. First, yes, I did draft Walker in a couple of deep (26 spot) dynasty leagues, and maybe that's why I paid more attention to the whole thing but I don't really think it's why I'm annoyed.

I'm annoyed because we try to read and keep up with everything and make our best decisions, and then finally have to realize the team itself really is a rudderless ship when it comes to making tough decisions. I honestly think Del Rio and the GM (forgot his name) don't know what they are doing from week to week and don't have any idea what direction they want to take this franchise.

The Leftwich thing was a disaster. It's been known for a long time that JDR didn't like Leftwich. So why all the noise in February backing the guy, and give him most of the 1st team camp snaps, let him start every preseason game, and then 9 days before the season change his mind and dump him without getting a thing for him because by that time it's way too late? Could have drafted Quinn in April but didn't. Could have traded Leftwich earlier in the offseason but didn't. Instead, they panic over a few preseason games and supplant Leftwich with an inferior QB because the inferior QB had a hot hand for a few meaningless quarters of preseason. Make a damn decision and stick to it, either trade Leftwich early enough to get value for him, or start him for the season. If they really think Garrard is going to lead them to the promised land, I gotta laugh at that.

Now, the WRs. WTF are they doing? Apparently, either totally confused / knee-jerk reacting to every practice and preseason game, or lying to everyone every step of the way. Walker was supposedly their best WR. JDR said so. But despite Walker himself saying the knee is no big deal (he played on it all last year, after the surgery!), the dumbazz brain trust in J-ville IRs him. I bet they think they are being so clever, stashing him for the future. All they are doing is delaying his growth. Sharon was supposed to be doing so well in their eyes, and was on the field with the starters in preseason much of the time. So they cut him (will land on the PS most likely). Wilford and Northcutt started all preseason, and Williams was rumored to be cut and Jones taking the slot. Now who knows what they will do because we can't trust a stinking word coming out of the coach or GM.

I just think they are too clueless to figure out a direction, or too gutless to make a tough choice. Lots of tough talk with the WRs when it meant nothing, but now the same ol same ol will probably continue, just with a lousy QB. Good luck Jag fans, your coach and GM suck big time.

Just wanted to vent. I really hate that coaching / GM bunch out there.

Thanks.

Totally agree with this, and the only consolation I can see is that I suspect this will be Del Rio's last year as that team is a sinking ship. At least with a guy like Shanny, who is a fantasy nightmare, he has a record of success and does in fact know what he is doing--he just doesn't let any of know. These jokers clearly have no plan and are reacting rather than planning.

Could not agree more. Utter lack of leadership. I can't imagine that the players respect Del Rio.At least the Lions had the nads to cut bait on their busts early.

To JohnnyU, since you asked -- I own Walker in 3 dynasty leagues: both HyperActive leagues and my Shark Infested FFL.

In SIFFL I'll be cutting him today (three round rookie draft with no drops in early Aug, then trim rosters by three at end of preseason). I can't justify keeping him among my top 20 given his IR status, and their QB, and the fact that Wilford, Northcutt, Jones and Williams are all still on the JAX roster. Even when he returns in a year, who knows how this cluster#### of a team will use everyone. I just can't justify holding the spot open when it could end up for nothing.

In the HA leagues we have 26 spots so I may hang onto him in HA1 where I'm more set, but I probably won't. In HA2 I definitely will let him go once I find the right replacement opportunity because I already have too many currently unproductive prospects rostered for the future and can't justify holding the spot open, for reasons mentioned in the previous paragraph.

Walker may become the stud WR of the team, but he may end up being just another guy. I would have loved to find out this year, but now that can't happen and waiting a year for a 'maybe' doesn't make a lot of sense to me. JDR said he was the best WR, but now I have to take even that comment with a grain of salt given everything that's been said and done since.

If you think it's difficult to understand from a fantasy standpoint, imagine what it's like for us fans.

Let's see, one first round WR is inactive in week 1, a different first round WR is inactive in week 3. Del Rio must be getting coaching advice from Romeo Crennel.
