Mike Williams: Credits Martz with taking him out of 'young punk' phaseAugust 15, 2007The message here, like it or not, is that playing for the Lions is a learning experience.Oakland receiver Mike Williams told a tale of personal growth -- not the kind that got him in trouble here -- crediting nitpicking Mike Martz with taking him out of a "young punk" phase. "Regardless of how bad it was for me or how negative it was for me, I appreciate every second being around Coach Martz," Williams told the Sacramento Bee. "... All I think about when I'm on the field is what would Coach Martz say about this, or how I did that."
BMW ready to be a super stud

The question is "Who is going to take Williams out of the FAT stage and get him into shape?"

Lane Kiffen already has stated the BMW is nowhere near game shape..or basically the same shape he has been in since he enetered the NFL.

If was common knowledge around Detroit that BMW could not make it through a tough practice due to his lack of conditioning.

:lmao: BWM is a waste. He has zero work ethic and has an entitlement attitude.I took a late round flier on him when Martz came to town in Detroit - if Martz lets him go with the WRs in Detriot then don't you think Martz knows what he is doing.Even with an offense that is almost custom designed for WRs Mike Furrey who isn't even a real WR.

so, what was the deal with all the pre-draft discussion about how great his "character" issues were?

Williams is still only 23, playing for his old position coach, will have a young stud QB throwing the ball soon, and not a lot of competition at WR for playing time. Not a lot of guys have his type of upside.

Mike Williams was late to practice and got fined so much the team got him a condo in dearborn, mi which was like 5 minutes from the allen park practice facility and he still would show up late and get fined. Lazy bum

Don't people usually start giving credit out AFTER the improvement? What is wrong with BMW? The guy is a bust and he's going around congratulating the guy who basically just cut his ###.

Idiot.

If he comes out and says, "I've matured and grown up", it reads like he's trying to convince everyone he's matured and grown up.If he comes out and gives someone credit for helping him to mature and grow up, the focus is on the credit giving. People are less likely to immediately think to question whether he actually has matured.

you can add Mike Williams as another player I would take over David Boston.
I can understand why. Mike Williams has shown flashes of promise at the NFL level while Boston has never proven himself in this league. Mike Williams only has to deal with Jerry Porter and Ronald Curry being ahead of him while Boston has the iron man Joey Galloway and Stovall to deal with. Mike Williams has been said to be in tip top shape while Boston has been accused of coming into training camp with his greatest Ron Dayne impression.Mike Williams gets the benefit of dealing with an up and coming coach that will not be a puppet of a senile old coot. David Boston is being forced to play for a Super Bowl winning coach that hasn't shut up about how good he's been looking.

Why do your posts look like Haiku's on my screen?

I have posted this before but a big part of Mike Williams not seeing the field in Detroit was that he did not know the plays, in practice Kitna would throw to where BMW was supposed to be and there was no one there except a saftey.

Matt Lienart said BMW was lazy at USC but could get away with it in college.
