Take your reasonable, level-headed, non-emotionally driven, and sensible opinions somewhere else, pal.As a Lions
Lions fan here chiming in to say I agree with HSG. First of all, I realized during last night's game that I found it really hard to hate this team. You have a great HC who's not just a brilliant offensive mind but also appears to be a decent human (I'm thinking of what he said to Anthony Richardson after the Colts game). You have a DC who I've always liked, and even if he seemed to have some personal communication issues at his last job, he's a heck of a defensive playcaller. You have the best WR on the planet. Your RB is one of those beloved teammates. Your QB is one of the league's best stories this year.Nope - Niners fan.Must not be a diehard Viking fan like us.Seems like only Vikings fans could be this angry and outraged by (checks notes) winning 14 games and going to the playoffs in a season y’all *drafted a QB* and had zero expectations of winning anything.I've been saying this ALL season. He has played well, but definitely not $200 Million dollars well.To me it wasn't one game. I've seen glimpses of this all season. Last night was everything I was worried I was seeing more than just once in a while. Not saying it's right or wrong but kind of amazing opinions on Darnold seem to have shifted based on one game.
Every single game there are at least 2 INT's that are dropped by the Defenders. He had at least 2 yesterday that should have been intercepted, but he got lucky.
I am impressed what he did, seeing as I thought he leading the team would be 8 wins at best.
But he still makes worse than rookie mistakes.
But again, not laying all the blame on him, that goes on Keven![]()
lmao - y’all sound ridiculous.
4 Superbowl losses, 1998, plus other years allows to get upset when a team that had no expectations has a chance to win the #1 seed and once again chokes away the chance.
And yet here I am, a basement covered in Viking memorabilia, purple sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks, slippers ready to cheer them on during every game.![]()
Y’all gotta manifest positivity. Go to the light.
You get a cake matchup in pleasant weather CA, in front of a largely apathetic fan base.
Just sayin - you want misery, try being a 49ers fan watching our one time backup QB winning you 14 games. You could be watching the playoffs with no rooting interest.
Better to have loved and lost, and all that. If it helps at all, many of us will be rooting for the Vikes in round 1. Because we hate the Rams. Go Vikings!

As a lifelong Lions fan, the past two years have been super weird. But I decided heading into last season that, win or lose, I was done with the whole "Same old Lions" crap. If they lost, it was because they weren't good enough or they screwed up or, as it turned out, because we missed on a couple 4th downs, our sure-handed RB fumbled, and an INT bounced off the freakin' facemask of our DB and into a WR's hands. Not gonna lie, that game totally sucked. But that's the only way I ever viewed it: As something that sucked. Not the fulfillment of a Biblical prophecy.
Last night was your crappy game, unfortunately at the worst time (or maybe not, since you're still in the playoffs). It happens. Goff crapped the bed in Houston but somehow managed to escape with a win. Our defense crapped the bed vs Buffalo and didn't get so lucky.
Anyway, I think you have a very good shot at beating the Rams, and if the other favs hold serve, we'll see Round Three, which I think will be a great matchup but which will also scare the heck out of me. Until that happens, good luck!
It's tough to move away from that mentality when it has been beaten into you (thanks Bounty Gate for 2009 debacle) as a fan. The differing ways the Vikes have kicked the fans in the nuggets is very impressive with the myriad of ways it takes place. I am actually relieved they didn't get the #1 seed as that would have been a much more cruel exit to the playoffs after this tremendously unexpected season. My expectations are relatively low for anything happening of consequence. I do believe the Vikes should beat the Rams and then beating a team 3 times in one season isn't as difficult as it seems......or is it? The "sweeping" team is 15-9 (as of 2023) so it is a daunting task. It's the hope that kills you and Vikings fans know this better than anyone. But I decided heading into last season that, win or lose, I was done with the whole "Same old Lions" crap.
4x in 6 years they lost in the NFCC or SB.I am sorry but this statement is downright laughable. 49ers fans have no concept of what misery is as a fanbase is like.Just sayin - you want misery, try being a 49ers fan
And how many Super Bowl wins do the 49ers have? Enough said. you don't know misery4x in 6 years they lost in the NFCC or SB.I am sorry but this statement is downright laughable. 49ers fans have no concept of what misery is as a fanbase is like.Just sayin - you want misery, try being a 49ers fan
We have some concept of misery.
You don’t have a monopoly on disappointment.
Dude. And how many Super Bowl wins do the 49ers have? Enough said. you don't know misery
Agree to disagree. That is not misery. Frustration - sure.............. Disappointment - ok.............in the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times. That is not misery. You have more Super Bowl wins than the Vikings have appearances......let alone winning none of those 4. We have Gary Anderson, Bounty Gate, and the four losses in the big game. Misery heaped upon misery. This is a battle you can never win. What you have experienced isn't anything close to misery....it's some mild discomfort from indigestion after eating a 5 star meal.Dude.And how many Super Bowl wins do the 49ers have? Enough said. you don't know misery
We went through a 9 year stretch of Mike Nolan, Mike Singletary, Dennis Erickson, Jim Tomsula, Jim Tomsula again, and Chip Kelly.
We know misery.
It just doesn’t work like thatin the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times
You'd have a much different sentiment if they didn't win any.It just doesn’t work like thatin the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times
I wouldn't know......and that is true miseryIt just doesn’t work like thatin the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times
Go back to the beginning of the season where we had no expectations. The team has far surpassed even the most optimistic outlooks. Even if we lose Monday (I think we win though) it'll suck but it should be nowhere near the stomach punch that was 98 or 09.I am getting this feeling of deja-vu all over again.......................loss to Detroit followed the next week by a loss to..............................................the Rams. Uh oh!
Yep.I wouldn't know......and that is true miseryIt just doesn’t work like thatin the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times
I agree it isn't close to those years as far as soul crushing.......but there is still time for the hope to get ratcheted up enough to rival those. Beat the Rams, Beat Detroit, Lose to Green Bay at home in the NFCCG. Not sure what fluky thing could happen for the loss but I am sure there is something awesome like fumbling the snap on the kneel downGo back to the beginning of the season where we had no expectations. This is my point, largely. Y’all have a lot to celebrate right now. Never mind what happens on Monday night.Go back to the beginning of the season where we had no expectations. Then you’ll know how Niners fans feel.Lose to Green Bay at home in the NFCCG.
In the event you're addressing me, I believe I posted in this thread (or another, but I definitely posted this) that I'm viewing the recent game as an aberration that just spiraled badly with the 4th down failures and Darnold's off night. This is my point, largely. And again, all of this overreaction has been over a *regular season game*. Y’all miserable like you got knocked out the playoffs already, and that game hasn’t even been played yet!

Might have something to do with the fact I've always been a Vikings fan but only ever actually lived in and around Minnesota fans for like 7 years. No, addressing the aggregate fan base here.In the event you're addressing me, I believe I posted in this thread (or another, but I definitely posted this) that I'm viewing the recent game as an aberration that just spiraled badly with the 4th down failures and Darnold's off night. This is my point, largely. Years ago (pre-2004) I heard an analogy about Cubs fans vs Red Sox fans: Cubs fans are the single guy at the bar who gets shot down by the hot girl before he can even open his mouth. Red Sox fans spend all night buying her drinks, flirting and getting positive feedback, then they leave for two seconds to use the john and another guy swoops in and takes her home. I think that's a little like Lions vs Vikes. Prior to last year, Detroit had made one NFCCG in the Super Bowl era and got run off the field by a historically great team. Vikings lost four SBs along with some truly epic heartbreaking CG losses (1998, 2009). Each hurt in their own way. But I get it.It's tough to move away from that mentality when it has been beaten into you (thanks Bounty Gate for 2009 debacle) as a fan. The differing ways the Vikes have kicked the fans in the nuggets is very impressive with the myriad of ways it takes place. But I decided heading into last season that, win or lose, I was done with the whole "Same old Lions" crap.
Man, you guys really are down bad.I am actually relieved they didn't get the #1 seed as that would have been a much more cruel exit to the playoffs after this tremendously unexpected season.
Most of my comments are just jokes fueling the flames of history. In my mind I know none of that history matters moving forward but I also know expecting the worse and not letting your guard down with hope makes it easier to accept the disappointment.I can't tell you to stop thinking that way. But I will tell you that the sooner you can find a way to stop thinking that way, the better off you'll be. (
Give me Mullens over Daniel Jones for back up now and in the future.Daniel Jones signed from practice squad.

This is how it felt in 2010 as a SF Giants fan.I am also an LA Kings fan and it took them 45 yrs to win a Cup. The sweet taste of victory was well worth the wait and if/when the Vikes finally get there will be just as sweet.
They cut Rypien to make the move. So my guess is coaching agrees.Give me Mullens over Daniel Jones for back up now and in the future.Daniel Jones signed from practice squad.

The Kings won in 2012 and it was crazy how emotional it was. They came back and won again in 2014 and it's just as special but for different reasons. The first being I was actually at the Cup clinching game this time and it was a double OT game winner that was scored right below my seats. It was the most emotionally draining sporting event I have ever been a part of. Absolutely incredible to be there.Yes, I agree. 2017 for the Eagles was a feeling you can't describe. The first one is special. If the Eagles win another one in my lifetime, it will be great, but won't be as emotional.
The Vikes haven't even been to the Super Bowl in 48 years. In fact, the Vikings have never been to a Super Bowl since I have been a fan. Having been born and raised in California my fandom came about in a weird way. I never really had a favorite NFL team growing up. I liked the Chargers in the early 80s when I started following football because of their style of play but I wasn't really a "fan" so to speak. Then I started playing FF. We started in 1985 and our league required your team name to be an NFL team name. Since I didn't have a team we put a bunch of names in a hat and I pulled out the Vikings. So over the years I started acquiring hats, tee shirts, etc to wear at the draft. I eventually started wearing it around town and people would come up and ask about being a Vikings fan. I told them I wasn't and then had to explain FF to them because back then nobody knew what FF was. I got so sick of explaining what it was it just said **** It! I am going to be a Vikings fan.........and it has been misery ever since. But no turning back now. I am full in and can't wait to be rewarded someday. hahahaIt’s been 30 years dude.
Of the four major men's sports, the last MN team to make (not win) a championship game/series was the Twins in 1991. That is nearly 120 cumulative seasons of not even making it to the big game, let alone winning it.The Vikes haven't even been to the Super Bowl in 48 years. I suppose this is offset by the adage of "ignorance is bliss" and if one has never been even close to the "promised land" it's not as painful as they don't even know what they're missing For that, we probably need a Browns' fan perspective or, until just recently, a Lions' fan's perspective.Yep.I wouldn't know......and that is true miseryIt just doesn’t work like thatin the end you can always go back and remember the FIVE Super Bowl wins to put a smile on your face and enjoy the good times
From a more pure perspective, "It's better to have loved an lost than to have never loved at all."
From a more crude, but I think more realistic perspective, "It's better to have a few amazing nights with the hot girl only to have her break your heart than to never have had her at all."
In other words, those lonely painful Sunday nights are mitigated somewhat by positive memories even if you think you'll never experience them again.
Guilty! For no earthly reason, too - unless you just enjoy riling up other fan bases.
I’m not. I’m comparing the last 29 years.Comparing the Niners and Vikings historical success and failures is bizarro world.![]()

I do sincerely think it’s a bit silly to be so defeatist when they have yet to play the game against the Rams.
