MixTape Draft - 6+ word titles. Finish your draft and listen to mixes! (1 Viewer)

I probably messed you up when I called him rocknation. I always get the part after rock wrong.
:(

So saddening.

:P

BTW, I named myself after Mogwai's own label in Scotland, which they named after Scott Asheton of the Stooges. Iggy used to call him "Rock Action."

6+ words gonna be too much, or we nerdy enough?

I was finding more than I expected as I went through, but it's still maybe 5-10% of songs I look at.

I got 40+ on a quick look thru on my songs. There seems to be a huge number of songs with 5 words, so I think 6 is a good line.

In all seriousness i am going to have to pass this time. Will be too busy over the next 2 weeks, although I could fill a whole draft with Pet Shop Boys songs here.
You are always welcome to your autoskip draft slot...

or feel free to drop some songs at the end of the draft and I will add them to the playlist.

Kinda what I was thinking.  I like the drafts to challenge us a get us a maybe a little out of our comfort zone.

On a similar note, what would be a good # of rounds?  I was thinking 20-25 as I looked through stuff.  That would give us 500+ songs depending on # of drafters.  Again, I want to push us a little, but not go overboard.

Seems like we have a lot of responses from the usual suspects.  I think I will see if others pop in tonight, do draft order in the morning and we fire this up tomorrow with a timer-less 1st round.   Anybody be able to knock out a spreadsheet as we go?

giving this lot and the usual drafts- of my 67 so-far culled songs, I expect 66 of them to get sniped.

I can do the spreadsheet, shouldn't be to difficult since we don't have categories to worry about.

15 is plenty.  20-25 is too much to listen to in one sitting, especially when a lot of the songs will be nine minute long proggy wankfests.

Let me know if I missed anybody (again).  Looks like we currently have 21 of us in this thing.

Knock yourself out.  I thought of a few examples of this as well.  IMO all we need is some sort of place to look for varification.  I am fine with stuff like this being taken if it was like that on the album when it came out.  I realize there might even be differences b/t the American release of something vs. the European version.  If it's listed like that on allmusic or wikipedia or something, it gets a green light.

Based on a half hour of research, I think this will be a fun format and a good challenge to cram into a decent mix.

I'm looking forward to drafting from North America and the UK this time.

Same.

Just went through my iTunes and selected 127 songs that I like that fit this category.  This is going to be tough to narrow to 15-20 songs.  Luckily, I think snipage will be at a minimum.

Just to clarify, I assume those live songs with snippets of songs in the middle or segues into the next song no go for this one.

For example, Bruce Hornsby has "Fortunate Son > Comfortably Numb > Fortunate Son" as well as "Jacob's Ladder > The Way It Is" in their sets and live albums throughout the years.

99% sure these don't meet the spirit of the "six word song title" that we are looking for here.

I would say that is correct.

Gonna go with my gut and stick to songs with 6+ words in the title, and we will go 20.  I understand Eephus' concerns about length of songs.  I don't get the feeling that we have a ton of proggy drafters in here that are going to take a ton of 15min songs.  Could be off base here, but I figure 20 will get us right around that 90-100 min cassette tape length.  During my research, I seem to be coming up with almost the opposite - a ton of long titled songs that are short.

Can we do 5 plus?  Six is gonna take the fun out of it and make flow impossible.

No! It's 6 Minute Abs!!!  6 is the key number here.  6 chipmunks twirling on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch.  You know that old children's tale from the sea.

6 and 20 seem perfect to me. Might need to sign up a couple aliases for this one though...

If we get more volunteers for the draft we can stick them at the end of the draft or near the end if the last few want to keep their place by the turn.

Now that my notifications are set up properly, I promise not to unknowingly hold up the draft for 3+ hours in the first round.  Or knowingly hold it up either.
