MixTape Draft - Back to School edition. Make your picks and post your mix! (1 Viewer)

Sorry, got caught up with the family stuff.  Haven't taken a Radiohead song for a couple drafts.  Maybe I should've taken this for the last draft.

7.02:  RADIOHEAD - PACKT LIKE SARDINES IN A CRUSHED TIN BOX

7.xx  The Kinks - The Hard Way

Boys like you were born to waste,

You never listen to a word I say

And if you think you're here to mess around,

You're making a big mistake,

'Cos you're gonna find out the hard way,

You gonna find out the hard way.

No matter what I do or say,

You're much too dumb to educate.

One day life's going to turn around and slap you in the face,

Then you're gonna find out the hard way.

You'll take the hard way,

Gonna take the hard way.

Well, you'll do it your way and I'll do it my way,

And we'll see who's the one to survive.

You'll find that with no foundation

Or qualifications

There's no way that you can get by,

No, there's no way you can get by.

Why don't you take the easy way?

Why don't you co-operate?

Don't just sit there and vegetate.

Do you want to end up illiterate?

You think that life's a vacation

And you've no inclination

To dust away the cobwebs of your mind.

Now it's time for confrontation

And I'm tired of being patient,

So I've got to be cruel to be kind.

Yeah, I've got to be cruel to be kind.

I'm wasting my vocation teaching you to write neat

When you're only fit to sweep the streets.

Your intellect is such

That it requires a killer's touch.

So I'm going to play it your way,

We'll take the hard way.

Going to take the hard way,

You can take the hard way.

Gonna take the hard way,

Gonna take the hard way

Here is a Political Science one from the late 80's

7.07 - Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning

This is a political song about giving native Australian lands back to the the Pintupi, who were among the very last people to come in from the desert. These 'last contact' people began moving from the Gibson Desert to settlements and missions in the 1930s. More were forcibly moved during the 1950's and 1960's to the Papunya settlement. In 1981 they left to return to their own country and established the Kintore community which is nestled in the picturesque Kintore Ranges, surrounded by Mulga and Spinifex country. It is now a thriving little community with a population of about 400.

Nice snipe, thought I could get this later.

Morning y'all...looks like I am still on the clock.

7.09 - Hinder - Homecoming Queen

i think my theme is expanding from "summer vacation" into "your final high school year", a chronological walk through your final year of high school into college.

And I think I get a bonus point or something for the album cover here

@Waingro is up next - not sure when the clock is starting/stopping or if this thing is running 24/7 at this point, but he would be up next.

My sixth pick is a...

Hall Pass (Bathroom with exploding toilet)

John Mellencamp - Cherry Bomb

@Northern Voice is up, and times out in 10 minutes.  Oz, the first page shows the draft order so people know who is up. I have to leave in 10 minutes, and I'll be gone for a couple hours.  Skip me.

Sorry, didn't realize I was up.

My last pick - Oak Ridges morraine ends at the Niagara Escarpment. The Niagara Escarpment itself is most well known for Niagara Falls but is actually a much larger geographical area that spreads into the United States and Manitoba. The Niagara Falls of course are near the junction of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.

Sarah Harmer - Escarpment Blues

If they blow a hole in my backyard
Everyone is gonna run away
The creeks won't flow to the Great Lake below
Will the water in the wells still be ok?

We'll need to build some new apartments
And I know we're gonna have to fix the roads
But if we blow a hole in the escarpment
The wild ones won't have anywhere to go

If they blow a hole in the backbone
The one that runs cross the muscles of the land
We might get a load of stone for the road
But I don't know how much longer we can stand

We'll keep driving on the Blind Line
If we don't know where we want to go
Even knowledge that's sound can get watered down
Truth can get sucked out the car window

We're two-thirds water
What do we really need?
But sun, showers, soil and seed
We're two-thirds water
The aquifers provide
Deep down in the rock
There's a pearl inside

@simey - You are up, @Ilov80s said to skip him.
simey said to skip her, too, so I guess I'm up.

8.xx - The Distillers - Seneca Falls

American History - 101 or 201 - Interdisciplinary with Gender/Women's Studies 101

Feminism sounds good when Brody does it. Never sounded quite so good.

Oh it's set in 1848,
in the crush of New York state,
and the thing about destiny is it never ever makes mistakes

Susan B. Anthony
Forever haunting me.
Owned, raped, sold, thrown,
A woman was never her own

They cried freedom rise up for me!

I want I want I want freedom

Oh it's set in 1848,
in the crush of New York state,
and the thing about destiny is it never ever sets you free

Elizabeth Cady
Forever reminding me
I don't steal the air I breathe

Freedom rise up for me.

Alright, picking up from Niagara Falls, let's talk some more about the Great Lakes. One of the most defining aspects of Canadian geography, In addition to Lake Ontario and Erie, The Great Lakes include Huron, Michigan and Superior. The great lakes are so important for drinking water and, historically,  transportation for Southern Ontario cities. 20% of the world’s fresh water is found in the Great Lakes.

8.05 - The Strumbellas - Lakes

And I miss the cold the winters and the snow
Oh I miss the trees, and lives we used to know
I don't wanna leave, but it's everything I need

I liked this again. Why the Sum 41 stuff in the studio? Any idea?

Yeah, no idea, there's a Blue Rodeo album there too, maybe just the studio they were in at that time. The whole video, down to the beer they're drinking and the Bicycle Music Festival is very Toronto (which is obviously the city they moved out too). Strumbellas are really big here now with their songs "Spirits" and "We Don't Know", not sure if they've made a dent south of the border yet? They're from Lindsay, Ontario, which is very close to both where I live (Peterborough) and my Tragically Hip pick Bobcaygeon.

Oh, okay. Interesting.

I'm probably not the right guy to ask if they've made a dent at the border. I see they won the Juno awards, I'm just not hip enough to know if they're big down here yet. They probably are, and I'm just unaware.

This is my seventh or eighth pick...

Homeroom attendance...

Radiohead - Everything in it's Right Place
