MixTape Draft - Back to School edition. Make your picks and post your mix! (1 Viewer)

Yeah, no idea, there's a Blue Rodeo album there too, maybe just the studio they were in at that time. The whole video, down to the beer they're drinking and the Bicycle Music Festival is very Toronto (which is obviously the city they moved out too). Strumbellas are really big here now with their songs "Spirits" and "We Don't Know", not sure if they've made a dent south of the border yet? They're from Lindsay, Ontario, which is very close to both where I live (Peterborough) and my Tragically Hip pick Bobcaygeon.
Here in the North (Detroit) they get radio airplay but only on the Canadian channel (89x) as far as I know. They do tour here tho.

8.xx- Number of the Beast, Iron Maiden, Math class

"Woe to you, oh Earth and Sea, for the Devil sends the beast with wrath,Because he knows the time is short...Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beastFor it is a human number,Its number is Six hundred and sixty six."I left alone, my mind was blank.I needed time to think, to get the memories from my mind.What did I see?Can I believe that what I saw that night was real and not just fantasy.Just what I saw in my old dreamsWere they reflections of my warped mind staring back at me?'Cause in my dreams it's always thereThe evil face that twists my mind and brings me to despairThe night was black, was no use holding back'Cause I just had to see, was someone watching meIn the mist dark figures move and twistWas all this for real, or just some kind of hell?666 the number of the beastHell and fire was spawned to be releasedTorches blazed and sacred chants were praisedAs they start to cry hands held to the skyIn the night the fires are burning brightThe ritual has begun, Satan's work is done666 the number of the beastSacrifice is going on tonightThis can't go on I must inform the lawCan this still be real or just some crazy dream?But I feel drawn towards the chanting hordesThey seem to mesmerise, can't avoid their eyes666 the number of the beast666 the one for you and meI'm coming backI will returnAnd I'll possess your body and I'll make you burnI have the fireI have the forceI have the power to make my evil take its course

Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall, Pt. 2

I realize this was taken in the last draft and we've all heard it 1100 times but it fits so well with my general mix theme that I've got to take it.  And, it's a good song.

We don't need no education

We don't need no thought control

No dark sarcasm in the classroom

Teachers leave them kids alone

Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone

All in all it's just another brick in the wall

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

We don't need no education

We don't need no thought control

No dark sarcasm in the classroom

Teachers leave those kids alone

Hey! Teachers! Leave those kids alone

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

All in all you're just another brick in the wall

"Wrong, do it again!"

"If you don't eat yer meat, you can't have any pudding

How can you have any pudding if you don't eat yer meat?"

"You! Yes, you behind the bike sheds, stand still laddy!"

@Mrs. Rannous

Sorry guys, got the message right before back-to-back-to-back meetings.  And a "fire drill" of work for good measure.

For those of you who have followed my other drafts, this one will be an outlier.

8.xx - Mistah F.A.B. - Yearbook

Don't see it on YouTube, but it looks to be on Spotify.

It does seem like we have skips and TOs, so let's move to the 2 a day portion of the draft.

So how about this:

1.  We will finish up Round 8 tonight.

2.  We do one pick in the morning (any time) and one pick in the afternoon (how about 3pm est to space it out a little)

3.  We will do one pick per day over the weekend.

      Tonight = finish round 8

      Thurs = Rounds 9/10

      Friday = Rounds 11/12

      Sat = Round 13

      Sun = Round 14

      Monday = Rounds 15/16

      Tuesday =  Rounds 17/18

      Weds =  Rounds 19/20  + posting and listening to mixes.

We are missing these for Round 8:
JZilla
Dr. Octopus
Mrs. Rannous
Raging Weasel
KarmaPolice
Yo Mama

Are we ever going to get JZilla and/or Dr. Octopus? We only have Rounds 1, 2 for JZilla.

JZ dropped out, this was his original intent, we could crowd source it, chime in with picks for him as we see fit? Or we can just leave it be.
I think these read as him dropping out. He does mention throwing '"ABC" back in the pool.'

Keep me on skip while I'm sick as a dog, there may be some gaps checking in.  If someone who has my info wanted to text or email that would be appreciated

You guys are doing too great a job, and you're going to have to carry forth without me.  As this ####### flu slow rolls me and takes its toll on my brain as much as my body, work is piling up and I'm going to need all the focus and energy I can muster for that

Guess I shouldn't have blown all those Red Sox

Sorry to throw "ABC" back into the pool like this but it's happening.. now

Go for it.. I'm not sure how pretty this was gonna be for me no matter what.. everything I'd come up with was getting sniped this time around. I'm finding this more fun to witness than participate in. School songs.. not my strong suit.. Sad

I have a few in my pocket still if anybody wants, stuff I had my eye on for a bit later in the exercise

I can pick for zilla the rest of the way ... have a list of 23 and only 3 have been sniped    fine with doing 10-12

Yo Mama University

Course:  Religion 450

Course Title:  Santeria

Instructor:  Sublime

Course Description:  Santeria, the "worship of saints", is an Afro-American religion of Caribbean origin that developed in the Spanish Empire among West African descendants.  Lab fee of $150 for live chickens can be waived if you bring your own to class.

Instructor Commentary:  "If I could find that Heina and that Sancho that she's found, I'd pop a cap in Sancho and I'd slap her down."

Round 8 Lowrider  -  War

We're now on to Urban Culture.  This section is on Latino studies.  I have no idea about the rest of the country, but in LA and Houston, this culture is important.

Today in Theology we will listen to this fine gospel song. This was my great Aunt Mildred's favorite song. It was played at her funeral.

9.xx - In the Garden - Glen Campbell

I have it set up.

@Getzlaf15 - we are doing the ninth round this morning. JZilla made two picks, if you want to keep them great if not, make all nine.

ENJOY!!
Thanks,  I've followed this and the last two drafts very closely.  I'll just start here and if I have enough songs at the end, I'll add them.  I have found from the prior drafts that my music library is vastly limited compared to you guys. Basically stopped listening to most new music after we had kids in the early 80's. LOL.  Which is why hardly any of the songs I selected before this draft started have been sniped.    I'll make my morning pick in a few.

If you are keeping the two he did, you need seven. He did these so far:

Preschool

Don't Talk To Strangers

Dio

Kindergarten

ABC

Jackson 5

Thanks for letting me draft....

This is one of my Top 10 fave songs of all time.

Bloody Well Right - Supertramp

So you think your schooling's phony
I guess it's hard not to agree
You say it all depends on money
And who is in your family tree

Right, you're bloody well right
You know you got a right to say
Right, you're bloody well right
You know you got a right to say

Ha-ha you're bloody well right
You know you're right to say
Yeah-yeah you're bloody well right
You know you're right to say
Me, I don't care anyway!

Write your problems down in detail
Take them to a higher place
You've had your cry, no, I should say wail
In the meantime hush your face
Right, quite right, you're bloody well right

Right, you're bloody well right
You know you got a right to say
Right, you're bloody well right
You know you got a right to say

Alright, picking up from Niagara Falls, let's talk some more about the Great Lakes. One of the most defining aspects of Canadian geography, In addition to Lake Ontario and Erie, The Great Lakes include Huron, Michigan and Superior. The great lakes are so important for drinking water and, historically,  transportation for Southern Ontario cities. 20% of the world’s fresh water is found in the Great Lakes.

8.05 - The Strumbellas - Lakes
I'm sticking with the Great Lakes theme to move from Southern Ontario up to the more Northern part of the province. Superior is the largest of the Great Lakes . As you move north in Ontario, there is much less population (75% of Canadian population lives within 100 miles of the US Border) as the temperatures get colder, the land less farmable and less inviting, this will be another recurring theme in my mix. Superior also borders Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin

9.14 - Jason Collett – Lake Superior
