I think this is the last one that has the element in the title (been too lazy to copy and paste lyrics the last couple days...)

Yeah, didn't fit my theme, maybe didn't fit others but it's a no brainer.
There's supposed to be a theme? I'm just throwing out songs I like across all genres.

(BTW...the MC version of that song is $h!+e)

Love this and have been enjoying the write ups.

I don't know why (ok, it's the gin), but the last couple drafts I pushed it a little too much with the way I made myself do my draft.  So this mix of the elements will be in order of groups of elements as you go left to right across the periodic table, and within the groups, the songs are in order of the atomic mass of the element I drafted it for.  :nerd:

So far we have:

ALKALI METALS:

Nirvana - Lithium

The The - Sodium Light Baby

Manic Street Preachers - Virginia State Epileptic Colony

ALKALINE EARTH METALS:

Jedi Mind Tricks - Neva Antiquated

Dr. Octagon - No Awareness

Blackalicious - Chemical Calisthenics

LL Cool J - Milky Cereal

TRANSITION METALS:

Lou Reed - Set the Twilight Reeling

Buffalo Tom - Rules

REM - Welcome to the Occupation

BASIC METALS:

MMJ - Aluminum Park

I'm just taking the same approach I did in college - have fun, do stuff that seems interesting and keep moving.

Back when he was in his early 20s, Merle Haggard spent 3 years at San Quinton for a robbery. He was drunk and tried to rob a restaurant that was still open. He got caught. While in prison an old inmate befriended him and taught him the ropes to surviving prison. Merle would play him songs on his guitar. The old inmate known as "Rabbit" worked in the wood-shop and was constructing a large desk for a judge. He told Merle he was going to escape by hiding in a drawer when the desk was moved out. Merle said he wanted to come too, but Rabbit said he would rather him not since he was young, had a life ahead of him, and had a unique gift for music. Rabbit was doing life in prison, and told Merle he had nothing to lose, and if he got caught he would not go quietly. Merle didn't escape with him, and Rabbit got caught within two weeks after getting into a shootout and killing a state trooper. Rabbit was sentenced to death, and back then you weren't on death row for decades. The day came for Rabbit to be put to death. Merle said "Even though the crime was brutal and the guy was an incorrigible criminal, it's a feeling you never forget when you see someone you know make that last walk. They bring him through the yard, and there's a guard in front and a guard behind - that's how you know a death prisoner. They brought Rabbit out...taking him to see the Father,...prior to his execution. That was a strong picture that was left in my mind."  As Rabbit walked his green mile, Merle waved at Rabbit and saw him point at Merle and ask the Warden if his guitar friend could play him one last song. After Rabbit was executed, Merle wrote this song as a tribute to his friend, and as a reminder of the spiritual power of a song. The lesson today in Theology class is music is the gateway to the soul.

10.xx - Sing Me Back Home - Merle Haggard

There's a link to the Google spreadsheet in the 2nd post under the draft order.
Yeah, I see that. That's how I make sure I'm not drafting Andre Johnson in the 12th round.

I meant all of the other drafts...i've seen these from time to time...the long name draft pops into my head right now.

Is there a master list of ALL of those drafts?

Someone definitely has a link to most of them. I'm relatively new to the drafts so it isn't me.

I'll have to search for the last JML draft.  I think it was the DID album draft we just did.  He usually links all the past drafts in the OP.

Teacher I Need You

Elton John 1973 - from "Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only The Piano Player"

Amazing that this song was never released as a single.

I was also in 8th grade at the time. My English teach, although not "long and she was lean," was in Playboy the year before.  Good times and great memories.

I was sitting in the classroom
Trying to look intelligent
In case the teacher looked at me
She was long and she was lean
She's a middle-aged dream
And that lady means the whole world to me

It's a natural achievement
Conquering my homework
With her image pounding in my brain

She's an inspiration
For my graduation
And she helps to keep the classroom sane

Oh teacher I need you like a little child
You got something in you to drive a schoolboy wild
You give me education in the lovesick blues
Help me get straight, come out and say
Teacher I, teacher I, teacher I, teacher I need you

I have to write a letter
Tell about my feelings
Just to let her know the scene
Focus my attention
On some further education
In connection with the birdies and the bees

So I'm sitting in the classroom
I'm looking like a zombie
I'm waiting for the bell to ring
I've got John Wayne stances
I've got Erroll Flynn advances
And it doesn't mean a doggone thing

Oh teacher I need you like a little child
You got something in you to drive a schoolboy wild
You give me education in the lovesick blues
Help me get straight, come out and say
Teacher I, teacher I, teacher I, teacher I need you

Round 9  La Cigarra  -  Linda Ronstadt

We are now taking a class on Hispanic influences on the US.  (La Ciigarra means the cicada.)

Linda can sing.  The band at our Oaxacan restaurant doesn't sound like this.

Damn didn't think anyone would take this. It was going to be the last song of my student/teacher crush songs . I snoozed and losed. :(

Iron Maiden- Hallowed be thy name, Religious studies

I'm waiting in my cold cell when the bell begins to chimeReflecting on my past life and it doesn't have much timeCause at 5 o'clock, they take me to the Gallows PoleThe sands of time for me are running low, yeah! When the priest comes to read me the last ritesI take a look through the bars at the last sightsOf a world that has gone very wrong for meCan it be that there's some sort of errorHard to stop the surmounting terrorIs it really the end, not some crazy dream?Somebody please tell me that I'm dreamingIt's not easy to stop from screamingThe words escape me when I try to speakTears flow, but why am I cryingAfter all I'm not afraid of dyingDon't I believe that there never is an endAs the guards march me out to the courtyardSomebody cries from a cell "God be with you"If there's a God then why has he let me go?As I walk my life drifts before meThough the end is near I'm not sorryCatch my soul, it's willing to fly awayMark my words, believe my soul lives onDon't worry now that I have goneI've gone beyond to seek the truthWhen you know that your time is close at handMaybe then you'll begin to understandLife down here is just a strange illusion.Yeah hallowed be thy nameYeah hallowed by thy nameYeah

Iron Maiden- Rime of the Ancient Mariner, English

Hear the rime of the ancient marinerSee his eye as he stops one of threeMesmerizes one of the wedding guestsStay here and listen to the nightmares of the sea.And the music plays on, as the bride passes byCaught by his spell and the mariner tells his tale.Driven south to the land of the snow and iceTo a place where nobody's beenThrough the snow fog flies on the albatrossHailed in God's name, hoping good luck it brings. And the ship sails on, back to the NorthThrough the fog and ice and the albatross follows on.The mariner kills the bird of good omenHis shipmates cry against what he's doneBut when the fog clears, they justify himAnd make themselves a part of the crime.Sailing on and on and north across the seaSailing on and on and north 'til all is calm. The albatross begins with it's vengeanceA terrible curse a thirst has begunHis shipmates blame bad luck on the marinerAbout his neck, the dead bird is hung. And the curse goes on and on at seaAnd the curse goes on and on for them and me."Day after day, day after day, We stuck nor breath nor motionAs idle as a painted ship upon a painted oceanWater, water everywhere andAll the boards did shrinkWater, water everywhere nor any drop to drink."There calls the marinerThere comes a ship over the lineBut how can she sail with no wind in her sails and no tide?She... onward she comesOnward she nears out of the sunSee, she has no crewShe has no life, wait but here's two.Death and she life in death, They throw their dice for the crewShe wins the mariner and he belongs to her now. Then, crew one by oneThey drop down dead, two hundred menShe, she, Life in Death. She lets him live, her chosen one."One after one by the star dogged moon, Too quick for groan or sighEach turned his face with a ghastly pangAnd cursed me with his eyeFour times fifty living men(And I heard nor sigh nor groan)With heavy thump, a lifeless lump, They dropped down one by one."The curse it lives on in their eyesThe mariner he wished he'd dieAlong with the sea creaturesBut they lived on, so did he.And by the light of the moonHe prays for their beauty not doomWith heart he blesses themGod's creatures all of them too. Then the spell starts to breakThe albatross falls from his neckSinks down like lead into the seaThen down in falls comes the rain.Hear the groans of the long dead seamenSee them stir and they start to riseBodies lifted by good spiritsNone of them speak and they're lifeless in their eyesAnd revenge is still sought, penance starts againCast into a trance and the nightmare carries on.Now the curse is finally liftedAnd the mariner sights his homeSpirits go from the long dead bodiesForm their own light and the mariner's left alone. And then a boat came sailing towards himIt was a joy he could not believeThe pilot's boat, his son and the hermit, Penance of life will fall onto him.And the ship it sinks like lead into the seaAnd the hermit shrives the mariner of his sins. The mariner's bound to tell of his storyTo tell this tale wherever he goesTo teach God's word by his own exampleThat we must love all things that God made. And the wedding guest's a sad and wiser manAnd the tale goes on and on and on.

Well, I guess I will try this again (damn computer).  I don't usually get much rap in the drafts I do, but that is going to change.  Lots of fantastic stuff out there to mine for our classes.  This one could be used for about 20 classes, but chemistry it is...

was waiting for you to grab this.

Other way too specific themes I was thinking about/working  on before going to the elements:

Anatomy with a minor of Women's Studies (all female singers with body parts in the titles, and mix order going from head to toe)

States - states in the title in order of when they became states

Criminal Justice:  1/2 of mix songs about different crimes, 1/4 about prison, 1/4 about capital punishment.  Liked this the best, but was too much of a downer.

Religion (kind of):  was going to try for the 10 Commandments, but about breaking the Commandments.  2 songs for each one.  There was one or two giving me fits.

9.xx  Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays

The silicon chip inside her head

Gets switched to overload.

And nobody's gonna go to school today,

She's going to make them stay at home.

And daddy doesn't understand it,

He always said she was as good as gold.

And he can see no reason

'Cause there are no reasons

What reason do you need to be shown?

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

I want to shoot

The whole day down.

The telex machine is kept so clean

As it types to a waiting world.

And mother feels so shocked,

Father's world is rocked,

And their thoughts turn to

Their own little girl.

Sweet 16 ain't so peachy keen,

No, it ain't so neat to admit defeat.

They can see no reasons

'Cause there are no reasons

What reason do you need to be shown?

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

I want to shoot

The whole day down.

All the playing's stopped in the playground now

She wants to play with her toys a while.

And school's out early and soon we'll be learning

And the lesson today is how to die.

And then the bullhorn crackles,

And the captain crackles,

With the problems and the how's and why's.

And he can see no reasons

'Cause there are no reasons

What reason do you need to die?

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

Tell me why?

I don't like Mondays.

I want to shoot

The whole day down.

10.xx  R.E.M. - Sad Professor

If we're talking about love

Then I have to tell you

Dear readers, I'm not sure where I'm headed

I've gotten lost before

I've woke up stone drunk

Face down in the floor

Late afternoon, the house is hot

I started, I jumped up

Everyone hates a bore

Everybody hates a drunk

This may be a lit invention

Professors muddled in their intent

To try to rope in followers

To float their malcontent

As for this reader, I'm already spent

Late afternoon, the house is hot

I started, I jumped up

Everyone hates a sad professor

I hate where I wound up

Dear readers, my apologies

I'm drifting in and out of sleep

Long silence presents the tragedies

Of love not the age get afraid

The surface hazy with attendant thoughts

A lazy eye metaphor on the rock

Late afternoon, the house is hot

I started, I jumped up

Everyone hates a bore

Everybody hates a drunk

Everyone hates a sad professor

I hate where I wound up

I hate where I wound up

Round 10  After Dark  -  Tito &Tarantula

The video (and the song) are from From Dusk Till Dawn.  That video just isn't safe for work at all.

A little Chicano Rock will set the mood.
