Just saw Great Lakes Swimmers in Ann Arbor. They are Canadian and have a lot of songs about water and rocks. It made me think of @Northern Voice

They played the Ark which is a small folk venue and most of the band wasn't there- more of a stripped down sound with just guitar and bass. It was cool and the singer's voice is outstanding but without the banjo,violin and drums, a lot of the songs were too similar, too quiet and too sad. They needed more variety.

Alright, I left off at Lake Superior, we'll continue our trek into Northern Ontario, with this great track from City and Colour (Dallas Green). I'm probably spending an inordinate time in Ontario in this draft, but I live here and it has a lot of different geography and climates and plus, the rest of the country hates Ontario anyway because it's seen as thinking it's more important than the rest, just because it has the most people, the biggest cities and the most important jobs/economy... Anyway, this song is full of weather and geographical metaphors that make it perfect for my mix.

Alright, finally we've made it all the way north. My mix here is definitely as bit more folky and acoustic than I usually go. We'll pick things up a bit but still stay in the same vein with a more uptempo rocker about Americans coming north to avoid the draft. This song is set in Thunder Bay - really really north. The things about it being so remote and desolate up North is that it’s a very good place to hideout. It’s common for criminals to head up there and it was also a popular place for draft dodgers. Thunder Bay is the most populous city in Northern Ontario, with just over 100 000 people. This is from Sam Roberts 2006 album, Chemical City, his best IMO. Roberts is another in a long line of mainstream-ish Canadian rock acts that made it big here without ever really cracking the US (other than border cities).

@Getzlaf15 - Can you make sure you include the Artist for your songs, especially when you go with someone doing a cover of a song like you did for "Don't You (Forget About Me)" - I would have likely gone with Simple Minds if I hadn't checked to make sure I was right!

Now as I get to school I hear the late bell ringing,runnning through the halls, I hear the glee club singing,and as I get to the office I can hardly speak,cause it's the third late pass that I got this week,so to my first class I run and don't walk,all I hear is my sneakers and the scratching of chalk,and as I get to the room I hear the teacher say,Mr. Young I'm very happy you could join us today,I try to sit down so I can take some notes,but I can't read what the kind next to me wrote,and if that wasn't enough to make my morning complete,as I try to get up, I find this gum on my seat,so with the seat stuck to me, I raised my hand,and said, exscuse me but can I go to the bathroom, maam?the teacher got upset, and she screamed out no,it's off the principal's office you go,
12 o'clock comes with mass hysteria,everybody rushes down to the cafeteria,picked up my tray to have Thursday's lunch,and as I tried the apple sauce, I heard it crunch,I'm running up the stairs with my front tooth broken,the nurse just laughed, and said you must be joking,I looked up at her with a smile on my face,no joke 'cause my front tooth is out of place,so I walked to school with ice on my lip,the nurse's late pass like a gun on my hip,my books are real heavey, I'm walking, I'm dragging,ain't no school lunch next week, I'm brown-bagging it,forget class, I'm a shoot some ball,with the late pass I got no trouble at all,but then the nurse walks up and says what do you know,

Lara and her piano player (I think it's Christian Bale between movies) start the song and she notices the crowd singing and just becomes overwhelmed...because they aren't singing Je T'aime, they are singing On T'aime which means WE Love you. Then emotions ensue.
