MixTape Draft - Back to School edition. Make your picks and post your mix! (1 Viewer)

I'm with Tasker. Had to make an executive decision last night. Just not able to wrap my head around it, and swamped with stuff. Plus, I'm too busy starting jail tat threads to participate.

:(

Hope everthing is ok, Marco  .
Thanks all. She was admitted to ICU with a narrowing of her main leg artery---had to have a Roto-Rooter job and a stent placed.

She's stable but has to remain in rehab now for a week or two.

Luckily I'd already taken this week off for my daughter's college visiting tour--I'd only been in Philly for 24 hours and had to fly back home.

Looking forward to the distraction of a music draft.

Clean up the draft order, and I will set up the spreadsheet tomorrow.

Am I correct assuming we want to keep track of the 'subject' of the song?

@Mr. Ected - here is the updated draft order without Tasker and rockaction.  Also a reminder that Zilla requested to stay at the corner if somebody else joined the draft.

I was thinking we'd want to know such and such song was for French Class. Was a theme how we were determining what class each song matched?
You are correct, but my thinking was:

1.  in the past we have had a little fun guessing WTF people were doing.  If somebody was drafting songs based on titles, the theme will probably be obvious anyway, but if we are going on lyrics it might be a little harder to figure out.

2.  I didn't want to put extra work on you having to keep track of 'subjects'

3.  People might be taking songs that could fit in different categories, and declaring when we draft means there is less flexibility.  If we allow swaps, again, more work for you.

Like Nothern Voice said, mine won't be a secret after about round 2-3 so it doesn't matter a ton to me.  I just wanted to have max flexibility for drafters and minimum work for you and the spreadsheet.

I know it's often the butt of jokes, but I love where I live. It's actually a very diverse state: beaches, farmland, forests, mountains, wealth, cool cities, small towns.... I've surely been to better places, but I'm content.

ETA: Plus I'm a 40 minute drive to NYC, which is nice.
Ditto, Garden Stater here as well, but 1/2 between Philly and NYC.  8A.

Not a big deal keeping track of subjects. In other drafts we draft by category!

It's up to you and the majority.

I just thought it would get taxing for you.  Some people might be doing specific 'classes', some might be doing songs that just mention "teacher" or "school" - generic terms that fit the draft, but aren't really in a category/class.

Sorry gang, it's been a crazy day and I still need to make up my mind which direction I'm going to go. I'll make my pick tomorrow.

I'll be pretty clear in my write ups where each song I pick will fit, but I'm fine if people want to wait to reveal their themes.

I am just going to say what my theme is. I have nothing to hide.
I might too since it will be known in a round or two anyway.

The plus side to doing that is that if people at the end of the draft have a similar idea, it gives them time to decide if they want to double up or look for something else before it gets to them.

I'm starting with a theme that will be known after my first pick. The second half of my draft will be subjects.

Unless I get sniped too much then I'll be going free style.

My theme is just the graduation requirements/schedule of classes that a typical student at my high school would go through.

3 math classes

3 science classes

4 social studies classes

4 English classes

Art

Gym

Health

3 electives

Depending on how things go, I may be more specific with the classes- eg. instead of science, actually break into biology, physics and chem to match the actual classes they take.

Love this idea.

Agreed.

My approach will not be as structured as llov80's is. I have songs that I want to draft (unless sniped!) that that will fit into the mix tape as a whole but may require stretching outside of a predetermined structure. The overall theme will be school related but it probably wont be obvious until it all comes together in the end.

Mine is similar, have it broken down into 4 quarters of 5 classes.

Mine is similar but specific to me. I had a major and three minors, along with 4 years of grad school  so I'll be using those subjects.

Nice.  I thought about doing this as well - think of specific classes that I had in college and doing a mix on that.

I'm going to be out of pocket for most of next week travelling - so I think I need to sit this one out. Sorry. I love these drafts so hopefully I can make it back into the next one.

@KarmaPolice - Here is the beginnings of the spread sheet. I will add the other pages of the sheet as we move on with the draft.

Let me know if there are any adjustments!
I went ahead an set up some extra sheets. If I overstepped, just delete them. But like I said, I was bored
NICE!

The 'Songs by Alpha' sheet is counting the title row as one of the 'songs,' so a test song I put in named "b" went in on first row. Easy fix?

We'll start things off with a bang.

Yo Mama U needs a theme song and a fight song and there are none better than this. I'll be drafting 21 songs (4 quarters, 5 classes each + 1 badass fight song), so this short 1:26 song won't make Eephus too mad at me.

1.01 - Yo Mama University Fight Song

Fu*k School - The Replacements

I'll probably be missing out on some classic class songs by taking this number one, but picture this at games (Rock Chalk Jayhawk style):

One side: FUUUUUUUUU*K!

Other side: SCHOOOOOOL!

One side: FUUUUUUUUU*K!

Other side: SCHOOOOOOL!

Both Sides: FUUU*K MYYY SCHOOOOL!!!

I have to run. It is odd. Never happened before. I added an a to the song column. Works for now. Ill look later

It was hard deciding which way to go with the start of the draft here, but @Eephus has been making me think about the flow of these mixes.  There is one song on my mix that is the only one that I think will be sniped, but I have a backup plan and a song that I think will fit almost as well.  This one, however, I think fits the end of the mix a little better and will be missed more.

Here starts our lesson in Chemistry.  More specifically the elemental building blocks:

1.2:  THE B-52'S - PRIVATE IDAHO

LINK

Keep off the path, beware of the gate
Watch out for signs that say "hidden driveways"
Don't let the chlorine in your eyes
Blind you to the awful surprise
That's been waitin' for you at
The bottom of the bottomless blue, blue, blue pool

1-3.  Could go a bunch of ways here but this has high snipe potential. I'll add link when I'm not using phone.

Van Halen- Hot for Teacher

How's your mom doing today?
She's adjusting to her new surroundings in rehab.  She's still a little confused from her ICU stay and surgery so she's a bit combative with staff and isn't the most compliant patient with regard to walking without assistance so that's been a bit stressful.  I'm worried she's going to fall down and end up back in the hospital---I feel compelled to sit at her bed/chair side constantly to prevent that, which is becoming very tiresome after 5 straight days.

On the bright side, I think she's gradually improving daily so I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.  My mother-in-law offered to sit with her this afternoon so I'm actually getting a break, watching the Masters, and about to make a stiff cocktail---it's been a long week.  :banned:

Thanks for asking.
