1.14 - Constantines - Trans Canada

The Trans-Canada highway spans the length of the country East to West, Atlantic to Pacific. It's over 8000 kilometers long.
My theme is going to be Canadian Geography. I'm starting on the East Coast and going coast to coast. East coast rock has a somewhat distinct sound that most other areas of the country don't have. It feels lighter. Joel Plaskett is probably the king of the East Coast sound right now. He has a distinctive voice and thoughtful lyrics, he's really good.

I'm going to be trying to actually touch on the geography of the country where I can, rather than just songs naming places. This one is about the harbour towns on the East Coast of Canada - mostly fishing villages with small populations. Plaskett grew up in a fishing village (though his dad was a musician as well - the two are touring together next month). This song references "the sun going down upon the bay" with references to autumn leaves, summer nights, devastating skies - very fitting for the East Coast climate and for my Canadian Geography curriculum.

2.04 - Joel Plaskett - Harbour Boys

Faster as the years go by
Clouds are scrolling cross our sky
If we get held by higher powers
It’s only in the final hours
After that we’ll get some rest
Until then let’s make a mess
Sun goes down upon the bay
Looking for somewhere to play
I came here to bring the noise
To the island girls and the harbour boys

Don't think you need to worry much about sniping then

Don't push me 'cause I'm close to the edge
I'm trying not to lose my head

It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under
It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how I keep from goin' under

My son said, Daddy, I don't wanna go to school
'Cause the teacher's a jerk, he must think I'm a fool
And all the kids smoke reefer, I think it'd be cheaper
If I just got a job, learned to be a street sweeper
Or dance to the beat, shuffle my feet
Wear a shirt and tie and run with the creeps
'Cause it's all about money, ain't a damn thing funny
You got to have a con in this land of milk and honey
They pushed that girl in front of the train
Took her to the doctor, sewed her arm on again
Stabbed that man right in his heart
Gave him a transplant for a brand new start
I can't walk through the park 'cause it's crazy after dark
Keep my hand on my gun 'cause they got me on the run
I feel like a outlaw, broke my last glass jaw
Hear them say "you want some more?"
Livin' on a see-saw

I know what songs you've picked so far from the lyrics, but it might help in the future to list the song title and artist somewhere in your post.  I'm dumb like that.

Man, I didn't know (again) this would be so tangential. I'll have a mix at the end; brief, no mess, no stress. Three credits or two, up to you.

@rockaction  You are still welcome to join if you want.

I kept saying that this one could be as easy as you want it.  I would guess very few songs don't have lyrics that you could use for some kind of school theme.

Heh, KP. I know you did. I'm really just saying you guys are doing a great job. I'll chime in at the end, and hopefully pull off something cool. Sort of a Tuesday Thursday 2:30-3:50 schedule.

Take care, fellas.

Oh, I'm in if you guys will have me. Just let me know when I'm on the clock. I need something to do over the next week, and this seems as good as place to start as any.

2.xx - 3rd Planet - Modest Mouse

Astronomy, Ethics, Religion, Biology - Interdisciplinary studies

Everything that keeps me together is falling apart
I've got this thing that I consider my only art
Of ####### people over.
My boss just quit the job
Says he goin' to find blind spots
And he'll do it.

The 3rd planet is sure that they're being watched
By an eye in the sky that can't be stopped.
When you get to the promise land
Your gonna shake that eyes hand.

Your heart felt good
It was drippin' pitch and made out of wood.
And your hands and knees
Felt cold and wet on the grass to me.
Outside naked, shiverin' looking blue,
From the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon.
Baby cum angles fly around you
Reminding you we used to be three and not just two.

And that's how the world began.
And that's how the world will end.

A third planet had just been made
And we were swimming in the water,
Didn't know then was it a son was it a daughter.
When it occurred to me that the animals are swimming
Around in the water in the oceans in our bodies
And another had been found another ocean on the planet
Given that our blood is just like the Atlantic.
And how.

The universe is shaped exactly like the earth
If you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were.
Everything that keeps me toghther
Is falling apart I got this thing
I consider my only art and ####### people over

Not that we ever do a timer over the weekend, but just to be clear- the draft officially starts on Monday and since we are through the first round, the 1 hour timer will start on Monday too.  We can keep drafting w/o a clock over the weekend, and the timer will start at 10am est on Monday.

Again, I really like the variety of mixes - exactly what I was hoping for, and I knew you :nerd: s wouldn't let me down.

Round 2: Iron Maiden, The Trooper, History

https://youtu.be/2G5rfPISIwo

You'll take my life but I'll take yours tooYou'll fire your musket but I'll run you throughSo when you're waiting for the next attackYou'd better stand there's no turning back. The Bugle sounds and the charge beginsBut on this battlefield no one winsThe smell of acrid smoke and horses breathAs I plunge on into certain death. The horse he sweats with fear we break to runThe mighty roar of the Russian gunsAnd as we race towards the human wallThe screams of pain as my comrades fall.We hurdle bodies that lay on the groundAnd the Russians fire another roundWe get so near yet so far awayWe won't live to fight another day.We get so close near enough to fightWhen a Russian gets me in his sightsHe pulls the trigger and I feel the blowA burst of rounds take my horse below. And as I lay there gazing at the skyMy body's numb and my throat is dryAnd as I lay forgotten and aloneWithout a tear I draw my parting groan

I had this on my list initially but went with a different theme so had to drop it.  One of my favorite songs.
Yeah, I darn near joined the draft to draft the first two songs (exaggeration). I've always thought that "And your hands and knees/Felt cold and wet on the grass to me" is probably the most non-sexual potential sex song I've ever heard. It's weirdly erotically plaintive, if that makes any sense.

@Mrs. Rannous is OTCNC

Perfect pick with that Nirvana song.  Would have fit in with 'Zilla's theme perfectly too. (I have been obsessed with trying to find songs that I think would fit his theme today).

I picked School's Out and School Daze to be the bookends for my draft - to be honest, probably just plan on picking the songs that make me think of summer for the in between.

Holy #### - I didn't realize we are almost through round 2.
Moved quickly today. I haven't started a Spotify megamix. Seems more and more people are drafting with the final mix and flow in mind, so maybe just sticking to the individual mixes is what we want? I don't mind starting it again, but I would make it collaborative, it's tough to catchup once I'm a couple rounds behind in it.
