MixTape Draft - Back to School edition. Make your picks and post your mix! (1 Viewer)

so... @Northern Voice - how many secondary themes and mixes do you have?
Haha, I have three or four but they aren't too fleshed out. I put way too much effort into my primary mix, like a couple nights making sure I had the right songs, pre written descriptions of the Geography and the songs etc... and still I'm second guessing my upcoming pick :bag:

The Spotify factor just clipped my draft queue by 3 songs---three that I really wanted on the mix. Damn. Going to make things a little dicier.

Sounds like me.  Was still tweaking my mix this afternoon, and have been working on a couple other mixes.  One was a U.S. Geography "class".  Specifically...

Songs about the 50 states, but the draft mix is in order of when they became states.

Fun shtick would be a world Geography mix with nothing but Pitbull songs. I don't know his stuff near well enough to pull that off, but @Steve Tasker might?

In the Folklore section, we have this Celtic story:

Round 2  Cruel Sister  - Pentangle

There lived a lady by the North Sea shoreLay the bent to the bonnie broomTwo daughters were the babes she boreFa la la la la la la la la laAs one grew bright as is the sunLay the bent to the bonnie broomSo coal black grew the elder oneFa la la la la la la la la laA knight came riding to the lady's doorLay the bent to the bonnie broomHe'd traveled far to be their wooerFa la la la la la la la la laHe courted one with gloves and ringsLay the bent to the bonnie broomBut he loved the other above all thingsFa la la la la la la la la laOh, sister will you go with meLay the bent to the bonnie broomTo watch the ships sail on the sea?Fa la la la la la la la la laShe took her sister by the handLay the bent to the bonnie broomAnd led her down to the North Sea strandFa la la la la la la la la laAnd as they stood on the windy shoreLay the bent to the bonnie broomThe dark girl threw her sister overFa la la la la la la la la laSometimes she sank, sometimes she swamLay the bent to the bonnie broomCrying, "Sister, reach to me your hand"Fa la la la la la la la la laOh sister, sister, let me liveLay the bent to the bonnie broomAnd all that's mine I'll surely giveFa la la la la la la la la laYour own true love that I'll have and moreLay the bent to the bonnie broomBut thou shalt never come ashoreFa la la la la la la la la la

And there she floated like a swanLay the bent to the bonnie broomThe salt sea bore her body onFa la la la la la la la la laTwo minstrels walked along the strandLay the bent to the bonnie broomAnd saw the maiden float to landFa la la la la la la la la laThey made a harp of her breastboneLay the bent to the bonnie broomWhose sound would melt a heart of stoneFa la la la la la la la la laThey took three locks of her yellow hairLay the bent to the bonnie broomAnd with them strung the harp so rareFa la la la la la la la la laThey went into her father's hallLay the bent to the bonnie broomTo play the harp before them allFa la la la la la la la la laBut when they laid it on a stoneLay the bent to the bonnie broomThe harp began to play aloneFa la la la la la la la la laThe first string sang a doleful soundLay the bent to the bonnie broomThe bride her younger sister drownedFa la la la la la la la la laThe second string as that they triedLay the bent to the bonnie broomIn terror sits the black-haired brideFa la la la la la la la la laThe third string sang beneath their bowLay the bent to the bonnie broomAnd surely now her tears will flowFa la la la la la la la la la

If this is your freshman level course, I can hardly wait for the upper division course.  Are we going to grad school, too?
Haha. I suppose this a bit advanced.

A basic Rock and Roll drum beat though is fairly simple and is essential for any young drummer to learn because the notes of the groove normally stay within the beat. This song is definitely advanced due to its breakneck speed and the iconic intro but the fundamentals are there.

A genre like Jazz or Prog would be on an advanced lesson plan as we would find more offbeat notes and odd tempos in these grooves.

:nerd:

Im still searching for professors to teach the advanced lesson plans. Prof Peart hasn't returned my calls.

So what teacher am I hot for? My science teacher- Miss Sakamoto

RD 2 Thomas Dolby- she blinded me with science

Nice choice!

I can't remember one hot teacher I had :kickrock:

Closest was a super cute college student that was a TA for our AP Chem class.

However, at my son's school there are some lovely ladies that work in the office...

Ah.. so this is all a drum class?

Looks like I am up.

I will take the low hanging fruit for my theme, and go with the song that will start my mix and one of them that has the element in the title.  Here we continue on with our chemistry lesson...

2.xx:  NIRVANA - LITHIUM

Oops, was Rosa Parks, Outkast.

Accidentally deleted my post.

Was going to take this if you didn't.

Mrs. Cozzulino - 11th grade Math
Sadly, I didn't have any hot high school or college profs.  But our 5th grade teacher, Ms Richards had competed in the miss fitness universe pageant a year or two before our class.  she got married when we were in 6th grade, broke a lot of 11 year old hearts.

Well, I guess I will try this again (damn computer).  I don't usually get much rap in the drafts I do, but that is going to change.  Lots of fantastic stuff out there to mine for our classes.  This one could be used for about 20 classes, but chemistry it is...

3.02:  JEDI MIND TRICKS - NEVA ANTIQUATED

LINK

Of weak minded emcees getting caught up in my hurdles
Of chemical disruptions, by sodium chloride, potassium, denatonium benzote

With my first pick in the draft, I will select

For that Billy Joel that @-OZ-took, I still think he's saying "trouble in the sewers," just like I thought he was back in like eleventh grade or whatever.

It's funny, I'll never get that line right even though my Middle East history and geography is a bit more fleshed out than it was back then.

I have to admit this is nothing like I thought it would be when I first started researching. If I knew all that needed to cover a topic was the name of a song then it would have went a lot easier.
