MixTape Draft - Back to School edition. Make your picks and post your mix! (1 Viewer)

Rd 4  A More Perfect Union - Titus Andronicus  1 credit of social studies

As a nation of free men, we will live forever, or die by suicide.
Heh. You stole my credit idea!

Love it.

On the other hand, this was going to be my "worst metaphor" way back when in that draft we had years ago. Moving from New Jersey to Tufts is a luxury, not a Civil War, really.

Oh, God, I hope my criticism goes over well here. I've always wanted to write it, but everybody loves this song (as do I) so much as to not point out its potential ridiculousness. At least you're not giving it points for metaphor!

The cold climate will be a recurring theme in any mixtape about Canadian geography worth its (ice melting) salt. There is obviously a different route I can go for a Montreal band singing songs about a big winter storm that knocks the power out and forces lovers to dig tunnels and such, but instead I'll go with this:

Malajube - Montreal -40

Yeah, it's a bit of an odd concept album, but the song rocks.

@-OZ- - You are up!
Thanks.

Can someone add the sheet to the first page?

I'll assume One, Metallica isn't taken.  Military science / Veterans affairs

Yes, it's anti war and angry but it's among the best songs ever written

One is an anti-war song and was inspired in the book Johnny Got His Gun. The novel talks about a World War I soldier named Bonham who after stepping a landmine lost his face, arms and legs, and with it all his senses. Doctors kept him alive, in what was believed to be a vegetative state. However, the soldier’s mind remained undamaged. Bonham felt like a prisoner in his own body as it is perfectly described in One’s lyrics “I cannot live/ I cannot die/ Trapped in myself/ Body my holding cell.”

The soldier’s despair is so grave that he tries to suffocate himself only to realize that it would be impossible due to a tracheotomy that had been performed. This feeling too was transcribed to the song’s lyrics “Hold my breath as I wish for death/ Oh please, God wake me.”

Furthermore, the passage from “Johnny Got His Gun” that served as an inspiration for the song was:

“How could a man lose as much of himself as I have and still live? When a man buys a lottery ticket you never expect him to win because it’s a million to one shot. But if he does win, you’ll believe it because one in a million still leaves one. If I’d read about a guy like me in the paper I wouldn’t believe it, cos it’s a million to one. But a million to ONE always leaves one. I’d never expect it to happen to me because the odds of it happening are a million to one. But a million to one always leaves one. One.”

You're good-to-go with "One."

The link is in the second post, but here it is anyway...

Round 4

Baggy Trousers - Madness

Naughty boys in nasty schools
Headmasters breaking all the rules
Having fun and playing fools
Smashing up the woodwork tools
All the teachers in the pub
Passing 'round the ready-rub
Trying not to think of when
The lunch-time bell will ring again.

Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to...

The headmaster's had enough to-day
All the kids have gone away
Gone to fight with next-door's school
Every term, that is the rule
Sits alone and bends his cane
Same old backsides again
All the small ones tell tall tales
Walking home and squashing snails.
Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.
Lots of girls and lots of boys
Lots of smells and lots of noise
Playing football in the park
Kicking Pushbikes after dark
Baggy trousers, dirty shirt
Pulling hair and eating dirt
Teacher comes to break it up
Back of the 'ead with a plastic cup.
Oh what fun we had
But, did it really turn out bad
All I learnt at school
Was how to bend not break the rules
Oh what fun we had
But at the time it seemed so bad
Trying different ways
To make a difference to the days.
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers
Baggy trousers, baggy trousers, baggy trousers

Ace of Spades - Motorhead

I've picked a few classic songs already and here's yet another hit. Just trying to stay in line with the upbeat speed of my mix so far.

And don't forget the joker!

I see a trend with these Acer Drafts.
In fairness, I didnt really understand the theme. That was my fault. I thought we were drafting songs that taught us stuff. This seemed like a no brainer for a theme. But who doesnt like a Maiden mix tape. Amirite

4.xx  Pixies - U-Mass

In the sleepy West

Of the woody East

Is a valley full

Full o' pioneer

We' re not just kids

To us that' s dear

Like capitalism

Like communism

Like lots of things

You've heard about

And redneckers

They get us pissed

And stupid stuff

It makes us shout

Oh dance with me

Oh don't be shy

Oh kiss me ####

Oh kiss me ####

Oh kiss the world

Oh kiss the sky

Oh kiss my ###

Oh let it rock

Of the April birds

And the may bee

Oh baby

It' s educational [Repeat x8]

Here's one for Science and it just happens to fit into my theme in this spot-  4th RD- guns n roses-rocket queen.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5j6WdDC183izbbjedKsSAe

If I say I don't need anyone
I can say these things to you
'Cause I can turn on anyone
Just like I've turned on you
I've got a tongue like a razor
A sweet switchblade knife
And I can do you favors
But then you'll do whatever I like

Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen
I might be a little young
But honey I ain't naive
Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen oh yeah
I might be too much
But honey you're a bit obscene

I've seen everything imaginable
Pass before these eyes
I've had everything that's tangible
Honey you'd be surprised
I'm a sexual innuendo
In this burned out paradise
If you turn me on to anything
You better turn me on tonight

Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen
I might be a little young
But honey I ain't naive
Here I am
And you're a Rocket Queen oh yeah
I might be too much
But honey you're a bit obscene

Believe it or not, one of my anthropology courses was called "Advanced Non-Ordinary Reality".  And it wasn't a basket weaving course.  It deals with reality from alternate points of view, such as the blind, people on drugs, other cultures, other religions, etc.  Lots of songs work here.

Proababy just being paranoid, but I feel like I need to take the rap I want for the mix early with Yo Mama grabbing some too.  Not sure we are on the same wavelength with it, but I will grab one that again could be for a ton of classes, and mentions an element that fits and would be very hard to find in another decent song...

5.02:  CANIBUS - MASTER THESIS

LINK

I wish I could've learned more
About the shapes of the sacred geometry they used to draw
They were new millennium but Euclidian in form
Ancient in many ways but not nearly as old
Carved from Egyptian gold molded in Assyria
With processed Beryllium by the quintillion
