"Momentum" - Feedback Requested (1 Viewer)

satch

Footballguy
Hey everyone,

Many of you were kind enough to listen to my last track, "Into the Abyss", and provide much appreciated constructive feedback. Your opinions, thoughts, suggestions, etc, both positive and negative, really are very helpful and I appreciate your time.

Below is a link to my latest track called "Monentum". This one has a very different vibe. Would be awesome  if you could take a couple minutes to listen and let me know what you think. Again, if you could listen all the way through that would be great, as there are various parts to I'd love feedback on.

Thanks a lot, hope you enjoy it! By the way, feel free to "like" and/or download (free) any of my tracks. It helps my position on local charts. I appreciate the support!

Cool.  I like it.  My only suggestion would be to lose the static/record-scratch effect towards the middle-end of the song.   Just messes up an otherwise clean-sounding recording IMO.

Good tune for me to work by...

Thanks for listening, glad you like it. You suggest eliminating entire scratching section? Hmm, that's great feedback. Sometimes afterworking on a tune for a long time you get attached to certain parts if it, when in reality certain parts may just not fit. Will be interesting to see if others agree, or perhaps some will like that part.

really impressive stuff, satch- I was into really into this genre for a bit, and damn- it sounds.. well.. professional.

only thing I'd throw out there- and this is totally subjective to my tastes... I like songs that rise and fall or build to something. I'd say to add a bridge or change up the tempos and maybe layers of instrumentation a bit. strip some stuff away to just a beat and maybe one melodic line... dunno. I know it's supposed to be a chill groove where you're hanging out somewhere and just bopping your head along- and totally works for that... but I'd prefer more of a variation.

Really impressive stuff and right up my alley.

I like the scratching part.  It can be difficult in instrumentals to determine some sort of song structure, I think the scratch part is a natural bridge, albeit maybe a little too short.  The little bit of distortion is a nice break from the repeated melody from the rest of the song.

Are you familiar with Lotus?  Because this sounds a lot like something they'd make - and I mean that as a definite compliment.  I'd love to know what kind of equipment you're using.  This type of music performed with a live band replacing some of your production would be a hit, I think.  Something like this.

Thank you very much. I know exactly what you mean by building the song up/down and stripping/adding layers to keep things interesting. That's definitely something that I'm I'd like to get more creative with, and great feedback.

Thanks! You're right about the challenge of song structure in instrumentals. Much different than composing a song with vocals.

I've never heard of Lotus, but that track sounds cool. I especially like the intro. Thanks for the tip, I need to start listening to more of this genre.

As far as the equipment I'm using, all three of the tracks I've posted have been produced 100% on my iPhone, using multiple apps, synths, effects, etc, then mastered uding Final Touch on iPad.

I'm considering involving some live guitar playing, but to be honest, I'm having a lot if fun using the current methods and it's getting me into a style of music that's new and refreshing for me. Adding live instruments also adds another significant step to the process which could create a drag on what's otherwise a relatively fluid process.

I'm also considering getting/incorporating a live Rhodes, but no immediate plans.

Yeah, this is kind of a boss intro to something that never happens. Your core is still veryvery strong, but i'm afraid you're going to have to cross song ideas. In my own experience, many are the times i've had riffs, themes, structures that were strong enough for really good songs on their own but became great when i saw where they could fuse with another of my ideas. The whole purpose of art is to be great, grand, collossal - if even in the smallest, most private of ways.

Even Abyss could have used a breakaway, a walk farther up the scale or another one running down to meet it, to make its honesty truly majestic. This one's incomplete. If you can't find a bridge, you're going to have to at least Bolero it. I felt the Momentum, though, so you're on the right track.

hfs, dude... that's amazing!

Pretty cool. Not my thing but I liked it. The scratch track isn't bad, imo but it could be pulled back a bit in the mix. Good stuff!

yes.   Also at about the 3 minute mark the guitar is solid.  More of that-the guitar with the momentum changing up & down.   nice track.

I get what you mean about meshing multiple song ideas into one song. Definitely something worth considering. On this one I wasn't really going for anything epic, just an uptempo, get your blood flowing kinda vibe. On Abyss, I was going for something more epic.
