Packers coach Mike McCarthy revealed Monday that MLB Nick Barnett needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his knee. He will be placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Desmond Bishop is next on the depth chart, but Green Bay may also explore moving AJ Hawk or Brandon Chillar to the middle with Brady Poppinga staying outside. The Packers have lost three key defenders for the year in Barnett, Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila, and Cullen Jenkins and they will need to continue making big plays to remain a valuable fantasy defense. That will be more difficult without their best linebacker. Green Bay is currently 28th against the run and will likely continue to struggle there.

It happened in this weeks game, the bad play the rest of the year has been just that, bad play.Hopefully this gives AJ a chance to mone into the middle where he belongs and establish himself for the long term.

That's true, but if he takes a bad team to the playoffs this year the Packers get an extra draft pick, unlike last year when he took a bad team to the playoffs and the Pack got nothing. So there's that, atleast.

That's true, but if he takes a bad team to the playoffs this year the Packers get an extra draft pick, unlike last year when he took a bad team to the playoffs and the Pack got nothing. So there's that, atleast.

The draft pick traded for Favre turns into a third-round selection if he plays in 50 percent of the plays this season, a second-rounder if he plays in 70 percent of the plays and the Jets qualify for the playoffs, and a first-round pick if he plays in 80 percent of the plays and Jets make it to the Super Bowl.
