Morning Routines (1 Viewer)

Get up at 6:00 (most days)

Pee

Fix a cup of coffee

Shave - use the Amazon Echo to get weather and news updates while I shave - drink coffee

Poop (if necessary and have one in the chamber)

Brush teeth

Heat up Shower

Check weight for Otis' weight loss competition

Lay out clothes real quick while water heats up

Shower - Amazon Echo music - I play a few songs on a rotation which gives me an idea of how long I'm taking in the shower - if I don't sometimes I'll lollygag

Dress

Get all my stuff together

Fix a 2nd cup of travel coffee (when wanted)

Kiss the wife goodbye

Drive to the bus stop

Catch the 7:10 bus to the office

Listen to music and check work email - if I'm really busy with work stuff I will work on the bus.  Bus has WiFi which is really nice.

Arrive at work ~8:00am

Check schedule to make sure I don't have any early meetings or deliverables/emails that need immediate attention

Grab breakfast in our food court

   completely left out FBG monitoring - typically grab my phone when the alarm goes off and check to see if there's any threads I want to quickly scan while I lay in bed to wake up.  Typically do that until the first snooze and then get up for the above routine.  On the bus if I don't have to work I sometimes spend most of the ride reading/posting here.

Wake up between 7:30 and 8:00:

  • Check email the moment my eyes open (bad habits are hard to break)
  • Shower/Shave put my suit on
  • Make breakfast (surprised at how few people eat breakfast)
  • Clean up, do dishes etc
  • Head out - 30-45 min
I would like to cut 15-20 off of this routine but it is hard w/breakfast.  Typically it is closer to the 45 min.
Curious why you dress before making/eating breakfast - especially a suit.  Seems like it'd be easier/safer to eat first then get dressed.

Wake up, fall out of bed, drag a comb across my head, find my way downstairs and have a cup, look up and notice I'm late, find my coat, grab my hat, get to the bus... you know, typical day in the life
John and George aren't with us anymore, so are you Paul or Ringo?

Sounds like you need to start by just getting up, and not getting back into bed, when the alarm goes off.  Best way to accomplish this is to have the alarm clock NOT within reach of the bed.

Having other people define the rest of your start sounds strange to me.  You know what needs to get done.  Just make a checklist of it all and how long it takes you.  Go from there.
I think the distant alarm clock is a good idea, but my wife may kill me.  I'm not sure if I have an issue with the snooze button or not enough stuff to do in the morning to justify getting up.  I am able to procrastinate my morning away due to no process or routine.

My morning routine has changed my life:

1. Wake up early and immediately make a bullet proof coffee

2. Drink coffee by myself and talk to God

3. Once the coffee is done I work for about 1.5 hours - I spend this time on the work that requires a lot of creativity or focus.

4. Have breakfast

5. Shower/shave etc...

6. hop on my bike and head to the office.

7. have another cup of coffee

I should add - I don't check email until I get to the office.
I really like this - both the personal coffee time and the early morning work.  I want to incorporate both into my routine.  I'm trying to figure out if it would be more valuable to throw exercise in here or later in the day.  I have been walking on average an hour/day, but it has been more late afternoon/evening.

That is a good question and i don't really have a good answer....Probably because i don't want to look at my fatazz in the mirror after eating a full breakfast :)

Yikes - 2 full hours have passed from waking up to actually starting work.  If you work until 6 or 7 those are long days.

I like hiking early in the AM. It gives me more energy for the rest of the day.  I tend to sleep much better when i have worked out that day as well.  You'll get there

They are but I don't stay at the office until 6 or 7.  I'm typically out by 4 - as mentioned I work on the bus (there and back) and frequently do some work in the evenings.  My days are almost always 12 hours from the time I get up to the time I get home. 2-3 hours of that time is commute.  Yes, it sucks but being on the bus with Wifi really helps, as does my work being flexible.  I occasionally have a 4:00-5:00 meeting but almost never after 5:00.

The best I could do is save 10 minutes or so if I really rushed myself but 1. I would hate doing that and 2. I have to make my schedule work with the bus schedule

If not traveling which screws everything up:

Weekday option 1: wake up, turn on coffee maker, shower, drink coffee, watch news or Dan Patrick, internet, make smoothie, get ready, out the door. Whole process is about 1 hour 15 minutes or so.

Weekday option 2: wake up, coffee in to go mug, out the door in about 10 minutes, power bar or something in car, pickup basketball game.

Weekend: wakeup, coffee, shower at some point, do whatever.

Sounds like my start

Ideally...

Wake up at 615

Make coffee

Use bathroom

Shower

Eat

Dress

Go to work at 715

Realistically...

Wake up at 7

Bathroom

Shower

Dress

Grab granola bar

Go to work at 730

Get up at 5 am

Morning dump

Morning weigh in

Eat a yogurt

20 miles on exercise bike

Shower

Eggs and sausage for breakfast either at home or at work

I would like to add this. I work from home, but most of the time I get up in the morning with my husband when he leaves for work. If I stay up and start working early or even do stuff around the house I feel much better than if I go back to bed and get up in a hour or 2.

I've tried working out in the morning but I feel like it throws the day off for some reason.

I recently found another 1.5 hours in my days most days, which makes a huge difference in my overall health and wellbeing.

I use the iPhone Sleep function in the time app, which basically sets a bedtime (9:30) and a wake up time (5am) that applies four days a week. Those days I do the following:

- up at 5am

- shave, brush teeth

- head to gym and arrive around 5:15

- lift weights (PHUL routine), read and respond to some work emails in between sets, and get home around 6:15am

- set our breakfast for the family, have coffee while I do work email for 30 mins while watching CNN to finish clearing out inbox from overnight

- deuce and shower, head to the train at 8, at my desk a little after 9

Rinse, repeat. Finding the time in the morning to work out and empty my inbox and clear my thoughts/plan my day before I used to even wake up has been a game changer. Been doing it just a few months, but it has "stuck."

Set coffee timer night before.

Wake up (5-630am depending on how busy at work) and come downstairs to already made coffee.

During the week, turn on computer, start working, drink a boatload of coffee, take a #2

Shower, leave for work

On the weekend, I usually bike

I used to exercise in the morning before work; it sounds to me that you should try that... giving you a reason to get up. Mentally it's awesome to be outside leaving to exercise while the sun is coming up. It always makes me feel super productive and good knowing that I'm up bettering myself so early. It leads to good days and takes the edge off right away (for me anyway).

Totally agree with this, though I generally still wake up at the same time to keep my body on schedule, and I'll try to get to the hotel gym as normal when possible.
You are better than me on the hotel gym. I just can't motivated to do those. I try to stretch and some light stuff like planks, pushups, etc for a few minutes in morning or evening but honestly I usually just end up eating and mostly drinking poorly. Do walk a lot more I think when I travel.

Biggest hurdle I have as I get older.

I stayed at the Four seasons this week and they had a kickass gym. I went on one of my scheduled days and did basically my normal workout which was great. Didn't make it the next scheduled day. So I was 1 for 2. Its hard in hotels and my record isn't perfect, but I try.

That is a great question.  Probably late morning, but I'm not really sure.  I have flashes of brilliance all over the place.
I would honestly try to pay attention to this a little more as the first step.  If you are not a morning person, put easier but necessary tasks in the earlier morning and make sure the most important ones and/or those that require the most focus are scheduled when you are at your best.

Awaken, hit snooze, wake up, brush teef, shower, deodorant, flonase, cologne, clothe, put on watch, comb hair, feed the turds, pack lunch, make coffee for travel mug, fill up water bottle, kiss her goodbye, put the dog up, plug in bluetooth fm transmitter, then finally off to work.

You forgot when you smack me around the chess board a bit.

6:10 - Alarm

6:11 - Snooze

6:19 - Up

6:20 - Shower

6:30 - Dress, brush, etc.

6:35 - Grab coffee wife has ready for me.

6:37 - Grab briefcase

6:38 - in car

7:00 - Arrive at work

I have trouble with Focus also.  I would not call it active procrastination, but if I receive a call about subject X I may go down a rabbit hole with that for an hour and forget about project y for a bit.  I am starting to implement the following methodologies into my time management skilllset (Pomodoro Technique, Get Things Done, Bullet Journal, and Utilizing MS OneNote.)

Here is mine:

6:35 Wake up to alarm, hit snooze

6:40 Wake up to alarm, hit snooze

6:45 Wake up to alarm, hit snooze

6:50 Wake up to alarm, hit snooze

6:55 Wake up to alarm, hit snooze

7:00 Wake up and panic brush my teeth/put on suit. Grab my supplements, get in car and drive bus stop. Take a nap on bus for 30 minutes. Get to work 10-20 minutes late. Go take a deuce and grab breakfast in the tunnels.

Just got promoted yesterday as well.

Really surprised at all the pooping going on in here.  I can't remember the last time I took a #### in the morning before leaving for work.

Get up at 4:30, shower, coffee, take dump, pay bills/pour over the home and business budget, freak out a little, then speed off to work.

Oh, and if the dog happens to think there's something good to chase at 3:30, move that whole timeline up an hour. He's big and boisterous, and when I get up, I can't go back to sleep.
