Moss long term value in MIN (1 Viewer)

Sorry for the new thread, didn't see this discussed in the "big" Moss thread.

I'm in the camp that believes Moss is far from done. To this end, among the interesting plot lines here is his long term value in MIN. This year is intriguing with Favre at QB, but what about next year and beyond? Who's going to be throwing the ball in MIN?

Thoughts?

It depends on Moss...I think when he is healthy, happy and motivated he is the best WR in the NFL, even at his current age.

Dude torched Revis and then made a career highlight reel catch...but he has obviously lost a step and is washed up, right?

He'll be 34 in Feb, but he's also less than a season removed from putting up 83/1264/13 and being the #1 fantasy WR (standard scoring) Off to a slow start this year, but he's not nearly done. TO will be 37 in December this year..

It will depend if they give him an extension. He could be a free agent after this season otherwise.
Just read that he didn't agree to a new contract as part of the trade, so this is a hugely relevant factor. If Jackson is throwing the ball in MIN, this will affect his decision to stay and/or his on-field motivation level...

He torched a gimpy Revis and made a great catch for sure.BTW...what did he do the rest of that game with Revis out?I don't think he is washed up...but he is not the best WR in the NFL right now. Still very good and elite...but not the best right now.

assuming he resigns with the Vikes after this season...

hope giving up that 3rd was worth the rent Vikes.

If he doesn't get a contract extension in Minny within the next few days, I'd be worried about Moss's SHORT TERM value.

Brady overthrew him deep earlier in that game and he was out of the back of the endzone and bobbled the ball or could have been pushing 100 yds and 2 TDs before halftime.Revis got hurt on that play, but didn't grab his hammy until Moss got his 2nd foot down in the endzone, so it wasn't like he got hurt and fell down at the line of scrimmage and was wide open.

i dont see the vikings talking numbers with moss until after the season. im sure most of it is tied to what favre is gonna do first. Didn't favre already say this was his last year?

Could have been pushing....umm...ok.And Revis was limited by the Hammy going into that game.
2 catches of 40-50 yds and 2 TDs is pushing 100 yards, right?Do you even know which play I'm talking about? Moss bobbled it as he tried to keep his feet in bounds and had beat both defenders.

According to FBG when a deal was in the works it was said to be contingent upon Moss signing an extension with Minny. Can anyone confirm or deny if that happened?

No extension has happened and MIN decided they needed to get him right away and try to get an extension later.

I know what you are talking about...Im laughing at any coulda, woulda, shoulda kind of commentary. The fact remains...he had the one great catch and did little more the rest of the night.

I wouldn't assume he resigns. Not saying he won't, but I don't think either the team or his is assuming that. The Vikings made a win-now trade given that this is likely Favre's last season with them and therefore their last, best forseeable run at a Super Bowl and they're off to a less-than stellar start. Maybe he sticks around for the Tarvaris show - it's not like Culpepper was any great shakes but he could chuck it deep to Moss - or maybe he bails or maybe they bring in a better QB, but that's all up in the air right now and Moss gains nothing by signing an extension now rather than waiting and both testing the market and seeing what the Vikings do at QB.

None.

IMO, this is purely a rental for the Vikes. He won't be on the Vikes next year.

Going forward if you were the Vikes would you rather have Sidney Rice or Moss? I can't see both of them coming back it would cost way too much.

Rice, easily...right?

Like others have said, unless there is a contract worked out it's not even worth thinking about right now.

Explain to me why you couldn't just post it as a question in the big moss thread. What made you think, gee I think we need yet another Moss thread.

I think it's a good time to buy Moss. There's uncertainty about his change of circumstances short term (e.g. concerns about Favre having lost some of his competitiveness and lacking conditioning) and also long term about where he'll go after this season. Moss also wasn't lighting the world on fire in NE, and so there has to be concern about his age.

I think he's still a solid WR1 for another 2-4 seasons. His fitness is always excellent for example, as is TO's and we're seeing what TO can do at 37.

I think he's going to be somewhat undervalued in trade, particularly in dynasty.

Fair enough, but would you concede that he beat Revis deep twice (even if only one resulted in a catch) and still has his deep speed? According to some, he is so old he can barely reach full sprint anymore.

This: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index...howtopic=561200Genuinely interested in people's opinions, and would have gotten lost in the shuffle in the big thread.

Did you read Joe's comments. He said don't start stupid threads.

The Raiders had an old timer WR play for them between 2001-2004. He was 39 when he joined up in 01. He averaged something like 80 catches for 1100 4.5 Tds and made a trip to the SB with them.... :-)

What did he do last year against a healthy Revis?

Moss wasn't healthy last year.
In all fairness, how did Brady do in those games? The Jets D is good...did Brady light it up? I don't recall either way, but if the offense sputtered, it may not be that cut and dry.I mean, did Rolle and co. shut down Knox or did the pressure not allow Cutler to find WRs? It isn't always black and white.

I'm buying Randy Moss in any format. I don't think he's close to done yet. I especially like him in Dynasty if you can get a deal. I think he can play at a high level into his late 30s just like Jerry Rice. He trains as hard as anyone in the NFL and he has little history of injuries. He's played in 190 of 196 games in his career.

I think Favre is going to lean on Moss this year.

I personally think Moss would love to break Rice's all-time receiving TD record and he's only 46 away. That's 4 years (through age 36) of 12 TD seasons, which I think it doable if he stays healthy.

People are a little too worried about what will happen after Favre, but if Minn signs Moss to a long-term deal then they are going to make sure they have someone who can throw him the ball.
