Let's revisit what my intent with this tournament was:

We are voting on which one of the these director's movie you would want to see TODAY.  Of course past performance is part of the equation, but we should also be factoring in recent performance and what you think they will be doing in the future.  For the sake of the tournament, the ONLY information you have to decide between the two directors is something that reads "New Movie by _______".  There are no trailers, synopsis, or imdb page to look at.  I don't want it to be about theater experience either - what type of movies you usually pay for in the theater, etc..  I posted in one of the other threads this scenario: we all have the same home set up, so for the match pretend you get 2 blurays shipped to you in a blank case that reads "New movie by ______".  You have to pick one, and the other is destroyed MI style.

Wait but didn't Favreau beat Aronofsky at the buzzer?  It was tied last night, now he's up by 1.  Recount!  Hanging chads and dimples!

have Nolan play against both of them, he'll still win.

Just like I posted - I looked when I got home and Darren had a couple more votes.  I looked after and they were tied again.  It was the same with the Bigelow/Anderson match - I called it, looked a couple more times and it was tied once and Bigelow was ahead by one once.  Two good matchups.

If I'm reading the bracket correctly, we are headed toward a Spielberg-Tarantino semi-final.  That should be good.  KP, have you thought about a vote or timing threshold for the Final Four and Championship rounds?  Might add some intensity to the mix if there is a clock element of sorts.

Yep, I listed them as you would read them going top to bottom on the left side of the bracket.  Top 2 poll questions are from the NW region, bottom two are the SW region.

This was an odd vote for me.  I ended up going with all lower seeds in this one.

Spielberg vs. Payne:

I have liked everything that Payne has done so far, and in the end Spielberg is way too hit or miss for me now.  All the recent movies have been average at best, with some just terrible,  and I honestly don't think he has a great movie left in him.

Iñárritu vs. Tarantino:

Honestly, it was harder than I thought.  I am still holding out hope that I could get a whole movie as brilliant as the handful of scenes in Inglorious Basterds.  But, I have liked each movie after that less and less and to me it feels like it is the same stuff, different setting with him.  Iñárritu is hitting his peak and has made some of my favorite movies in the last decade or so.

Affleck vs. Coppola:

Dead horse here, but FFC shouldn't be getting votes.  Not saying that Affleck is amazing, and I am nervous about him just getting tied up with superhero stuff, but at least he is doing stuff.

Aronofsky vs. Nolan:

This was rough, and I can't believe I voted the way I did.  Love them both, but I guess for me it came down to Aronofsky having one dud in a row to Nolan's two for me.  Also, Aronofsky's movies usually make me think for days afterwards, and lately Nolan has been watch it and forget about it.

Tarantino-Iñárritu is match of the round IMO.

Don't be fooled by my Avatar - I did not vote for Coppola.  The only movie of his I have seen in the last 15 years was Twixt, which was underwhelming.  Meanwhile, I didn't realize how much I liked Affleck's work as a director until this contest began.

His movies have been great so far.  If there is one downfall to them, it's that he has acted in 2 of them, and he is not the strongest actor out there.

I voted Affleck, the dude makes pretty great movies, but thought about voting FFC because it would draw me in just to see what the hell he did.

Put a movie by each at the theater this weekend and you would be nuts to skip the FFC movie.
FFC in the last 20 years: Twixt, Tetro, Youth Without Youth, The Rainmaker, Jack.   How many of those did people see?  We are a long time removed from his glory days.

If Coppola put a movie out? hell yeah I'd be excited to see it. Afflack? depends.

w/ Spielberg, I don't feel like I need to see the movie to see the movie. he's great at what he does in good and bad ways (master craftsman, hacky over-emotional bs). I'm more interested in what Payne is doing that Steve.

Innagaddavida is putting out consistently good stuff, and progressing. I've lost interest in QT for similar reasons as Speels.

Arny vs Nolan was the toughest for me. I like both of them, but find some of their story-telling to be flawed/over-stuffed. I went with Arny on a whim, since his films still feel more distinct than Nolan's.

Looks like a fight between affleck and ffc.  Will keep these live until tonight since there is a close one in the east too.
