Moving a treadmill (335 pounds) (1 Viewer)

All:

Bought a used treadmill, a Precor, gym-quality one. The thing is a mutha, listed at 335 pounds (we would remove the vertical part, so maybe 300-320 pounds then). I am moving from a first-floor location, straight shot through the door into a truck - easy. Moving destination, though, is on the second floor, fairly standard staircase.

I figure I will need 4 guys for this job. Moving upstairs, at a minimum 2 guys will pretty much have all the weight.

Anyone have experience moving something of this weight, and have any advice?

I called a local mover, who quoted me $150 for the job. Is it worth it to you to do it that way?

Thanks

They rent dollies that are made for appliances with straps etc. That might be something to consider. I have moved a lot of weight over the years, with and without. They definitely make the job easier and safer. Plan it out though ahead of time. Make sure everything fits and corners can be cleared etc. That's a lot of weight to realize u need to quickly remove a door or slide that couch out of the way.

You sure you want to put in on the 2nd floor? We had one on the 2nd floor above the garage and the constant pounding caused some of the mounts for the garage door opener to loosen. Just something to think about.

Oh, and pay the $150 unless you have really good friends.

Whats below the 2nd floor where your moving this thing? Gonna be noisy when someones pounding away on that treadmill

ETA: I'd pay the 150

No question. Pay the 150 and let the pros do it.

Maybe call a piano mover. It might be a little cheaper because they are used to moving just one big thing at a time.

Damn...I have mine above the garage...

This...We initially put ours upstairs. The pounding was so annoying. It caused drywall nail pops all over the house, and a small crack in the taped corner in the kitchen. I couldn't stand to be downstairs when the wife was running.

We eventually got an elliptical for upstairs instead and my SIL's boyfriend helped me move the treadmill down two flights of stairs to the basement. By far the heaviest thing I've ever moved...Nearly crushed me at the bottom of the basement stairs. I'll never move it with less than 4 guys again, down, much less UP stairs.
