Muslims in NYC Planning to Build Second Mosque Near Ground Zero (1 Viewer)

interestingly rahm emanuel and other dem advisors were against the obama comments

http://www.nationalreview.com/corner/24405...h-daniel-foster

White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel has spent three days on the phone doing damage control with angry Democrats and urging them not to go public against the president, Democratic sources said.

Obama went ahead with the Ramadan dinner remarks even though his top political advisers had not reached a consensus on what he should do. Emanuel was one of the skeptics
Not really surprising. Emanuel knows how this plays politically even though I'm certain he agrees with Obama's comments.
 does he call you every night? Are you BFFs?

Heard on the radio that there is a large group of contractors in the New York area who have pledged not to work on this project and to boycott any company that does. They have been joined by all of the major unions. Let's see them try to build it without plumbers, electricians, hard hats. There's more than one way to skin a cat. I think patriotic Americans are going to prevent this building from ever being constructed.

Is it the hard hat manufacturers or just the distributors who have pledged not to work on the project?

There maybe some that raise a stink, but there will be plenty of contractors who will do the work. It's the American way

yeah.. they have every right to not accept the work, but in this economy, not many contractors are turning down multi-million dollar jobs..

Why? No one in this thread is arguing that we should change the constitution to prevent this. That's the liberal talking point.
:bs: What is a politician supposed to do about it then? Why was this made into a political issue? Why do righties want the President to weigh in on it?

The right has been throwing out talking points about changing the constitution for weeks now, and this "debate" fits into the narrative they are perpetuating; the Constitution needs altering.

Here's a few talking points for you, and they aren't from liberals:

Senators Call To Repeal 14th Amendment

http://cbs4.com/local/14th.amendment.repeal.2.1838076.html

GOP Lawmaker Thinks Islam is a Cult

http://www.care2.com/causes/politics/blog/...slam-is-a-cult/

The only amendment righties seem to like is the second.

Politics is a process by which groups of people make collective decisions (cut and pasted from wiki - sue me). What other kind of issue would you have preferred?

It helps not to be so vague in the fight of good vs. evil. You are either with them or against them. Right Obama?

Good vs. Evil? Are you saying if this Cultural Center is built, it will be the end of Western Civilization?

Probably Eastern civilization as well. I'd bet the Northern and Southern are pretty safe, though.

Politicians create or enforce government policy at the local, state or federal level. What policy should government officials be enforcing or creating in this case?

Why? All the libs were asking is that the government not overstep it's bounds (seemingly a right wing talking point) and disallow people their religious freedom. If it's true then this is win-win, well, except for all the hypocrites who loudly wanted us to betray our founding fathers' dream (pssst...that'll be most of you doing the loudest cheering)
Not just good posting, GREAT POSTING.
Why? No one in this thread is arguing that we should change the constitution to prevent this. That's the liberal talking point. Those against argue : While they have every legal right to build that structure there, it's insensitive and it would show some class and taste if they moved it somewhere else.

Libs : YOU WANT TO TAKE A GIANT DUMP ON THE CONSTITUTION!!!!! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Of course sometimes people hear different things. I would have had 0 problem with people standing up and saying that. What I seemed to be hearing more was: He is a terrorist, Islam is a hateful religion that breeds terrorism, and they are building it too close to where terrorists attack this country.

I think it was more about the religion and less about the location, and that is what I have a problem with.

So once again, all Muslims are evil. The acts if radical murderers are to be held against an entire religion and people who stand by the Founding Documents of America are "siding with evil". I can just picture Burton hosting a Larry the Cable Guy marathon with you, Mongol and Jonny coming out of it talking about all the good points he raised.

Of course they do. How's the weather in Tatooine this week?

23 pages?!? Are people still upset about this? So a group of people picketing the funerals of dead soldiers and implying those soldiers were gay is OK, but building a worship center near a terrorist attack location is bad? Have we cleared all the mosques out of Oklahoma City yet?

Churches near the Murrah building OK?
What do Churches have to do with Tim McVeigh and the OKC bombing. A piss poor analogy any way you look at it.

LOL, I bet. But come on with this manufactured outrage. Hell, I know someone personally who was killed in the North Tower and I hate the bastards that did it. But trying to equate all Muslims to those ##########s is both dumb and un-American. America was founded on the principles of freedom of religion and worship even if most of the country is Christian. Heck, why did the Pilgrims even come here? And spare me the "Other countries will laugh at the terrorists pulling one over on us". Really?? So when we talk about taking some ideas from foreign countries in our Judicial system, there's backlash at caring about what other countries think. But now suddenly we're worried what other countries think? WTF? I'll tell you what other countries think when they read about this "outrage": that we're afraid.

I have heard lots of people talk about this subject who never talk about politics. No one is equating all Muslims to those bastards, but this $100 million seems to have fallen from the sky. It could be a lot of people wanting to make a shrine to the terrorists for all we know. Now there is a Muslim mosque that is being built in the area replacing an old mosque that was there. Local money, local people looking for a place to worship is all cool. This Cordoba project just stinks to high hell, IMHO. Foreign dollars coming from unknown sources for a dubious purpose.

But what logically is the dubious purpose? Do you think they're going to fill it was explosives and run? If there is a serious, legitimate concern about security with this facility, then I agree to try to block it. But all I see is a political football where people in Washington are playing with the heartstrings of NYCers and other Americans. It's sad.

Well if you read their website their stated goals is to advance multiculturism and bridge ties between Muslims and the west. Well, this is the most divisive project imaginable. So they are either ####### liars or they are ####### stupid. Being able to raise $100 million, I kind of doubt they are ####### stupid.

IMHO, the purpose of this building is to build this building as a monument to those who took down the world trade center towers. Cordoba was a city in Spain which was conquered by Muslims. Calling their organization the Cordoba Initiative, kind of tips their hat what this is really all about. That is what Muslims have down throughout their history, they tear down western symbols and put up their own. History is repeating itself. Learn from it.
