My countdown list of one hit wonders- 1. Play That Funky Music (Wild Cherry) (1 Viewer)

The singer/writer of 4 non blondes wrote a couple of other big hits for other artists, get the party started and beautiful
Linda Perry. Who is married to Sara Gilbert of Roseanne/The Conners fame. And to show how you can end up going down a rabbit hole on the internet, I find out Sara Gilbert's sister is Melissa Gilbert of Little House On The Prairie fame. I never knew that. Back to the countdown!

Yeah, it might be the Pinot talking, but I'm digging this, too.  I have only a vague recollection of it.  It's kind of sweet.  And the guy on the far right in the pic on the link looks a bit like Jon Snow.
Looking at the pic on the link, I would never have guessed that group of guys created this song.

21. “My Sharona”- The Knack (1979)

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BR2JtsVumFA

Let’s get this out of the way first- yes “Good Girls Don’t” hit #11. And given the music nerds in here some of you guys no doubt remember it. I don’t and most of the world doesn’t. But everybody remembers “My Sharona”. In fact I would argue that, although this is not a one hit wonder under stringent rules, for a lot of people it could be the one hit wonder.

This is a great classic rock song. I love the opening bass line, and I absolutely love the guitar solo towards the end of the song- one of my favorite solos in all of rock music.
An example of things you don't find out until years later, the song was written about an underage (17) obsession/later girlfriend of the lead singer.

Might there be an appearance by a female vocalist singing about a speedy mode of transportation or a group from England that likes to jog late at night?

Or maybe a song about unnecessary flood control systems and lost desserts? (Unless that singer had an almost totally forgotten song that hit #14 on the Left-handed  Octogenarian Bee-keepers Chart, in which case it is ineligible).

My current number one is a brilliant song...

Speakin' of the Osmonds, Wild Horses  damn - Crazy Horses was the very 1st 45 I owned.

I used to run around the living room carpet on all fours - rearin' & buckin' - actin' like a wild crazy horse....

So - my mom bought me the record...

Not a true OHW, but very apt in Houston today.  The Astros had a walk-off walk win today.  You may wonder just what the #### that is.  Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, no outs, Altuve at bat.  The count is 3 and 0, and the pitcher walks Altuve.  The annoucer's comment was, "It's been 30 years since Major League, and Wild Thing is on the mound."

18. “I’d Love to Change the World”- Ten Years After (1971)

I ding this a little bit for homophobia (maybe?) . But otherwise it’s just an awesome rock song. Starts out with great acoustic guitar and then a soaring electric, and superb drumming.

This is Alvin Lee’s supreme moment. He was never able to repeat it. But during the time that this song is being played, Ten Years After reaches the pinnacle of British blues rock, matching the best of Led Zeppelin, the Stones, and all the rest...for a few minutes anyhow.

You stumped me with this one.  Swear I've never heard it before.

I believe you're forgetting this 70s OHW masterpiece.
Are you making fun of Hutch?

I really like that song. And yeah I considered it, along with these other love songs:

Sometimes When We Touch

The Goodbye Girl

It Might Be You (theme from Tootsie)

I couldn’t fit any of them in but I would have liked to. Hey I’m a sappy guy.

Love the song Mrs. R.!

Back - way back - this was the very 1st song I performed.

Yeah - wasn't good - but is it ever?

Seriously.  Not much.  No.
Well I’m surprised. But not shocked. If classic rock wasn’t in your wheelhouse  growing up then it’s possible you’ve never heard it. Despite its hit status it was a little too hard for the soft rock that everybody somehow absorbs by osmosis.

How do you like it?
