I'm still using it but because I put my goal as 2 pounds a week, it's only giving me like 1340 for calories. That's comical.
Well 2 pounds a week is 6000 below maintenance (In the MFP world anyways). That's 850 calories below maintenance a day. As a man and knowing nothing else I'm going to say your maint. level is in the 2200 range. Ergo 1340 = 2#/week in their model.

Going through the www.iifym.com pages helped me a lot too figuring out macros. I've read that you want a gram of protein per lean pound of your weight. But desired weight is probably just as good. Heck getting your protein over 125 is tough enough each day. How do you recommend getting that much protein without the accompanying carbs Culdeus?

Easy solution. There are other options, but this is the most simple and effective.

Still on the wagon here. Really digging the sync with the Fitbit. Hit up jbentley813 if you want to see a food diary of a guy that "weighs 165 and eats 250g of carbs a day" as noted by culdeus on the last page.

This video has been posted before in this thread. It's the best summation of macros vs. results you will find still today. I forget who posted it here initially.

It's a compilation of studies done by a Stanford liberal vegan hippie who finds that above all else a diet high in protein and saturated fat improve all metabolic markers. This is the way things are going. It took 40 years to get to the point where we are today so reversing the crisis won't be overnight.

Just to be clear since I started the whole weight watchers this discussion....I was only approaching it towards weight loss...not the whole macros get your body right thing. You guys know all that #### way better than me. Appreciate the discussion.

I'll get there eventually

As Culdeus noted earlier, you really only have to worry about macros when you want to get really lean. If you're 35lbs overweight and your goal is to get to a "normal" weight, just worry about calories in vs out.

Been watching this video off & on all day, pretty interesting stuff. Didn't realize the body doesn't have the capacity to store excess protein.

I've been on a 5 year weight loss quest. Was 238 5 years ago, and felt terrible. Was only 31, got dizzy and light-headed, felt a few chest pains, and started losing weight.

I've been up, down, up, down, up, down since then. I  food and am a natural :porked: . But over 5 years, I've slowly worked my way down to 206. Still..I should be 180, so I have 26 pounds to go.

My plan is to use MFP to lose 15 pounds as quickly as possible. Those last ten pounds aren't easy though. I have a buddy who is driving himself mad because he can't shed that last remaining body fat around his stomach. He looks SKINNY with clothes on, but he isn't satisfied with himself yet. I think losing those last ten pounds requires intense effort, hardly any carbs, and I think you need to accept weeks where you weight doesn't change, because it's likely a long process.

This has been my exact experience. Your body just doesn't want to let go of those last few pounds of obvious fat, it seems even more so as we age. I'm foolishly going for a no-alcohol February in the hopes of finally pushing off the last 5 - 10.

A five year plan?
Obviously not intended that way. But I can't stick on a diet for very long. So it's taken 5 years to slowly get myself in better shape with lifestyle changes and better decision making.

I suppose I should just man up and lose the remaining weight in 2 months but it's easier said than done.

5 years is a long ####### time to drop 32lbs, suck it up buttercup!

10lbs shouldn't be too hard, going off past history I'd say you should knock that out by about 2015 but the last 5lbs is the #####. That's when just dieting won't take it off (I suppose it would but it would be 2020). You need to get on some kind of cardio plan as well to cut those pounds off. Walk, run if you can, but you have to do something in addition to diet to burn calories.

Virtually all the research says resistance training over cardio for the end weight.

Stronglift 5x5 is the ideal endgame imo.

I think the concept of groups went away awhile back. Just try to find some people that use their FBG name and friend them, then you can see their friends and join them. Mine are 100% FBG. User: culdeustamu . Some of these guys have a following of 6s-7s that have quality after photos.

It works for me, but I'm already part of the group. Not sure how to join...
You were updating a ton in the last fatballguys thread. How are you doing?
 Fall/holidays were a complete failure. Back on the wagon now, though.
No worries, get back on the horse and you'll be looking splendid come summer!

Getting a haircut would be a good start.

After letting my hair grow for almost 3 months, I came home with this cut and my wife practically passed out.

Well... in her defense, short hair like that on a fat guy doesn't look as good as it does in that pic.

Yeah, no.

I've been using this for a couple of days. Tracking the calorie intake is interesting...and depressing. Things I've realized:

  • Hummus is not good for you. I does have protein and better for you than say a cheese dip, it has a lot of fat, carbs and calories.
  • Baby carrots are pretty much the perfect snack. You can eat 12 baby carrots and only consume 35 calories.
  • 0% Greek yogurt (Fage) is another winner. One cup is 130 calories but contains only 9 carbs and 23 grams of protein!
  • If you need a dip, Sabra cumber & dill dip (Greek style yogurt) offers low calories, some fat but equal carbs/protein
  • When eating pork, go for the loin. Dramatically less fat than the rest of the critter
Love to hear what everyone else has discovered

I'm in the lose 20-30 pounds of beer&burrito fat mode right now. Mfp has me set to around 1600 cal/day. It is easy to hit as long as I run or skip alcohol/fast food but I don't think I could live like this forever.

What daily calorie target are you fatasses at, do you raise that number once you hit your weight goal?

Pizza slices make great bikinis.

FP has me on 2300, but playing an hour of racquetball this morning jumped me up to 2900.
