She also regularly lets me use her phone for stuff and is open with her phone password, so she's never been the type to try to hide her phone from me. You could tell from the tone of the text messages that there wasn't more going on than what was displayed in the texts. She also said that I am welcome to look at her text messages anytime that I want because she had absolutely nothing to hide, although I don't intend to take her up on that.

On a different note though, it seems to me that she still does have an attachment to this guy. This is more her own personal issue to deal with rather than yours. But it would become your problem if this attachment manifests itself into something deeper. Understandably, it is difficult to let go especially given their history together. But I do believe that she will need learn how to let her past go so that she can focus on her present relationship.

Well, I said that they "occasionally" hung out, but I wasn't initially sure of the frequency because I never really asked too many questions about him. And I didn't know what the texts "every couple days or so" contained until just the other day when she let me read all of their texts. I think the friendship is definitely less close and involved than I thought it was when I made the original post. Sorry if the original post/thread title was somewhat misleading.

I agree that the ex-boyfriend having a key to her place is pretty weird. I certainly wouldn't give my ex a key to my house, nor would I ever expect her to give me one. I have stopped by my girlfriend's place during the day and walked in on the ex-boyfriend hanging out with the dog and doing laundry. I told her that wasn't cool and that he shouldn't be hanging out at her place and doing chores around the house. To some extent, I think him having a key makes the dog sharing issue easier, as he usually picks the dog up when she is at work and out doing something else. But I definitely think that him having a key is something that should probably stop at some point. Perhaps it would help wean him off his reliance on the dog.
