NAACP leader outed as white & doing Soul Man routine (1 Viewer)

There is no way you could look at a person's genetic information and determine what their race is.
I think we do this all the time. By sending some of Rachel Dolezal's saliva to 23andme.com for DNA sequencing, in fact, I think we could tell not only that she's broadly Caucasian (which is associated with ancestry from a large region including all of Europe as well as parts of Northern Africa, the Middle East, and even India), but much more specifically, that her ancestry is concentrated in what is now Sweden, Germany, and Czechoslovakia.
But all that shows is historical family geography, not race.

My belief is that we need to stop talking about race altogether but if we can't then more people should self-identify as another race to make a mockery of the whole thing.

How many times do I need to explain to you guys that there is no such thing as race.
I'd say there is such a thing as race.

It's indisputable that some human populations are more closely related to each other than they are to others. Greeks are more closely related to Basques than they are to Polynesians, for example.

There are a few ways to measure the genetic distance between populations. One measure is the Fixation Index. When a group of researchers computed indices for 42 different populations (using ~120 genetic markers), they found a tree structure in which one of the subtrees contained all the Europeans (Greeks, Basques, Lapps, etc.) plus samples from Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Iran where the maximum genetic distance between populations within the subtree was 0.05 while the minimum genetic distance from any population within that subtree to the node of any other subtree was 0.12. That is to say, it was an obvious cluster of its own. And it corresponded pretty much exactly to what people had already referred to as the Caucasoid race. In other words, Caucasoids are an actual thing.

You get generally the same result with Negroids and Mongoloids.

Not every population (and certainly not every individual) is located within a specific racial cluster. And not everyone's concept of race matches the biological clustering. (A random guy on the street might look at an Australian Aborigine and incorrectly identify him as a Negro, for example.) Nonetheless, there are genetic clusters that correspond pretty well to what people commonly refer to as races.
So in your opinion the fact that you can identify minor DNA variations between groups makes them different races?
I don't understand the question.

TLdr A man who self identified as black finds that he's 28% Asian and 7 % white

His white girlfriend is 2 % African...
On the genealogy show 'Finding Your Roots', 'black' actress Gloria Reuben found out that she was only like 30% African.
don't native Americans only need to be 1/16 to qualify for whatever it is they qualify for?I'm pretty sure that's the rule...all you need is a great-great grandparent to be full-blood.

Really? If that's the case my son is in. Gonna check on that tomorrow.

The Cherokees do not require any specific percentage. You just have to be able to prove you are a descendant of a citizen who was on the Dawes Rolls which was a Federal census of the Tribe taken in the Indian Territory just prior to the time it became Oklahoma in 1907.

The whole "self-identify" thing could be an interesting discussion, but this thread should really be about this ridiculous woman and her stupid lies. I haven't watched the full Lauer interview, but from what I gather, this is pretty much her story:

- She began to self-identify as black around age 5. As she put it, she used the brown crayon to do self-portraits as opposed to the peach,. I am not making this up.

- At some point in her adult life, she met some black reverend guy, and went around introducing him as her dad. When Lauer asked her about this, she said they met, immediately shared an "intimate connection, like family," and she now refers to him as her dad. "Any many can be a father, not any man can be a dad." She's standing by this one, still calls him dad (a person she didn't meet until she was a fully grown adult).

- When Lauer asked her when she started deceiving people, she blamed it on the media. Some articles were written about her. First, calling her "transracial." Then the next one referred to her as biracial, and finally another referred to her as black. She didn't point out that this was an error because "it's more complex than simply saying true/false I'm black or white."

- Despite self-identifying as black since age 5, she sued a school in 2002 for discriminating against her...for being white.

- Her only explanation as to why she looks pretty dark now when she used to look as white as the entire case of Full House is that she "certainly doesn't avoid the sun." Keep in mind she lives in ####### Spokane, Washington. Pretty sure it rains 457 days a year there.

- She has also described her upbringing as difficult saying she was born in a teepee (yes, a ####### teepee) and had to hunt with a bow and arrow for food. Again, not making this up. Her parents did an interview and were asked about this, the guy points to a room in the house and was like "She was born in that room."

This is a story about a crazy person.
Actually, on average Spokane gets more inches of snowfall every year than it does rainfall. It lies on the eastern side of the Cascade Range which blocks most of the moisture coming off of the Pacific Ocean. Most of central and eastern Washington state experience near desert conditions.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you said otherwise. The woman is cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.

This lady is all kinds of crazy:

Asked by Savannah Guthrie whether she understands why people would be confused about her heritage, given that her parents are white, Dolezal said, “I can understand that. But again, up to this point, I know who raised me. I haven’t had a DNA test. There’s been no biological proof that Larry and Ruthanne are my biological parents.”

Reminded by Guthrie that there’s a birth certificate listing Larry and Ruthanne as her parents, Dolezal responded, “I’m not necessarily saying that I can prove they’re not. But I don’t know that I can actually prove they are. I mean, the birth certificate is issued a month and a half after I’m born. And certainly there were no medical witnesses to my birth.”

One more piece to this:

Dolezal later questioned who her birth parents really are, telling Savannah Guthrie, “I haven’t had a DNA test.”

“There’s been no biological proof that Larry and Ruthanne are my biological parents,” Dolezal said. She later added, “I’m not necessarily saying that I can prove they’re not, but don’t know that I can actually prove they are.”

Dolezal also said that there were “no medical witnesses to my birth” and said she was born “in the woods.”

A good liar knows to never admit defeat. Even if the overwhelming evidence proves that you are wrong or lying. Because the more you deny it, the more time you give to others to start to believe your crap.

Every single piece of evidence can be disputed, no matter how air tight it seems.

Male identifies as a female, lauded as a hero.

White chick identifies as a black chick and is crucified.

This country is full of hypocritical bull #### artists.
Honest question - at the "biological" level is there more of a difference between black and white, or between male and female?

So then affirmative action totally out the window?

Black vs. White: 8 - 5 = 3

Male vs. Female: 6 - 0 = 6

There's a greater difference between male and female if by "biological" you meant average penis length in inches.

Edit: Wait, I guess Bruce bumps that female average up to .0000001.

Or two great-great-great-grandparents (who weren't married, as obviously their child, your great-great-grandparent). Or one great-great-great grandparent and two great-great-great-great grandparents. If you take this route back a few thousand more generations, then wouldn't we all qualify?

The issue is then she is nuking all options since this is playing out on a large stage. When she was shown a picture of her parents, she ID'd her father and now is pulling a 180 on that statement.

This will not end well.

I agree that it won't end well. But if you are going to lie, you might as well see it through. Once she admits to something, she will be seen a lot worse than she is now. At least now, she has some crazy people on her side defending her. Once she admits she was wrong and that she lied, everyone is against her.

The DNA test is another burned bridge. She won't consent to one and worded it juuuuust enough to create an exit when this completely falls apart. This is a :tfp: that will pile up since she is going alone w/o the help of a PR/Communications/Crisis team.

This is sad, she clearly needs alot of counseling and help and people are straight up bullying her. I could easily see her as a suicide the way she's being treated.

The people interviewing her seem a little suicidal at the end due to her insane answers. If she needs help, I hope she gets it.

Nobody's gonna get me on another rap
So look at me now I'm just makin' my play
Don't try to push your luck just get out of my way

Cause I'm back
Yes I'm back
Well I'm back
Yes I'm back
Well I'm back back
Well I'm back in black
Yes I'm back in black
